The Surge 29
Dec 12, 2019
Wanted to rate a 10 to offset overall user rating but went with honesty and rounded up..
Actual final score: 8.5 FIRST, is it better than the original? Yes and no.. yes, better overall flow and fluidity in combat and the game has many more overall weapons and armor sets.. so yeah, It’s a bigger version of the first with more bosses and the areas are well done.. no? Why, is it not better than the first? Warren should’ve been the main character but we will see it we get a Surge 3 and they give us back Warren.. no, also, because the main character customization wasn’t at all exciting and didn’t feel really gratifying of an experience.. code vein has much better character customization.. surge 2 limits cosmetics available to the player.. Combat: 90 A-
Sounds: 80 B-
Visuals/graphics: 85 B
Story: 85 B
-OVERALL- 85 B Overall, if you liked the first, you deserve to get the second.. maybe let it go on sale? I got mine for $40 this past Black Friday and it came with the DELUXE edition with art work and a mini comic and a cool case.. On the fence, don’t know if I will get the DLC.. probably not, but I did the theme park in the original Surge, so would be interested and may purchase theme park if they rotate it to the sequel. I have seen two or three ads FOR the theme park in my playthroughs and gotta say: I would eat it up if they recycled that DLC, with an original take on it but something similar with side quests and the sorts..

WOW! I was pleasantly surprised with this game. At first, there's a sharp learning curve. I imagine this curve is much deeper and harder to turn with if you are more of a casual gamer. I won't lie: it's not as hard as everyone says it is, but you have to get past this curve first. When I first started this game and I was going through the first region, I was deeply frustrated with the game and considered putting it down many times. I'm glad that I didn't. This game is a 9.5 in my books, so I rounded it up to a 10 considering it's my current GOTY. People are constantly comparing this game to dark souls and Bloodborne. Honestly, it's nothing like the games From Software had to offer. The basic "health bar, magic bar, stamina bar" and premises to the combat system are where the similarities end. Some may argue these are big similarities. However, when only 10% of the games' traits could be considerable as alike in some way, form or fashion, I would venture to say that other 90% makes the two types very much apart from one another. There are a list of ways why they are different, but it's a good thing that they are. This game is in the same genre, sure, but there are a number of distinctions that set it apart from games made by From Software. Nioh is amazing. It has gameplay that is very unique and a combat system that leaves one begging for more once they've got the hang of it.

I played the closed alpha, open beta, and now I've played the full game as of midnight. The game is great!I'd say a 9/10 (more like an 8.6 or 8.7, but I'm rounding up). The gameplay is fantastic. So far, I've played all of the multiplayer modes that are available. I have not yet touched the campaign, in fear that many will get ahead of me in multiplayer as far as level and prestige. There are four game modes and you can choose to play against players of AI. I would highly recommend it. I will say this, the closed alpha, in terms of balance and gear attributes/specs, was the best out of the three. It's annoying that my blade dictates my defensive stats. Why would the blade of my warrior indicate how much damage he takes when he is hit? On the closed alpha, it was the breast piece, the chest mantle that dictated defense.

Minecraft: Story Mode - Episode 8: A Journey's End?9
Sep 23, 2016
Well, it didn't make me cry, hahahaha. However, it was sort of tear jerking reminiscence on how far the group had came and all the adventures they had gone through together to get to the point they found themselves at the end. I hope they go in a similar direction with the second chapter of this series. It was by far the best episode of this series, in my honest opinion, and the feel good story of the year for video games. This episode had me laughing out loud at least three times and once it had me bellowing out of control. Would've given it a 10, but the episode did feel rushed, especially in the penultimate scenes. Overall, I love the writing the most. The gameplay was good, as was the atmosphere, but the writing took the cape and crown as it should with telltale games. I would rank this as my third favorite telltale game, which is saying A LOT from a telltale fan that has played all of their games on the PlayStation.

7 Days to Die9
Aug 12, 2016
You know, when you first start this game, you're probably going to hate it. It might get you heated or frustrated by its unconventional mechanics and very odd at first (slightly uncomfortable) gameplay. It happened to me and my friend. And you want to know something? I played it the very next day on single player game I created by myself, and I absolutely fell in love with this game. I'm giving it a very conditional 8.5 due to the fact that it is in alpha still. This game will only get better with time. Therefore, I gave it a 9, but I wouldn't be surprised if it climbed all the way up to a 9.5 in my books. The main thing you have to keep in mind with this game is this: it has layers-- layers and layers of content in its gameplay and matchmaking that make this game very promising. First impressions can be quite uncomfortable and often unforgiving in life, but don't let this one be that to you in your experience with it should you choose to buy it or try it out. Give it time, and you, too, will start to love this game. Play with a friend, after gaining your bearings and getting adapted to its core gameplay mechanics, to even further enhance and excite your overall experience with 7 days to die. My little brother and I are both having an absolute blast playing this together. In about 5 hours, give or take, we made great progress in our server; we got all the way to day 7 hordes and we're still alive and thriving. We killed just short of 300 (296) zombies together in our first in-game week to which we both we're playing seriously on "classic zombies" mode on nomad. And we did all that in 5 hours, more or less. Like I said before, its only going to get better. There aren't any game breaking glitches in this game from what me or any of my friends have noticed. Its not at all repetitive in the gameplay, unless you're making it that way in your own respective play style. The game is refreshing and innovational, with already over two million copies sold on PC and steam alone. On a lasting note, patches to fix and rehabilitate problems that some of these guys are addressing in their negative votes (in the red, 4 out of 10 and below) have already gone live on PS4 and Xbox one. Right now, in fact, we are already in version 1.03 and it has seriously smoothed out a lot of rough edges. Is it still laggy and a bit clunky at times? Yes, sure, of course. Future patches and plans are already in place. If you really are considering buying this game, do a little research and you will see what the future has in store for this game. Give it a real chance before you burn on it and just call it trash. It's a true indie-like gem, and I, as many other gamers, am truly happy and grateful that they brought this over to console. Anticipating and eager to see what they do with it in the near future.

Adventures of Mana7
Jul 11, 2016
It doesn't quite feel like a Mana series game. It doesn't quite come off as a Final Fantasy type game, either. However, Adventures of Mana (AKA Final Fantasy Adventures) is all-in-all a passable PlayStation Vita RPG. For older gamers, it is very nostalgic of years back when we were gaming it down on SNES or Gameboy. Heck, it even was a Gameboy game released originally back in 1991, and then re-released in 1998 for the United States. Being a huge Legend of Mana (easily in my top 3 all-time favorite ps1 games), Sword of Mana, and Secret of Mana fan-- it's good to see where the Mana series all started. Why it's a 7? Well, lets not kid ourselves. We are half way through the year in 2016. This game is over 25 years old from its initial release date. A LOT has changed since then. Yes, it has good gameplay and yes, it's got a nice soundtrack and a decent story line. The characters are alright. The price is good. But nothing stands out as excellent to be completely honest. It's one of those games you pick it up and you play it for a couple days or so... A week at most give or take... Then, you're done with it. There's like virtually little to no replay-ability. Unless you are a trophy hunter, and you missed a piece of inventory/equipment from your collection, I don't really see the draw to go back and play this game again. Truth be told, there are better games out there for any given specific current gen mobile platform (even cell phones and the sorts). There are even better RPGs. However, if you loved Mana like me or many others, and you are an old gamer, and you love old school RPGs, then this is absolutely a must-have treasure that you can point back at and say proudly-- "Yeah, I played that. I beat it."

Full Mojo Rampage9
Jul 11, 2016
A twin stick shooter RPG, where you can hold up to a max of five equipment slots and six inventory slots. Level 15 is the cap level, but along the way you can level up your stats, including health points, damage boost, attack rate, and movement speed. I can't believe this game got a 67 critic score at the present moment. This game has a lot to offer. I gave it a 9, but in all honesty its a strong 8.5 (I rounded up). It's a lot of fun to play with friends and it passes by the time very quickly. Many of my friends compare this to diablo 3 and fat princess adventures. To me, I can see similarities in both these referenced games, as well as a bit of dead nation -esque gameplay. What to expect, the online community is dead. Sadly, you will have to gather friends from communities and forums to play this with others. However, it has plenty of co-op and PvP modes, and you can play this game solo or split screen in couch co-op. There are four main quests in the story line. Yes, the game is indeed short, but there are six difficulties and you unlock a new difficulty by beating the game over and over again. Redundant and repetitive, then? No, actually, this game has randomized quest stages and dungeons, so there won't be any two quests that are exactly alike. Besides the story quests, there is also the daily quest, an endless run, night of the living dead (survival gauntlet single player only), and survival endless. On the PvP side, there are four modes: king of mojo (king of the hill), CTF (capture the flag), team death match, and death match. PvP has up to eight players, and co-op has up to four. I believe split screen is two players for couch co-op, I'm unsure if you can do three or four on split screen. There are a total of 112 items in the game, 8 different Loa that you swear allegiance to, and somewhere around 24 give or take pins that you can equip to buff your character up. You can further increase the effectiveness of these pins by investing gold into them. There's also a lot of stylish masks to wear. Some are even gags from other videogames! There's a bunch of masks to choose from. Also, you can get cool codes from certain items. After inputting their specific codes into the codes option on the main menu you can obtain new masks. There's a ton of content and the challenging difficulties make hardcore gamers keep coming back for more, making this game have pretty damn high replay-ability. I think it is laughable that some people find crap games like enter the gungeon better than this game. What a joke! This game has a lot to offer. I have really enjoyed my time spent with this game and I will keep it downloaded to my PS4 for a long while to come. It's fun to play alone, with family, and with friends. I would say it's good for ages 10 and up to play. It does have slight alcohol and tobacco references. Bottom line is, if you enjoy twin stick shooters, or you like rogue-like RPGs, or you just want to play a really fun indie that won't break the bank: you deserve it to yourself to go out and grab full mojo rampage. It's honestly in my personal opinion better than Binding of Isaac. This game is definitely in my top five for best indies on the PlayStation 4.

Umbrella Corps7

Honestly, this game is a 7.5 for me, but if you don't enjoy online competitive multiplayer then don't even attempt at buying or playing this game. It isn't for everyone. Even for those that do enjoy online competitive shooters, there might be a problem with redundancy and lack of content. So, for many, 7.5 may be way too gracious, even if this is their genre. For most, I would say this game is a solid 6.5 just due to sheer lack of content. There are maybe about 10 maps, give or take, and there are only two main game modes: one life or mixed objectives mode. In one life, you have one life. Self explanatory, yes, but all online modes are conducted in a three versus three format, where the first team to take 3 wins first gets the victory. If there happens to be a draw in a particular round, then both teams are awarded a half a point. So, if both teams win 2 rounds and then there's a draw, then the score would be 2.5 to 2.5. In mixed objectives mode, there are many different game types that are shuffled about to determine a victor. Just think of your typical competitive shooters. The list is as follows: 1. There's a kill confirmed (collars) round first to 15, 2. there's a team death match (respawn) round first to 15, 3. there's two briefcase modes (one has one briefcase that must be held onto by a team member or opponent for 60 seconds to win and the other where there are 5 briefcases and a team has to have all 5 in possession to win) 4. there's two DNA modes (one where its a special DNA strand from a mutated stronger zombie and one team has to collect 3 samples to win and one where its first to 60 regular zombie DNA strands) 5. there's a target hunter mode where you have to kill a specific target who will have a crown like shape over their head, also while trying to protect your partner who has the same crown from your opponents, first to 5 6. and finally there's domination which is just search and defend a specific spot in the map, 60 points takes a win IIRC There's a 3 minute limit to all game modes, and the team with the highest score will win in each respective mode/round/match. That's the gist of the entire game. There's also a single player mode that's called "the experiment," which I haven't personally tried out just yet. With multiplayer, there are U-play awards that you get after doing something enough times (i.e. triple kill, or shotgun kills, etc.). The more you do of a specific award, the higher the medal you get. These bonuses will give you extra experience and help you level faster. The max rank is 60. Somehow, there's already a level 42. Probably someone who had early access or something, because no one is touching his score on the leaderboards. This game might get old to many who get bored easily or aren't into this kind of gaming genre. However, I found it quite fun and it is especially fun if you have a buddy or two to play with in the same squad as you. As with any other game, the more you rank up, the more you unlock goodies (equipment customizations). NOTE: I experienced a pretty nasty glitch. R2 wouldn't fire for me, and it severely lowered my K/D ratio, and also hurt my W/L ratio. I now have to play left-handed to where I switched the controls for R2 to zoom in (aim) and L2 to fire. Nothing is wrong with either one of my controllers, and I suspect it might have something to do with how I downloaded this game on Saturday at midnight (Friday night, technically Saturday 12AM). It takes awhile to get used to, but after awhile if it happens to you and you have to switch this up, you'll get used to it. It didn't happen to anyone else I know and there are no other complaints that I could find on a Google/Bing search, so it might just be a few isolated incidents. Then again, this game only became playable about 8 hours ago.. So, here's a preliminary warning, I suppose.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered10
May 17, 2016
Everything that made this game special is that much better on the ps4. Not only does it include all the DLC from the ps3 version, it also has a 60 fps and HD re-mastered quality of graphics making this game shine golden all over again. Never understood how some people skipped on this one or how very few found it boring or tiresome. This game truly innovates its genre of tactical RPGs with genuine and unique quality traits not found in any other game before it. I was impressed with this game way back when it came out on the ps3 so long ago, and I'm even more impressed that they brought it back and boosted it up to be an even better **** then it was back then. Can't wait for the "sequel," or "spiritual successor" if you will, that will come most likely next year. If you are a fan of tactics ogre or final fantasy tactics, this is your game! Any fan of RPGs, especially tactical RPGs, will fall in love with this title. It has so much to offer and the story and plot, as well as combat system and gameplay, will leave you begging for more.
