Lauberfen

An immediate classic and truly great film both for the vampire genre and in general. Almost nothing to fault, but I suppose it's fundamentally low key and may depend on watching in the right mood.

Matches the tone, style and philosophical reflections of the original, while clearly advancing the plot, rather than attempting a re-boot. Moves into a more clearly dystopia setting, which is a plus in my book. Sound track has clear similarities to Arrival, but ends up a little aggressive; both uncomfortably loud at points and some too quiet dialogue. Demands a second viewing.

With a simple but deep plot, back-to basics action and beautiful cinematography, this is probably the best Bond so far. Daniel Craig continues to present a gritty, bruised and human bond, Javier Bardem offers a sinister and intimidating adversary and Judi Dench is on top form calling the shots and making painful decisions. While the audience may have been left wanting more details from the plot and back story, the simplicity allowed the mood and character of the film to come through.
