Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel

Ashes of Ariandel is the first of two DLC for the great Dark Souls III. This expansion is more of the same, and that is pretty good news for all fans. Must have if you enjoyed the main game.

After a base game that had me questioning if the formula had lost its spark, this DLC proves that there are still frigid regions still worthy of exploration and horrifying beasts still in need of slaying. I won’t go so far as to say it’s the best Dark Souls has ever been, but it’s certainly the best Dark Souls 3 has ever been.

Ashes of Ariandel is, plain and simple, disappointing. Is it bad content? Nope. Are you going to enjoy it? Most likely. Does the content justify the price? There's no doubt about this: no, it doesn't. We don't know what From Software was thinking when they decided that this could be a DLC but we really hope that the second one is better, since it will mark the ending of the series and it should be a memorable one.

The final boss fight is challenging and worth the DLC, while the PvP arena will keep fans busy for some time, but ultimately the world of Ariandel is bleakly beautiful if unsatisfying.

The Painted World of Ariendel has a bleak beauty that’s begging to be explored, but it’s all over far too quickly.

I appreciate that multiplayer is a big deal in the Souls games, but this is the first time From Software has crafted a piece of DLC content that focuses almost entirely on that multiplayer experience, and I think this will fall flat with plenty of other Souls fans.

Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel misses the mark. It fails to fill a large, fresh environment with tangible reasons to stay there any longer than a few hours, and although the new weapons and gear are some of the best in the game, you'll want to play about with them somewhere other than The Painted World.

One of the best Games known to mankind. From Software is a safe heaven for the Gaming community. Especially in times where big Developers dissapiont us with theyr fraudulent intent. Praise the sun!

Apart from sister freide its very dissapointing. the area isnt very interesting and the other boss is bad.

Sadly, this DLC is a big disappointment. It's a small story expansion, with only 2 boss fights included, along with some new weapons added. Nice environment, some great new enemies, but it still is rather short. The new multiplayer PvP mode "Undead Matches" is simply a joke. Lag is all you will get in this small arena. You can choose from 3 modes and between 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3, but they all follow the same rule, just kill the opponent(s). There is no score board, you only see how many kills you got and have to wait until the match ends, and only then will you learn if you won or lost. But even then, you gain nothing, unlike duels in the main game where you are awarded with souls and/or Covenant items. Ashes of Ariandel costs $15/€15, and there is a 2nd DLC coming in the next few months. For what it offers, it is overpriced. Avoid this, or if you can't have enough of Dark Souls 3, wait for either a discounted DS3+DLC bundle, or a sale of the Season Pass. Don't waste your money.
