Ouch, this movie is painful to watch. Some laughs from Nolte, but Redford is DOA. Do not go see this movie if you are under 45. This one is strictly for the oldies. It was a sea of white hair in the audience. The cinematography is totally uninspired. If anyone wants to hike the Appalachian, this movie will not inspire you. The special effects of the (fake) snow storm were mid-90s bad. The encounters along the journey were contrived: hitchhiking with drunk newly-engaged rednecks; falling off a cliff; the "bears in the camp" scene. Again, some mild chuckles to be had. I would wait and rent the DVD to watch on Thanksgiving Day with Grandma and Grandpa. Now that I think about it, Redford is 80. Bryson was 50 when he did the trip. Redford may be the only reason this movie got produced but I wish he would've taken his ego out of it and stayed behind the camera. Woulda been much better to show a younger old man, than a painfully old man.

Love this film. I highly recommend it. Beautifully written, filmed and acted. Very human and often very funny. Lots of LOLs from me and everyone around us. If you consider yourself prude, don't go see it. If you judge people--in real life and/or in fiction--don't go see it. It's that simple. The film is not transcendent or even that deep. But the subject matter is dark, and I think the creators hit the perfect tone. There is absolutely nothing cynical about this film. Told from the girl's point of view, it's simply the true story of a lonely 15-year-old girl who loves to draw and LOVES to have a lot of consensual sex with her mother's pathetic 35-year-old boyfriend. Will she change? I already told you this isn't a cynical film. I understand it'll be impossible for many people to separate the (illegal) deed from the brilliantly told story, so I'll address this review to people who are on the fence (because open-minded people will see it and judgmental people won't): If you think you'd like to see this film, but you're not sure? Go see it. Don't be scared away. Yes, the material is a little uncomfortable at first--and I'm a dirty freak (whoa, where'd that come from?)--but take a couple of breaths like I did, and remember that this is a true story. Enjoy the honesty. Enjoy the non-judgment. Enjoy some empathy. There's so much cynicism on tv and on the internet. You deserve a break. Go see this movie and show yourself some love.

Kristen is the new queen of try-too-hard quirky indie comedy. This film is dishonest. I know people will like this film and I can only speak for myself, but unfortunately for me, this film doesn't feel genuine. I either believe a film or I don't and I didn't believe for a second that this woman was real. Kristen in a lemon chiffon dress and heels with a purple fanny pack eating string cheese? Like I said, she's trying way too hard.

To be fair, I didn't watch the movie because I couldn't get past the opening credits with that horrible song. Shame, because I really wanted to see some comedy and Ashely Greene, but again, that song, with the horrible disco beat and the David Byrne-esque cries. Yikes.

First of all, what a great New York postcard. I was lucky enough to live there once upon a time (for 5 years); and this is the first New York City romcom in a long time that has actually made me miss Manhattan. Secondly, pay no heed to the review by **** FamilyGuy117 below. This is a great romcom. Definitely not without it's faults: A handful of clunky jokes. At the 3/4 mark, it drags. A lot of the cameos were underwhelming and the magazine article story was underdeveloped. But man, Amy is a genius and the jokes are often pitch perfect. This film will be divisive as Amy Schumer, the force, is divisive. Chauvinistic men who think women can't be funny will hate this film when they go with their girlfriends to see it. And they'll definitely hate all male nudity in it. In FamilyGuy117's review below, he basically calls her a disease-infested ****. Funny, he's probably never had a problem with all the male-centric comedies where the protagonists **** their ways through scenes filled with gratuitous **** and full-frontal female nudity. But now that the tables are turned? Suddenly he "needs a shower" after watching this one! Which makes him a double ****. ****! ****! Seriously though, so many good laughs in this film. Physical comedy. Cerebral comedy. And yes, toilet humor including a (bloody) funny tampon joke. This is Judd Apatow after all, who has given us lots of dude-centric ****, **** and piss jokes over the years. So what. This film won't be for everyone. Especially not for male chauvinists. But it was for me! Can't wait to see it again.
