This game caught me completely by surprise. This is a game where limbo is a vast open sea and you have to befriend spirits before sending them onto the afterlife. The game at its core is a farming/resource management game, however the fact that your "farm" is set on a boat which steers itself allows you to multitask with ease. The 2D art style is amazing and the soundtrack is phenomenal. My only main complaint is with the Switch version in general: As your boat gets bigger; the game starts to suffer from a framerate issues, hopefully that can be amended in the future.

Death Stranding4

This game has absolutely no business being a big budget AAA title. All the reviewers I heard said the game is "Not for Everyone" yet Sony has been marketing it like a Mass Appeal $60 game. While the concept of the world is unique and had me invested, the actual storytelling is paced terribly. It took 2 goddamn hours for the plot of the game to actually start. Not to mention the over the top symbolism thrown into the naming conventions. The main character is Sam Porter Bridges, because his name is Sam working as a porter for the company Bridges, a company who's motto is connecting people. Outposts are called Knots, and your goal is to connect these knots with a massive data connection called "Strands". Its so obnoxious that it delves right into being pretentious. Gameplay is not much better, the core gameplay loop revolves around getting one "KNOT" to another, with your main obstacle being the terrain. Thing is if you carry too much, you're more easy to lose your cargo just from stepping on a small rock. But if you travel light, you'll end up being forced to make repeated trips. And the actual trecks themselves are BORING! The only time something interesting happens is if you walk into what's known as BT territory; where Ghosts wander the ares, but it's painfully easy to avoid them. The other main enemy are MULE's who will frequently attack you, yet the combat comes down to easy button mashing to make quick work of them. Whenever you do beat a quest though, the game is eager to shower you with hollow praise, no better than a gatcha game that throws confetti everywhere to make the players feel like they're accomplishing something. All in all, this game is nowhere near as profound or innovate as it's director Hideo Kojima is propping in up to be.

One of the worst Nintendo games I've ever played. The microtransactions are overpriced, the Lootbox pipe shoots out way too many duplicates, I've lost weekly prizes due to errors, and there is no multiplayer. This is EA levels of greed.

Absolutely awful, one of the worst games I've played in a long time The mission structure is almost non existent. The the enemy AI is either super tough or super dumb, the map blatantly copy-pastes assets everywhere. I also experienced the game crashing on me quite a few times. I did play the game with some strangers in Co-op and the most fun we had was laughing at how broken the game is.

Its great to see how Rockstar has managed to create an online environment with very little downtime and a story to boot which is surprising. Unfortunately I have to give it a 1 for a very serious issue: It's Economy. The amount of money you earn in missions is pitiful. Usually about $4-7, and in comparison: Guns average around $130 - $200. Even if you win a Battle Royale match you'll only get $10. It's very clear this system was set in place to get people to purchase microtransactions, those are currently not online ... yet. However the menus have clearly been set up. It looks like Rockstar knows how controversial they're system is going to be and disabled it at launch to allow for its players to demand it due to how expensive everything is. NO! Don't fall for that.

My god I thought Sea of Thieves Wes bad due to lack of content but this takes the cake. The missions while having a bit more variety that SOT are still lacking in variation. Not to mention their randomized goals would often send me to locations I’ve already cleared. But of course the biggest problem are the bugs. It’s very clear this game was rushed out the door considering the advertised beta never happened. I lost my best character due to being catapulted in the air and dying from fall damage. What makes the bugs hurt worse is that you can’t reload from a previous save. Absolutely Unacceptable I’m fine with permadeath but only if the game ran properly. If I lose progress due to glitches, it’s a bad game plain and simple.

Dammit Rare, You dun **** up! As a longtime fan of Rare's titles I was hoping that this would be their return to glory, in an epic sea fearing swashbuckling adventure. I mean credit where credit is due, the game looks amazing especially with the water effects, the characters are very charming and the emotes and the ability to play shanties on deck is awesome. However the game is sorely lacking in content variety, as quests often boil down to one of three different types depending on which merchant you visit and they all get repetitive very quickly, the progression system is also virtually non existent. Not to mention various bugs I've experienced from my items disappearing to my money suddenly disappearing to not even being able to play the game due to server issues. Very VERY disappointing.

At it's core, the game is pretty much the same as the Wii U version, though without the Mystery Mushrooms, and everything runs and performs very well. The included courses with set challenges are pretty fun too. BUT and this is a big BUT Being unable to share courses online, AND being unable to search for courses manually is a major deal breaker. Super Mario Maker is on of my favourite Wii U games, but without the ability to share courses, creating courses feels pointless. Hopefully Nintendo will see the error of their ways and patch this.

Dear Team Ico You had EIGHT YEARS to optimise a game that was originally designed for the PLAYSTATION THREE! Hell the visuals still look like a PS3 game, and yet the framerate keeps hitting sub 20fps on the PLAYSTATION FOUR! I wanted to really like this game but this is simply unacceptable. I can look past the dated visuals but not when the game is running this poorly.

I've had enough of this BS. This game is Broken ... BROOOKKEENNN, It crashes frequently, locks up if I catch a Pokemon or start a Gym battle, Constantly logs me out. The Opening Load times just add fuel to the fire of frustration of having to constantly restart the game. There is literally no excuse for a game to be released in such a current state, especially since it likes to drain my Battery and my Data plan. It's unoptimized, it's shallow and its clear they released it early to cash in on the Pokemon Nostalgia. If you want to keep playing, I ain't going to stop you. However I implore you DON'T SPEND A CENT on this game until they fix the issues.

Star Fox Zero9

If there's one thing I want to say to every single reviewer who hated the game for the controls is: "GIT GUD!" Honestly I took my time with the training sequence of this game to familiarise myself with the aiming controls and within the very first mission I had gotten a good grasp of them, by mission 2 I felt like I'd mastered them, and boy does the practice pay off. I think where the controls work the best is in all range mode when you're fighting against Star Wolf. The added adreneline from trying to line up your shots while flying, and avoiding fire is absolutely exhilarating and worth every single dollar I dropped on the game. My main complaint with this game is the Zoness level, The Gyrowing really slows down the pace and sometimes it can be tricky to figure out where to go, but aside from that one stage, its high replay value and the insane challenge this game brings. IT'S AWESOME!

Xenoblade Chronicles X7
Dec 6, 2015
Xenoblade Chronicles X is arguably Monolith Soft's most ambitious title to date and by far one of the biggest games on the Wii U in terms of scope, length and just how frigging huge the world is. However it is not without its faults along the way, and unfortunately there are quite a few. Make no mistake, Xenoblade Chronicles X has the most amazing open world map I've ever seen, its vibrant, awe inspiring and the creatures that inhabit it are a sight to behold. It is so easy to get swamped by Planet Mira's natural beauty as you take time to appreciate the world and the impressive undertaking Monolith Soft has given us. However the Beauty of the game does start to were thin when you notice the technical sacrifices needed to bring the game to the Wii U. For starters pop in is abound, even if you have the install data, as characters will appear when you get really close to them. Also despite the dynamic weather, the game's skybox stays static: That mean Mira's Moons and sun are constantly in a static position in the sky with day/night transitions so jarringly fast it's very immersion breaking. Gameplay: Exploration is excellent, character movement never gets hindered allowing you to run across the landscapes at full speed. The combat is also pretty engaging too, it may come off as overwhelming at first but balancing between using special attacks, managing your team and positioning yourself for the right sort of attack. Unfortunately its the micromanaging of the rest of the game that holds it down, there's so many different features and menus in the game that aren't explained very well, and it's implementation is certainly going to be divisive for some players: For one this is a true hardcore RPG fan's game, if you've been annoyed by some of your other games dumbing down their RPG mechanics, this is certainly the game for you. However its also a bit TOO heavily implemented into everything, as you have to micromanage resources from probes, your teams armour, passive skills, special abilities, what buffs they offer during battle, your class, what abilities should be upgraded, what weapons get expansions, and that's not even a third of what the game offers. Even worse is that a lot of these menus aren't very well explained which is certainly going to scare off those who can't find themselves committed to a game like this. The music is also a very mixed bag of both incredible and terrible tunes. Lots of the exploration and action focused cutscene tunes are incredible and really show off Hiroyuki Sawano true talents. Unfortunately its the random battle music that really gets on my nerves ... it ****, and the fact that it plays frequently just gets bothersome. There's also the issue during dialogue heavy scenes where the music is sometimes so overbearing that you can't hear the dialogue, and there's no option to adjust the music levels to remedy this unfortunately. For that I highly recommend keeping subtitles on. Side Missions are also a very mixed bag too, sadly most of them resort to mundane fetch quests or kill target quests, and even worse for some boneheaded reason the game locks out Main Story Missions until you've at least cleared some quests and installed a certain number of Data Probes over Mira. It just feels like needless padding in a game that certainly doesn't need it, seeing as you're looking at about 70-80 hours on your first playthrough. However your milage may vary given the mixed nature of missions provided you can enjoy the game for what it is. I really wanted to love this game, I've been waiting for it since 2013 when it was first announced, so I'm rather disappointed by so many small shortcomings that slowly buildup to even bigger issues that what we should have. Still if you're a hardcore RPG fan looking to scratch that itch that's been missing from a lot of AAA releases as of late, I'd easily recommend this game to you no question. For anyone else though ... I'd consider renting it first before buying.

Encapsulates the absolute worst type of pay model found in Smartphone F2P social games, and being on the 3DS. You're given 5 hearts which count as turns, and each take about 1-2 minutes to burn through, after you've exhausted your 5 hearts you can either wait 30 minutes to restore ONE, hunt for Streetpass hits, or buy more hearts. The fact that it has the Pokemon brand slapped all over it trying to entice children to play is even more dishonest. Shame on you Nintendo for doing something like this.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U8
Nov 23, 2014
It's certainly a fantastic game no question about that, and certainly one Wii U owners should own especially for when you have friends come around. Is it the best Wii U game out there? Close but not quite. I think Bayonetta 2 currently hold that title, which seems strange let me tell you, though I ain't Complaining. PROS # Its Still the same Smash Bros that we all got around the couch for in the Gamecube and Wii days, It strikes the right balance as being faster than Brawl though not as fast as Melee, just that right balance that I like # The character roster is impressive, one of the strongest I've seen in a fighting game just outside of Marvel VS Capcom 2, I especially like some the new characters, I really grew fond of Shulk and Pac-Man rather quickly. # 8 Player Smash is really fun, my personal preference is 6 as I feel that's the right balance of players on the field without being too chaotic. # LOTS of unlockables, they will certainly keep you busy for weeks on end. WHAT I DON'T LIKE # The Menu's are a bit tricky to navigate, the fact that some buttons are smaller than others and not very well titled makes them a bit of a hassle to navigate. # Lots of recycled assets in the form of Stages and Music tracks, while they are nice to see return I would have appreciated a bit more originality. # Smash Tour is lame. Its too randomised and a bit of a slog to be enjoyable. My friends and I tried it twice, the 2nd time when we knew what we were doing and didn't go back to it.. # Classic mode shares a really annoying gripe I have with Kid Icarus: Uprising, and that is when you die the difficulty is automatically lowered. URRRGHHH DON'T F*****G DO THAT SAKURAI, IT FEELS INCREDIBLY CONDESCENDING AS IF THE GAME IS SAYING: "Oh its too hard for you? Let me make it easier" NO!!! I want to learn from my mistakes not have the experienced dumbed down.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes5
Mar 19, 2014
Rent it! Honestly that's the best advice I can give for this game both for MGS fans and newbies to the series. MGSV:GZ is a very nice open sandbox mission with a nice moody environment during a night thunderstorm. And the gameplay is great offering a new "reflex" mode if you get spotted by an enemy which slows down into bullet time mode allowing you to take out the enemy with a headshot. You can also you a various array of vehicles to get anywhere you want on the map if you prefer going guns blazing. That all being said the biggest problem with this game is it's length. If you take your time on the main mission and collect all the XOF patches and rescue all the prisoners you can finish it in about 3 hours. But on my first run I ended up finishing it in an hour. There are some extra side missions that are set on the same map but they're only there as an extra mode and don't really offer anything different since it's all on the same map, with the exception of Deja Vu mode where you have to recreate scene's from previous MGS games by getting poses and camera exactly right. All in all you can cover everything in the game in about 5 hours, and honestly at the price they're asking for, I cannot recommend buying this game. If you're interested in the game, rent it. That's the nicest advice I can offer. Otherwise you're best waiting for The Phantom Pain.

Steel Diver: Sub Wars8
Feb 15, 2014
Surprisingly very fun. Its a sub based First Person Shooter that relies more on strategy and placement rather than twitch reflexes, which can lead to some incredibly tense gameplay moments. While some people may call it a Free To Play game I'd really be reluctant to call it an F2P game, its more like a Demo with the full game being $10 along with real sub DLC at $1 a piece, meaning the max you can spend on this game is $15, which is pretty reasonable. While some people may think its Pay to Win with this model it is possible to take out premium subs with the free subs with some good strategy. I was able to take out a match of sinking all 4 enemy subs 2 of which were premium subs. The Single player is pretty neat all be it a bit short with only 2 missions available in the free mode, 7 in the premium mode, granted each stage has 3 levels of difficulty which increases or changes the enemies or types of enemies on each map. But really its only good for a distraction since the multiplayer is where its at. While I have praised the Online mode to keep you coming back for more given its very addictive nature I do have some issues with it. Firstly there's only one multiplayer mode which is 4v4 Last Man Standing. Also theres no Friend matches or invites which is disappointing. Also the game makes to chat in this game using ... I **** you not ... Morse Code. While it sounds like an awesome setup, it turns out to be more of a novelty rather than practical. But the sheer fun alone and the fact that its free makes can give me a high recommendation to try it out.

Mighty Switch Force! 29
Jul 4, 2013
Better than the original, the Firehose allows for some really creative puzzle solving, its more harder but never unfair, and has a great sense of accomplishment. I should disclose this right away, I absolutely loved the first Mighty Switch Force although I was left rather wanting more after finishing the first one and hitting all the par times, though the nice incentive of free DLC was a nice bonus. Here like the first there's only 16 levels again with par times but replay value is extended with the addition of a hidden baby located in each level and without spoiling anything I have to say the way the main character "rescues" these babies is freaking hilarious everytime I see it. As I mentioned earlier this game has quite a bit of challenge to it, but not once did I ever feel that this game was unfair, just like the last game you have your usual blocks that you can switch in back and forth as well as some more creative "launch blocks" and red and blue colour blocks, though added to the mix is the inclusion of mud blocks which unlike the first game you shouldn't just go around blasting away as you might miss something important, also no are the added green blocks which ad a new layer of difficulty introduced in the final stages of the game. Most of the enemies in this game have been reuses aside from about 3 new faces although I don't really see this as a big issue since the ones that were indeed carried over had nothing wrong with them and hey since Mario has been able to get away with reusing Goomba's and Koopa's why not Patty Wagon? The soundtrack just like the first game is AWESOME, Jake Kaufman once again brings his A-game sporting some brilliant and catchy tunes including one absolutely hilarious final credits song that you have to check out, one minor nitpick though is that one song in particular I felt started off very well but halfway through went into a rather forced Dubstep rift that felt very out of place, regardless thought every other song is fantastic, just like the first soundtrack I downloaded it from Virt's Bandcamp and really happily listen to it on my iPod whenever I can. Overall I'd highly recommend it especially if you've played the original, if you haven't go play that one first then pick this one up, they're both really cheap on the eShop right now at about $6 each
