Dune: Part Two

Well now, I finally decided to watch part 2. 2 hours and 40 minutes of the actor known as Z frowning continuously and doing storm-offs. The fact that the ending omits the statement Atrides makes where he informs the ex-emperor's daughter that she will not share his bed or bear his children, just so Z can do yet another storm-off. People liked Roger Moore and his reputation for 'eyebrow acting', I cannot say the same for Z. It is also thoroughly disappointing that most of the dialogue consists of whispering. WHAT IS IT WITH MODERN MOVIE-MAKING? Two people are alone in a desert and are whispering to one another! It makes no sense at all. It also makes no sense (as it should be impossible) for two people, riding two separate worms - which are apparently making a lot of noise - to be able to call to one another and be heard. Terrible outing for a story I have read several times and watched various visual offerings of. I gave it a 3 for the effects but, in my opinion, it is all hair and eyebrows and no substance.

I like Tom H as Spider-Man. He delivers a credible performance. I enjoyed the multiverse aspect of bring back the previous flowers. (Golden Aura) A princess stands here admiring the previous Spideys and villains: a great touch. My only (logical) gripe: "Make the world forget I am Spider-Man" ...and the world forgets that Peter Parker also exists. Despite any academic history. Despite any employment history. The premise of disassociation twixt Spider-Man and Peter Parker failed completely and ruined the logic of the entire plot.

Criticism of the 1984 version may be well-founded. However, the one fact from that version is: a complete story! The flavour of hollyw*nk for making sequels and sub-parts is pathetic! As for this outing, followed the book for the most part. Disliked the whispery vocal delivery Why whisper in the frikkin desert?? What purpose does it serve? I dislike Timothy Hairdo in this movie. I dislike Z in EVERY movie, I dislike her as an actress and as a person. She rides rough-shod over Tom H which does not endear me to her at all!

I came to this with preconceptions in regard to the previous offering. I am glad I was proved wrong. To say this is a 'remake' is definitely an injustice. The 1947 version had Danny Kaye singing making those faces (make a 'face' and all of a sudden you are an American 'comedian'), and singing happy-go-lucky tunes. I would suggest this version was more akin to something David Lean might offer in terms of cinematography: including the landscape as one of the movie's central characters. For me, the story held up well enough on it's own without being too sugary. What I took from it was that this story could apply to most people who, on a whim, step away from their comfortable lives and end up doing something they would consider a 'leap into the unknown'. The boarding scene along the empty road struck a chord with me; heading to a destination one hasn't been to, or even heard of, following a tiny thread that leads to...? I would consider it among Mr. Stiller's best work.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I can understand why critics disliked it: they wouldn't know satire if it bit them on the arse, or was delivered by a mobile app and bit them on the arse. I found it very well done, well-delivered, and exactly on point as a depiction of a modern society whose only concern is public opinion of themselves. I definitely recommend it to British audiences as we tend to get the subtlety of the humour.

Can't say I am a fan of the teen Zen female. Does she not have a last name? I don't particularly enjoy her acting either. Ditch the techno-suit and bring back what made Spider-Man an enjoyable character. Let's see: teens go to Washington in movie 1 and Spidey appears. Teens go to Europe and Spidey appears. Unless one is a complete moron - which these teens appear to be - it is not difficult to assume that one of them (not the fat ones) is actually Spider-Man. Taking that logic further, the missing one must be Spider-Man. This does not bode well for future Spider movies.

Mr. Downey Jr. (is one still a junior when senior has expired?) gives a passable performance but, in effect, is playing Mr. Downey Jr. in a metal suit. I liked evil Lebowski. I was extremely disappointed by the ending. Does anyone remember the days when a superhero's identity was a secret? Now, of course, the world is populated by people whose every waking moment is posted online to all and sundry. Thus, they despise secrets. Superhero movies all must, positively, out of necessity have a secondary character who is aware of the hero's real identity. For this reason I gave it a lower score. Otherwise, entertaining.
