Woof, this show is bad. The opening scene pretty much told me that this character would be very unlikeable, but I soldiered on. Once I got a few more minutes into the show, I was struck by how bad the writing was. The dialogue, particularly -- nobody talks like these characters do. Acting was generally poor. And the directing was not on point, either. They somehow made Jim Rash not funny, which seems like it'd be very hard to accomplish. As much as I'm into superhero shows, hard pass. EDIT: Also, for the people who rate this highly and claim anyone who doesn't like are anti-woke or anti-diversity, I LOVED Ms Marvel (and Kahori in the What If series) so my dislike has nothing to do with POC or women or diversity in Marvel shows (I'm all for that, and hope we get more of that). It comes down to problems with the show itself.

Shows like this which tackle "difficult" social problems are often hailed as being brilliant and noteworthy simply because they shine a light on an uncomfortable area of society. I feel like that's the case here -- it's one of those "every parent needs to watch this" shows, but in essence it's little more than fearmongering, pandering, and trumped-up drama. To top all that (as someone else here mentioned), the lingering one-shots which go on far too long are a bit pretentious, attempting to signal artistic vision, but really only serving to pad the runtime and make this viewer eager for them to just get on with it, and move on to the next scene. Lastly, in these times especially, I have little desire to watch something so depressing and dark. Life right now is depressing and dark enough -- I don't need a TV show to add to the overall malaise of the world.

So, I've been a huge fan of some of Denis Leary's TV work, but this is no "Rescue Me" -- nor is it even close to the quality of "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll". His characters on those shows felt real, but this one feels more like a caricature. I've also been a huge fan of Danny Pudi on "Community" -- but his acting also seems forced here. However, a lot of TV shows had a really rough start only to turn into something special later on -- and thus far, I've only seen the pilot -- so I'll give this another couple of episodes to see if they find their footing.

The Curse (2023)3

Emma Stone is the only good thing about this show. I don't understand how so many people apparently think if a show is full of nothing but awkward situations, it's automatically funny. There has to be more than just making the characters -- and the audience -- feel uncomfortable. I get that they were trying to make a satirical commentary here, but for me, it failed miserably.

The Curse: Season 110

In the words of The Independent: "Unlike the not-that-lovable rogues, the creators of The Curse clearly have a very good idea of what they’re about, and their plan is seamlessly executed to highly amusing effect. They deserve a reward for recovering such an impressive haul of comedy gold."

Secret Invasion: Season 13

Tedious and boring. When even the presence of Nick Fury and Maria Hill elicits yawns, something has gone terribly wrong. Olivia Colman was great, though. I'd watch a series based around her character, as long as the writing was decent. On another note that's being talked about a lot, I don't care one way or the other that the opening sequence was apparently created by AI -- but I do care that it also was boring, and went on way too long. I think I made it halfway through before I started fast-forwarding, and then after a bit of that, I just stopped watching. Other Marvel shows have been enjoyable -- this one was not.

I have to wonder if a lot of the 10/10 ratings I'm seeing are due more to nostalgia, and the enjoyment of spending time with "old friends", than for actual quality of the episodes. Because for me, while I found several sketches quite funny (Foley as an apocalyptic DJ, for one), most were in the 'mediocre' camp, and a couple were downright awful. I was a big fan of KITH back in the day, but was sadly let down by much of this new outing. For me, the writing was the main culprit -- it just felt lazy to me.

Just not funny. None of the jokes landed. Not sure what's more to blame: the writing, the editing, the directing, or the acting. But pretty sure if the writing was good, there'd at least be a chuckle in there somewhere.

Look, I can't deny that this is a pretty well-made show. It's well shot, fairly decently acted... but it didn't draw me in at all. After the first episode, I decided that was enough. There's too much really good television out there (much of which I still need to catch up on, like Better Call Saul) for me to spend time watching something with a story and characters that I couldn't care less about.

I was reading comments on another site that you must be a Trump supporter if you hate this show. Well, no. I think Trump is an idiot, but I also think this show is just plain bad. Was surprised that the director made the Paddington movies, which I thought were great, but maybe directing live action just isn't his forte. The actors in this all deserved better. And the otherwise very talented creators should've taken a more hands-on approach here, because this was disappointing on so many levels.

Just awful writing. Even if it does get better after the first few episodes, how anyone could put themselves through that kind of punishment is beyond me.
