A quirky game with some really nice art. It has an interesting take on turn based combat that i found fairly enjoyable, kind of like Earthbound but your attacks are performed during little guitar hero style rhythm games. I almost wish it was a straight up rhythm game though, unfortunately there are sections outside of combat where you have to avoid map hazards and these sections get old fast. your character is so slow and clunky and they will snag on every single edge they possibly can. Also the game absolutely loves making you backtrack so get used to those map hazards. Still would recommend giving it a go. It throws at lot of stuff at the wall and some of it sticks better than others, but it has some neat ideas that make it worth a look.

Beautiful pixel art and decent music. The combat is fine, it has an old school appeal to me. But, the story and cutscenes are maddenly boring and long.

Fantastic art style. If you liked Blasphemous this is worth a shot. However I had issues with softlocking AND hard crashing. There were a couple of times I got compeltely lost and had no idea what to do next. The last boss is misery.

Just finished my first playthrough. Took my time, got 100% of upgrades and secrets (also hundreds of deaths). Lets be honest, what do you really expect from a game baring such a resemblance to games like ninja gaiden? A stern challenge is a given. The real question is it worth the time to learn and i really think it is. While I did sigh a few times in frustration I mostly loved it; the great visuals, tight controls and exceptional music kept me wanting to boot up the game time and again. However, I do think the game becomes FAR more enjoyable when the player finally gets their full ensemble of abilities.

The crashing has to be addressed, its ridiculous. navigating the menus is an endurance test for your patience. Sometimes the cursor just seems to disappear - try navigating the menu looking for a suture kit as your party members bleed to death since there's seemingly no pause. That said - I'm powering through generally enjoying the game despite the problems - but, couldnt recommend at the moment unless you have serious patience.

Xeno Crisis boasts a fantastic soundtrack, fast gameplay and waves upon waves of enemies to kill - all with an authentic Sega Mega Drive feel. The game's difficulty might seem overwhelming at first, but with practice it is manageable - I only wish you didn't have to 1CC the game to fight the final boss (something I still haven't managed). Having to plow through the lengthy final stage only to hit with a sudden Game Over screen is pretty unsatisfying,

It's hard to match the cathartic enjoyment that Carrion provides. It really nails the atmosphere and the game does a good job of balancing the feeling of being powerful while still providing a decent challenge. My only real criticism is that some sort of map system would've been nice as there were a few occasions where I found myself floundering around for a while.

Enter the Gungeon10
May 11, 2020
*Updated 11/05/2020 A game with a lot of potential (and still is), Looks great and is beautifully animated, there are some great enemy designs (particularly the bosses) and some not so great enemy designs. I always thought to myself it'd be great to have a BOI with guns, but without the synergies it doesn't make for very interesting or unique builds - In BOI, a poor run could still be enjoyable simply because of how drastically a combination of items could force you to alter your play style. Here, it feels like you need to get lucky just to have a fun experience. It is brutally stingy with money and health which is fair enough, but it does mean that more often than not a 20 minute run can dissolve in a few seconds. Honestly though, one of the most irksome things for me about the game is that I think the first stage is just too big. "That's ridiculous" you say. Well, maybe I'm just a crazy bastard, but hear me out. In a procedurally generated game such as this - it takes too long for a run to take shape and start feeling unique. For me it seems like you spend way too long with the default weapons and it can make starting a new run tedious, especially when the game hands you a dud weapon to fight the first boss with. It's hard not walk away from each game feeling frustrated. In it's current form I think this is a good title marred by a couple of **** flaws and maybe in the future this will be a 10/10 game. ----------------------------- Finally went back to Enter the Gungeon after a few years, most (if not all) of the issues I brought up in my original review have been addressed. The game has tonnes of synergies, it's much more fairly balanced and generally it's just a lot more fun to play. I've pumped a lot of time into it this time, unlocked all characters and defeated every boss (still can't win the boxing match). All in all the game is genuinely a 10/10 now. Good stuff.

Grew up with the SOR series, still regularily play the originals. First impressions after completing SOR4 Story Mode on Normal. Overall it's the best I could've hoped for (in so far as there was plenty of potential for this to be a disaster). Wasn't hugely into the art style after seeing trailers, but seeing it in person the stages are very detailed and animations are high quality. I'm sold in that regard. Soundtrack is obviously important in any SOR game, again it's pretty decent though you can kinda tell which tracks Yuzo Koshiro did and didn't work on. You can listen to rhe 'retro' soundtrack though which is a nice feature, but unfortunately they're very poor quality in terms mixing, the retro tracks sound really muddy. Gameplay impressions, seems to have a fairly high skill ceiling. Lots of different playable characters with unique styles of playing. Haven't tried any of the 'original' characters yet so I think a lot of the replay value will come from this. Finally, it's hard to judge as I may not fully understand their gimmicks, but some of the bosses are a real pain in the ass. Lots of unstoppable invincible/armoured moves and a lot of 2 against 1 situations that are pretty painful (single player obviously). I'm not sure yet how I'd rate this in comparison to the original games, but each of the originals have their own little flaws too and I still spent 15+yrs playing them anyway so I'm still looking forward to going back and playing through it again and trying to figure out strategies for the bosses. A worthy sequel.

I always loved the Dead Rising series, but it always had some frustrating design flaws that marred the overall experience and made it hard for me to recommend to all. From unfair, tedious boss battles to a frustrating save system all of that seems to have taken on board and I think unshackled the game from it's well-meaning, but clumsy predecessors.

I already have all these games on multiple consoles. There's no need to review the actual games, everyone knows they're good and obviously I bought this because I love the games, but the biggest problem for the MK games has always been the AI. Which can be very cheap, so I just wanted to play these games online. Too bad I they don't let you try the multiplayer in the trial because I have been attempting in vain over the past week to find ONE game online. The only reason I bought the thing and I've been ripped off for 800 ms points because the multiplayer just doesn't work. I have no connection issues in any other game (bar, oddly enough, Mortal Kombat 9) so there's no excuse. Also the menus - why can't you view the moves list between rounds ? It blocks out the menu which is annoying if you want to remind yourself how to do a particular fatality and why don't they display the controls relative to the side of the screen your on? I know that I'm complaining about something pretty trivial, but the fact is this on the Xbox 360 - this should be the best version of these games by far and its not.

It doesn't do anything that new. Feeling like an uncomfortable blend between the familiar elements of COD and Battlefield. There's really not enough here to recommend it. The campaign is way too short and a lot of the multiplayer maps are very similar. The fighting itself is actually pretty decent, but spawn camping with vehicles is a major problem on some maps and with games that do the same things better, why would you honestly bother?

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine10

A really solid representation of the Warhammer 40k universe. You could argue its a GOW clone and you'd be right cause it is pretty much. But, in terms of aesthetics this game is spot on. The graphics and sound are great. The game-play is a mixed bag on-line, its unbalanced, but generally a lot of funny and pretty satisfying in single-player. I would advise to buy if you love warhammer, buy second hand if you like Warhammer, rent if you like Gears.

I thought this game was excellent. Really well polished and I was surprised how well the Assassin Brotherhood game mechanic worked. The only problem I had was the game has issues with the controls, when you're trying to gently push a person and end up dragging a guard of his horse it can be very frustrating.

You cannot really think of this as a video game. Its more like an interactive film. Although the story telling, acting and atmosphere are amazing, I found the crucial interrogation system to be deeply flawed. If I got a question wrong I would quit out to the menu and reload from the same point, otherwise I miss out on the plot which is VERY irritating. I think they could have explored the morality aspect a bit more, it would be interesting if you weren't such a clean cut cop. If you had the ability to take bribes, plant evidence or force confessions with violence I think it would have made the game more interesting because even though Cole Phelps does everything by the book, the player should be able to make their own decisions. Instead, I felt like a passenger following him around.

Couldn't ask for more from a Mortal Kombat revival! If you grew up in the 90s, get some friends over and play the 4 player tag mode with a few beers. It is properly fun. You can complain the game is not very techinical, but Mortal Kombat was never originally about elaborate combos or systems. It was about bashing your friends brains in and then setting him on fire!

Fallout: New Vegas5
Mar 7, 2011
Its such a shame this game is so glitchy because I really wanted to enjoy it. I loved Fallout 3. I put about 100+ hours into it, including the expansions. But, this is not that game, it is just so broken. There's too many examples to give, one is a shop that I literally cannot buy from because everytime I do, the game freezes. The VATS occasionally fails, leaving your character standing still in slow motion until he is killed. Important characters can spawn in the wrong places and enemies FREQUENTLY become stuck in objects. It just kills the experience and really and the only fair way to describe this is as a faulty product. Its that simple. I have lots of games and none of them have issues of this magnitude. On the plus side, if you have the patience to get past the glitches (that you will encounter A LOT) the main story arc is actually a lot better than Fallout 3's because it allows for you to have a lot more significant impact with your decisions and makes you feel like you really are making the game your own, for me, this is where the appeal in games like this lies so I have had fun when the game has been working, The faction system is also done very well. Its not just "Loved, neutral, hated." You can develop very complex relations with New Vegas' inhabitants. but they still need to do something about the dialogue. Its very wooden the way NPCs just stand still during conversations. There's no life to them like there is in games like Mass Effect or Red Dead and think that should be addressed in future.

The multiplayer in this game is a mess and needs some serious fixing. There is only one mode and there is only Quick Match or Private Match. Why can't you host a public match or search for particular maps? Why does Private Match have no custom options or than map selection? There's no host migration which means if the host disconnects the game is over for everybody else: Therefore you can play 7 waves and if the host quits everybody else gets screwed. In quick match, it often adds you to games that are around wave 10 or so (I have noticed this is normally the wave where players will quit). This is fine, except the new player will have no upgrades which other players have been building up since the start. That puts him a serious disadvantage as they are weaker, slower have less weapons and ammuntion against strong enemies. The team skill shots are extremely unreliable to pull off. Its really stupid that one player has to initiate the kill and another has to finish it (so it requires EXACTLY two players) because with four players it is often hard to tell who has kicked or leashed the enemy and if the wrong player finishes the move it is failed. The game offers no way to boot players. This is one of the biggest issues. Players who idle make the game impossible as the required points for each round increase for every player in the game. Therefore an idling player makes it progressing past a difficult wave nigh impossible. Also, inexperienced (or simply just trolling) players can sabotage your game by purposefully failing team challenges. A MESS!!

This game really disappointed me. The single player is actually very decent, even though the story is a bit dull and cliched . It also has a lot of invisble walls and it gets frustrating because you're constantly standing behind your AI companions waiting for them to clear obstacles for you. Despite that its very solid in combat and in some parts I thought the graphics were really amazing. Mutliplayer was the big disappointment though, It felt like a mix of MW and Battlefield BC's, but not as good as either's. It feels so disjointed from the main game because they change the controls, no leaning or going prone any more, why not? Honestly though I know it was dice working on this ,but it feels so similar to a lesser BC 2 its not even funny.

This is a great game on paper, I mean it looks stunning. Unfortunately the gameplay is really sluggish and the controls have been ruined. They removed all secondary fire from the original, which means the weapon designs no longer make sense (one assault rifle still has the grenade launcher from the first game, but it is now inexplicably useless). Also, the cover system is terrible, totally unecessary in game like this- I can see what they tried to do, but it ends up being very awkward an unsatisfying trying to lean, scope and aim all at the same time... Beautiful game, disappointing gameplay. Hopefully Killzone 3 will address these issues.

What a piece of recycled garbage. 560 ms points for two stages that look like they're from the original Left 4 Dead and another that I already paid for months ago, again. There's nothing else other than those two boring generic stages, they couldn't even be bothered to just reskin some of the weapons and pretend its something new. You may think that the score is harsh, but view it in the context that A) I would pay and support Valve if the DLC had substance - especially since L4D DLC is so rare on Xbox. and B) you can get so much free DLC on the PC version. Also, trying to fob off the mutations as if its a great addition, if there was the option to have custom games like in UT and Halo, then we wouldn't need to them. I love Left 4 Dead, so much so I was fooled into getting DLC so I could extend its meager lifespan. All I can say is, I won't be fooled again.
