Spider-Man: Far from Home5
Jul 5, 2019
Spider-Man Far From Home is an extremely predictable movie from start to finish. Anyone familiar with the comics or spider-man animated series from the 90s could see through the story right from the trailer. The movie is more of a leaping off point for the next phase of the MCU. While the movie was fun and heart felt at times, the story fails to really deliver.

I know my review is late to the party, but this movie wasn't worth seeing in theaters. It does nothing the first movie didn't. Plus it shows the people in this fictional universe have learned nothing. After the first movie after nearly all their Jaegars were destroyed they decide that these things are suitable to solve their problem should it arise again. There is no logic or intelligence in this. Especially considering they mention in the first movie that the ones they have been seeing are small low level ones. Fast forward to the second and again the world is in danger because or lazy writing. Given all the knowledge on our weapons the director decides swords are the most viable means to defeat these creatures. Not massive guns shooting hypersonic rounds, but swords, whips, and a mace. All of which prove ineffective by the end of the movie. The projectile weapons they do have are largely ineffective. The only time a Jaegar is effective is when its used like a missle. How about they just use actual missles?!?! Oh that would make way too much sense. Terrible movie.

This movie is pleasing to fans of the comics and the MCU. It pays homage to the 21 films that came before it with great continuity. Some heroes get a satisfying ending while others get tragic ones. In the end it seems like Marvel did everything right while empowering the heroes who remain. The final battle scene is a sight to be seen. Just when it seems like all hope is lost the tide turns. This movie forever changes the landscape of the MCU. Its tough to say if it will ever reach these heights again, but the work that was done to get here and this movie are unprecedented. For me it was worth the investment and the payoff was huge.

I absolutely loved this movie. The movie has many call backs in the movie to earlier scenes and maintains its tone throughout. Gosling and Crowe are an odd couple that works and well at that. They both have their moments to shine and do a great job. The comedy is on point and the movie feels like its in the 70s. Its one thing to choose a time frame, but its another to nail it and they did. Personally I hope they make a second one and these two get to find more trouble. Also Goslings daughter in the film did a fantastic job. She had strong presence in her scenes and really conveyed the witty wise cracking daughter of the sleazy detective.

I haven't seen other reviews of this movie and I'm obviously late to the party on writing a review, but having just watched it on HBO I have to say I enjoyed the movie. The story was fun and made sense. It was well cast for the bigger roles. The weakest acting in the movie came from the actor who played Beck in the movie, but he didn't do a poor enough job to ruin it. I found the pacing to be good and no scene dragged on excessively. I will acknowledge that the gods transforming into robots was a bit odd and the fact that Sett could upgrade himself with parts from other gods was different. Having said that its all based on mythology and since its all fiction I accepted what they did and the liberties they took. My only problem with the movie is the final fight. It was short and didn't live up to the epic scale of the movie. Despite that I enjoyed the movie. It reminded me of movies from the 80s and 90s which for me is nostalgia. Its not a bad movie as many say.
