Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are great, as always, but there's something odd about this movie. I thought the romance was very hit and miss and although the stunts were awesome it did pose the same issue of how a mortal person could withstand so many falls, punches, etc, and still be fine. He's not a superhero. I felt this movie didn't quite know what it wanted to be; as for an action comedy there basically weren't any laughs. There was also a lot of meta gags going on which will be great for industry insiders but felt a bit self-indulgent for regular cinema goers like the rest of us. Hannah Waddingham stole every scene she was in. Nice to see a cameo by Lee Majors and Heather Thomas. Shame they couldn't give Heather a line to say.

A cross between "The Quiet place" and "The happening". Bullock puts in a serviceable performance. The flashbacks are the best part, shame we never get any information about why everything is happening and what the entities actually are. Ending is a bit low key.

3 sailors spend 24 hours in New York on leave and they all fall in love... as you do! A great pairing of Sinatra and Gene Kelly (and the other one) and a standout dance number from Ann Miller. I particularly enjoyed the on location filming in New York, which was quite unusual for the time. This movie is a gem.

Sinatra and Brando are both terribly miscast in their roles, and the movie is very "of its time", eg. it's all fine for Brando's character to take out the lady from the Salvation Army for a bet and get her drunk. Also it's very obvious everything is filmed on a set. However, at the end of the day the amazing songs lift everything up.

This was OK. It's basically just your average cosy crime movie, the kind that clogs up the viewing schedules on a Sunday night in the UK. Except that it has a stellar cast. Unfortunately, with the exception of Helen Mirren, they are all phoning it in.

This is probably the dumbest movie I've seen in a long time. It's so dumb it makes "independence day" look like "2001: A space odyssey". Made on a budget of $150, it's basically ice cube in front of his computer fighting off an alien invasion whilst looking after his grown up children at the same time (who obviously take precedence over saving the world). The effects are from a PS2 era video game. Everything happens at a breakneck pace. Messages are responded to the moment they are sent. The earth is fighting the aliens, winning, then losing, then winning again. All in the space of a few minutes with the news reports updating in few minutes as well. Ice Cube is like the protagonist in the "watch dogs" video game and had access to pretty much every single device in the world from his office. Phones, cars, drones. Fridges. The martian fighting machines are ripped off from Spielberg's war of the worlds movie from 2005. The whole thing is quite silly and ridiculous. The amazon product placement is a bit obvious, but I don't see people complaining when people use apple, microsoft, google, etc, in movies. It's such a large company it's more ridiculous to pretend it doesn't exist. However, as long as you take the film for what it is then you might find yourself enjoying it. Sometimes it can be a lot more enjoyable getting some cheap fast food delivered than going to a restaurant and eating a fancy meal that costs a day's wages. I watched "alien earth" recently and that was just as dumb and not nearly as enjoyable (I gave up after three episodes). With war of the worlds it was dumb and a lot of fun and didn't take up too much of my time. I enjoyed it immensely.

Heard lots of great things about this movie but overall I found it overrated. It starts off as a found footage movie about alien contact then turns into a heavy handed comment on segregation. The lead character starts off as a dork, a real joke character, yet by the end he has turned into Rambo. Plot was all over the place and lacked focus.

The first movie was great, but this is very much "more of the same". The new emotions are more annoying than funny, and the plot doesn't make very much sense 90% of the time, with events happening randomly. The real life segment is also pretty dull. When we had the "puberty" alarm I was expecting first love, but I expect they are saving that for the third movie. Not as good as the first one.

Nicely done character based drama that pulls at the heartstrings. If you enjoy watching people getting their limbs hacked off for two hours then this might be the film for you. However, the simplistic plot is drawn out far too long, and I didn't like the fact that the vendetta that is the core of the film, which accounts for so many deaths and maybe even the history of China itself, is based on a simple misunderstanding. The main villain of the film also gets off scot free.

About the same as the first movie. The two main leads are poor and have no chemistry. Timothy Chalamet is too sensitive and slight to be convincing as the leader of a holy jihad; he looks as though he'd sooner fall over in a stiff breeze than be leading troops into battle. Zendaya basically wears the same sulky expression she had in the first movie. By far the best performances in this movie are from Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha and Léa Seydoux as Lady Fenring. They steal every scene they are in and have more charisma than anyone else. As you would expect from Denis Villeneuve the special effects (in particular the impression of scale) are the real standouts. But, as with all his other movies, there is far too much gazing enigmatically into the middle distance and the pacing is all over the place. The first third of the movie is slow and ponderous, whilst the last third is rushed. There's also a lot he left from the book from such a long two-part adaptation. We saw little of Thufir Hawat and Wellington Yueh and nothing of the guild navigators. The movie also ends on a lame cliffhanger with no proper resolution. Overall I have to say I still prefer the David Lynch adaptation of the source material.

As with all Wes Anderson movies it was beautifully shot, with great attention to detail and very quirky. However I feel this is far from his best work. A great cast, but the plot was very cringe and awkward in some places. The whole story arc with the 13 year old child and the babysitter was very uncomfortable, particularly him practically stalking and harassing her and ending the movie being given a stack of nude photos for his trouble. Why was she so besotted with his father anyway? I feel they should have removed this part of the story completely and spent more time on the relationship between Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. Some parts were very funny, but overall very hit and miss.

Excellent production detailing the life of poet Siegfried Sassoon, played brilliantly by Jack Lowden. We are taken from the early days of the first world war to his late years, played by Peter Capaldi. Performances are excellent throughout. The only area I think could have improved the movie was if we had had a couple of flashback sequences from Sassoon's life in the trenches. The horror of the first world war is referenced throughout, and although I commend the use of actual footage from the time, I feel it would have been better to have included scenes of Sassoon's wartime experiences first hand. Without these I never felt the weight of the war as the poet would have done to determine his pacifist actions. Show, not tell.

Some laugh out loud funny moments are undermined and largely ruined by an anti-men bias which really ramps up during the final third of the movie. Ryan Gosling is the stand out as Ken, and his Kendom (a patriarchal alternative to Barbie-land) is by far the funniest and best part of the film. There's also a largely pointless story arc including Will Ferrell. I think if the movie had ended with the Barbies and Kens agreeing to form a shared society, rather than barbie wanting to become a human being (along with 20 minutes of cod philosophy with the inventor), this would have been a much better film. You also get a big speech by one of the characters on why life can be a struggle for women (which could apply equally to any person based on their race, sexuality, age, etc, irrespective of gender). It's also quite adult in its themes and language, so don't take your children along. Overall although I enjoyed watching this I also feel it's a big missed opportunity. If this had been released 20 years ago, before the age of woke virtue-signalling, I can see it would have been a much better movie.

Loved the first ant man film, but this third installment was more like a CGI-heavy Star Wars knockoff. Too loud and overblown, too many characters - ant man and the wasp seem to play supporting roles to Michelle Pfeiffer's character. An out of place cameo by Bill Murray. Main cast are ok but I didn't like the whiny gen-z daughter. I miss the lightness of touch and hilarious tiny toy fights of the first movie.
