Lady Bird

Hands down, one of the best films of the year. Lady bird is a fearless, original, bittersweet, and intricate coming of age story between a girl and her mother. Slammed to the brim with meaningful moments, heartfelt emotion, and absolutely breathtaking acting, "Lady Bird", is a flawless film, and absolutely astonishing first film from talented actor-director Greta Gerwig.

The Book of Henry

One of the most abysmal, manipulative, muddle, misguided, disgusting piece of dwindled garbage of all time. Spun together with uneven, terrible atmosphere, and plastic, toy performances, The Book of Henry is truly terrible.

A Dog's Purpose

An honestly pathetic attempt at a film, praying on the most basic layers of human emotions to create a "lovable puppy doggy" movie. If you look at this film, though it might have made you cry, it is honestly just a stale, fake, family-flick with gimmicky cliched diolague and deppresingly heartless movie.

Eighth Grade

Astoundingly grounded, and painfully realistic are the two phrases in which sum up this film perfectly. Out of every horror film that I've watched, every jumpscare I've flinched, and every bloodspill I've cringed, this is the film that I've looked away the most. There's almost a beauty in an aspiring director who has made, by just using the fear-inducing forces of reality to make us cringe, worry, and just wish to walk out the most. The feeling of being trapped in a harsh reality is so strong, and so crippling, that when Eighth Grade finally gives you some time to breathe, it feels heaven-sent. With an astonishing breakthrough from writer director Bo Burnham, and a flawless, realistic depiction of fear, anxiety, and doubt that nearly everyone is forced to endure at the specified time period, Eighth grade is surely one of, if not the best film of the year.

Ouija: Origin of Evil

This is real horror, people. This is the real deal. This isn't just your spooky jumpscare flick, no, this film is actual horror. Directed by Mike Flanagan, Ouija: Origin of Evil is an outstanding horror film with an absolutely flawless plot, amazing performances, and solid dark, creepy atmosphere. Mike Flanagan knows how to cause fear, from real, scary things like insanity, grief, death, instead of those little jumpscare flicks that so called "horror fans" hold so close to heart. Because of this, he is my personal favorite horror director to this day, and I will stand by that opinion any day. This film is a true depiction of his talent.

The Belko Experiment

Well... as it turns out, The Belko Experiment isn't quite as abysmal as I had previously thought. Does that make it an oustanding film? No... not by any means. It is actually far from that. The idea, in general, is hugely flawed, and while the gore can be quite stylish (particularly in the 30-60 kill range), that can't make up for the lackluster plot, subpar performances, and the countless plot holes. Pros: Like I had mentioned before, the violence can be stylish... not much of it is... but it had potential. Cons: The beggining point of the film is painfully slow, and meaningless, showing the characters in the most plastic, inhuman attempts at acting realisticly. While the enjoyment picks up, after some time, the beggining of this film was clumsily created, and honestly, sort of ruins the experience of some of the later parts. The plot seems scattered... like, the had no idea what to do with the film, and so they just killed random people for no reason at no specific time... because... they wanted to fill up the run time with gore? While there were a few organized scenes and ideas, the rest of the film is either pathetic attempts at character drvelopments, or groggy, boring, and scattered kills. The character were so flimsy and forgettable, that you will likely brush them off about 2 minutes after the credits end. This film was marketed as some sort of... political commentary maybe? You can tell that it's what it wanted/tried to be. It tried to be an intelligent, thought provoking idea with a moral, but the film, really, is just a slasher in a building. It's kind of like the later purge films, such as Election Year, but more clumsily made. Well, In conclusion, this movie is nothing special, despite what it tries to be, it's just another mindless slasher with a messy plot.

The 5th Wave

A complete rip-off "dystopian thriller" type film, in which fails in every way possible. With ugly, underwhelming special effects, extremely limp acting and diolague, paired with a story that seems all too familiar, The 5th Wave is a failure on all levels on cinema.
