Star Trek Into Darkness9
Jul 7, 2013
Cumberbatch made this film. His character is simultaneously terrifying and pitiable, horrible yet caring, and his unpredictability makes his every moment of screen time priceless.
May 5, 2013
To Save a Life8
May 5, 2013
To Save A Life is a little confused and a little too zealous, attempting to deal with several subjects at once and not doing that very effectively. But the film succeeds when it comes to the simple message of how priceless life is, and you don't need religious sentiment to appreciate that.
May 4, 2013
Iron Man 37
May 4, 2013
It has the same appeal that all the Marvel films do- dry humor and plenty of awesome action sequences. But when it comes to the plot, the film is far from greatness. Its enjoyable all the same, but I think the critic and user scores agree that this movie could have been much better.
Apr 18, 2013
Red Eye9
Apr 18, 2013
Engaging in plot and simple in its intensity, Red Eye is terrifying and absorbing simultaneously, hammering at the audience without remorse. Bravo, Wes Craven.
Apr 18, 2013
Les Miserables9
Apr 18, 2013
Les Miserables tells a simple and touching story, and although the film may not do it justice, there is certainly a beautiful element at its center that we would be fools to ignore.
Apr 18, 2013
The Rundown8
Apr 18, 2013
The Rundown is not especially clever or engaging when it comes to storyline. In fact, it's fairly simple. But when you put The Rock and Christopher Walken and Seann William Scott in an action movie together, you certainly can't go wrong. Here is proof.
Apr 17, 2013
Primer9
Apr 17, 2013
Absolutely mind-blowing, and not because the plot is so engaging itself. Carruth spares the vernacular for scientific jargon and feels no remorse, and THAT is what is so intriguing. We don't want to watch it a thrid or fourth time because of the story. We watch it again and again because we want to know what the hell is going on.
Apr 17, 2013
Hancock8
Apr 17, 2013
is an hilarious twist on the modern-day version of a superhero. He destroys cities while fighting crime, and he is often intoxicated during the process. He is rude and crass to everyone he meets. Does this guy need help? Sure, and its going to be a great experience to watch.
Apr 17, 2013
429
Apr 17, 2013
42 is one of the greatest true-life stories ever put onscreen, the story of Jackie Robinson, the African-American baseball player who helped pioneer the entrance of other blacks into participation in major sports. And this film really emphasizes the abuse and the struggle Jackie had to endure, with every slur almost making you cringe, because here is represented one of the great American heroes. Chadwick Boseman really personifies the legend, and give Harrison Ford an Oscar for turning in one of his best performances in years.
Jan 30, 2013
The Brothers Bloom9
Jan 30, 2013
It has action, cheerful comedy, touching romance, tricky capers which are never what they appear to be, and a style of its own that makes the film a fantastic original that certainly deserves more acclaim than it has received.
Dec 23, 2012
Bernie8
Dec 23, 2012
It's a sort of dark comedy with American realism and touching emotion thrown into the mix.
Dec 16, 2012
The Dark Knight8
Dec 16, 2012
The Dark Knight a story about one man's struggle with his conflicting ideas of justice. It is raw, emotional, and bold as it presents its own twist on Batman, and ultimately, on the common misconception of a superhero and what he stands for.
Dec 10, 2012
Super 88
Dec 10, 2012
Super 8 is one of the best alien films to hit theatres in recent years- J.J. Abrams does a great job keeping you thoroughly interested in the story while providing enough tension to quicken the pace of the plot just enough. Well done.
Dec 10, 2012
Red Dawn6
Dec 10, 2012
Though it's not as bad as the critics make it out to be, there's no question Red Dawn is a silly, over-the-top, wannabe-bad ass sort of film. But despite all that, it's actually kind of fun.
Nov 25, 2012
Men in Black8
Nov 25, 2012
In terms of storyline, the film is pretty much disposable. But in terms of performances and over-the-top action, it's a slam dunk: Men In Black is a blast.
Nov 25, 2012
Groundhog Day8
Nov 25, 2012
An hilarious romantic comedy that tells a beautiful story by depicting awful truths. It's Bill Murray at his best, and it has an unquestionably powerful message that can be appreciated and, at the same time, enjoyed.
Nov 22, 2012
Superman Returns8
Nov 22, 2012
Though it certainly isn't on the same scale as Christopher Nolan's Batman when it comes to superhero films, SUPERMAN RETURNS is certainly one of the best.
Nov 22, 2012
Walk the Line8
Nov 22, 2012
Walk the Line is a beautiful film that takes the audience through the destruction and ultimate redemption of the immortal artist's life, emphasized by the flawless lead performances.
Nov 22, 2012
Lincoln9
Nov 22, 2012
Lincoln presents the characters' conflicts without taking sides, but still manages to pull off a perfect historical film that, with the absolutely flawless performance of Daniel Day-Lewis, is sure to be an Oscar contender and remain one of the best films of 2012.
Oct 4, 2012
Snow White and the Huntsman6
Oct 4, 2012
Everyone knows the story of Snow White. And we are presented with a darker, more violent twist on the fairy tale that could have been an excellent film. But in the end, it was just silly.
Oct 4, 2012
The Bourne Legacy8
Oct 4, 2012
The reason nobody liked this film is because there was much less action and much more dialogue than the previous three. But what they don't realize is that this new twist on Bourne is just getting started, and if the entire film had been judo and shoot-outs, what could we expect from the sequels? Legacy sets the foundation for what looks to be like an excellent parallel on Jason Bourne's story.
Sep 3, 2012
Star Trek8
Sep 3, 2012
J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK will certainly be appreciated by those who have enjoyed the original show as a classic series. And as an action film, it certainly delivers. I thought the film was...disposable. But anyone age 30 and on praises it enormously, so I must have been born a decade or so too late.
Jul 21, 2012
The Dark Knight Rises9
Jul 21, 2012
From the incredible opening sequence to the jaw-dropping finale, The Dark Knight Rises is incredible. It falters briefly in the beginning, which is mostly dialogue, but it instantly picks up the pace and ends beautifully, giving a very satisfying conclusion to an epic trilogy.
Jul 16, 2012
The Day After Tomorrow6
Jul 16, 2012
The Day After Tomorrow has no intention of sending some deep or subtle message to its audience. The film is meant to be sheer spectacle, and in that aspect, it succeeds.
Jul 16, 2012
The Amazing Spider-Man7
Jul 16, 2012
The Amazing Spider-Man is very well done. The acting is great, the effects are great, the characters development is very well done. The audience is presented with a more human superhero, flawed in numerous ways but struggling to overcome them while at the same time adapting to his new-found strength. Really, judging it from the comic-lover's point of view, its flawless. And that's all that matters, isn't it?
Jun 16, 2012
John Carter7
Jun 16, 2012
I was sceptical about John Carter from the minute I saw the trailer. It looked like James Cameron and George Lucas had brainstormed a science-fiction film together. But then I saw Andrew Stanton's name in the credits and decided to give it a try. It wasn't great.- the acting was flawed, there was some choppy cinematography and the story didn't flow so well- but it was enjoyable. Not perfect, but fun all the same.
Jun 11, 2012
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End5
Jun 11, 2012
The first film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was great: Unfortunately, as the sequels were released, the whole thing went downhill from there.
Jun 11, 2012
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest6
Jun 11, 2012
Though unequal to the original in plot and character development, the Dead Man's Chest is still extremely fun and enjoyable. Johnny Depp is unbeatable.
Jun 11, 2012
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl7
Jun 11, 2012
Pirates of the Caribbean looks to be the beginning of a new franchise that millions are going to enjoy, not only for the story, but for the cast and over-the-top action the film provides.
Jun 10, 2012
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time7
Jun 10, 2012
The first thing you have to understand about this film is that it is based on a game. Once you realize that, the experience becomes a lot more enjoyable.
Jun 10, 2012
The Forgotten4
Jun 10, 2012
The Forgotten begins with an intriguing premise: however, as the story develops, the audience realizes that the film may not be so psychological as it is supernatural. The film had lots of potential, but it didn't follow through.
Jun 9, 2012
The Bourne Ultimatum8
Jun 9, 2012
Excellent. From action and suspense, to plot and character development, The Bourne Ultimatum improves on everything that made the first two films great.
Jun 9, 2012
The Bourne Supremacy7
Jun 9, 2012
Supremacy is a well-made follow up to Identity in terms of action and suspense; however, its plot lacks in development, and, similar to most sequels, does not fully meet the standards the first film created.
Jun 9, 2012
The Bourne Identity7
Jun 9, 2012
The Bourne Identity makes for a fantastic thriller, with the pivotal positive element of the film being that Jason Bourne doesn't care for violence: he only uses it when provoked.
Jun 9, 2012
Midnight in Paris8
Jun 9, 2012
Midnight in Paris is warm, delightful and charming, with Paris setting the stage for a perfect blend of romance and comedy. This film is a real tribute to art.
Jun 8, 2012
Clash of the Titans6
Jun 8, 2012
Clash of the Titans is not particularly good from the acting and writing perspective- in fact, its pretty terrible. But the action and adventure and scope of the film are enormous fun, and that compensates for what it lacks in other areas.
Jun 6, 2012
Wrath of the Titans4
Jun 6, 2012
Since Clash of the Titans came out in 2010, people realized that the film was nothing more than a popcorn flick: subsequently, when Wrath came out two years later, audiences' expectations were already low, and that's probably the only thing the sequel has going for it.
Jun 6, 2012
Chronicle8
Jun 6, 2012
Although the film style seems unnecessary, Chronicle's plot unravels quite well, giving its audience a perspective that normal people can relate to, as well as developing its protagonists and antagonists without coming off as predictable.
May 20, 2012
Lockout7
May 20, 2012
It's great to see Guy Pearce on screen in action again. And he's great at delivering the cheesy lines that are so typical of this sort of gung-ho action **** make you laugh anyway. Lockout is loads of fun.
May 14, 2012
Cowboys & Aliens7
May 14, 2012
Cowboys and Aliens is a lot better than I thought it would be. Sure, the mixing of genres doesn't seem ideal, but who are we to judge? Its enjoyable, its fun- what more can we ask of it?
May 12, 2012
The Tree of Life8
May 12, 2012
The Trees of Life is not a film for the average audience. Most people would probably hate it. But Terrence Malick has outdone himself- the cinematography is fabulous, and the story is simple yet touching,
May 12, 2012
Rise of the Planet of the Apes7
May 12, 2012
Rise of the Planet of the Apes redefines the franchise that began with Charlton Heston. It begins with the science of simian development, continues with a bond between man and ape, and ends with and incredible conflict, both physical and emotional. Fantastic.
May 12, 2012
Green Lantern6
May 12, 2012
Ryan Reynolds dons a green energy suit and defends Earth from outer space giant alien heads and a crazy scientist? Okay. Not perfect. But its fun all the same, and what superhero movie isn't?
May 11, 2012
The Prestige8
May 11, 2012
The Prestige combines a passionate rivalry between two magicians with the elusive art of magic itself, and voila! the world has another masterpiece by Christopher Nolan. Brilliant.
May 11, 2012
Saints and Soldiers7
May 11, 2012
Saints and Soldiers isn't the greatest war film by a long shot- Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers guaranteed that. But it does give the audience an insider's viewpoint to the soldier's struggle with his faith, his freedom, and war itself.
May 11, 2012
Secret Window7
May 11, 2012
Although the film starts out with a fairly simple and seemingly innocent premise, Secret Window is no doubt one of the most twisting and chilling Stephen King stories ever brought to screen.
May 11, 2012
Invictus8
May 11, 2012
Clint Eastwood dramatizes the true story of Nelson Mandela's unique method of uniting his country- through a South African team's victory in Rugby's World Cup. Brilliant performances by Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, masterfully directed by Clint Eastwood. Superb.
May 10, 2012
Contagion8
May 10, 2012
Contagion is a blend of horror, thriller, and suspense, and in combining theses genres it tells a unique story that shows the viewpoints of different people suffering the epidemic, giving the audience an excellent understanding of how a similar disasters affect the world at large.
May 8, 2012
Warrior8
May 8, 2012
Warrior tells one of the oldest stories in history: a family torn apart that has to reconcile with each other. However, when combining that with the fact that both brothers are mixed martial artists, director Gavin O'Connor presents something else entirely. Absolutely fantastic.
May 8, 2012
The Mask7
May 8, 2012
The Mask is an explosively fun and hilarious film filled with cheesy and comical scenes that you just can't help laughing at. "Tell Scarlet I DO give a damn!"
