Excellent story, and even if the gameplay is slow-paced and based on simple travels, the atmosphere is here. I enjoy the calm game a lot more than I maybe should, but every hour spent is fantastic.

While I can't fathom to place this game higher than its predecessor, it still is an excellent game. The plot is strenghtened, the gameplay expanded and the new source engine? A marvel. We simply took what was good in the first game and increased its potential. I have stated Half-Life as the ancestor of FPSs; this is his rightful son. We now wish to have a sequel, but to maintain such a level of quality, the VALVe team sure must be stressed out. I'm still impatient to know what VALVe has up its sleeve for us.

Half-Life 1 is still what we thought it was: the best game of the century. Nothing may surpass the ingenuity, the genius of VALVe while making that game. The gameplay is revolutionary, the map design is wonderful, the split between puzzle and fight is excellent to ensure a comfortable playthrough. There is no way you may think this is a FPS; this is the ancestor of modern ones. Doom unraveled a new genre, Half-Life perfected it. It made it. This is art, in all of its forms. I can't simply say else.

A 0 might seem peculiar to players who encountered the rare, rare case where the game works fine. But let's say it does; stop selling us products you made for consoles. You have to make something for PC players that is not only porting the game, but adapting the gameplay! Why is there on earth XBox360 buttons prompts in the menu!? "Press B to open"? Who are you kidding? I'd really like if you could provide us the same experience as everyone else; you know, since we're paying, too. This is a broken game in all its glory, with so many flaws I wonder how the pro reviewer played.
