Alien: Isolation

I had been looking forward to Alien Isolation even before i saw the first two films in the Alien series. the game looked absolutely terrifying from what i saw in press videos and demos, so i was highly anticipating it. though, at the same time, i was a bit skeptical, since most Alien games beforehand didn't get good reception at all, especially Colonial Marines almost two years ago. I can safely say, however, that Alien Isolation is one of the best horror games I've ever played. From the moment I started the game, i knew i was in for a great experience, from the beginning to see how barren and atmospheric the Sevastopol station was, to my first encounter with the Alien. The gameplay is top-notch here. The atmosphere is nailed perfectly and captures the mood of the original Alien film effortlessly, not to mention its art design is absolutely perfect as well, and looks exactly like the style of the original films. The thought of having limited supplies was dreadful to me, as i had to constantly stockpile items in fear that i'd lose them. I was always afraid i'd have to use them on other humans to get rid of them, waste even more to fight working Joes, but worst of all, ward off the Xenomorph that can't be killed. The Alien creature in this game is easily the best part of the game. Its A.I. is incredibly smart, constantly on the lookout, and you never know when it'll strike next. I can't count how many times i hid in the same spot for nearly 20 minutes just so i didn't have to look at the alien. Each level became a tense experience for me because i never knew when anything was going to find me or going to strike at me. Combine this with excellent lighting effects, slick graphics, and its already established atmosphere, and you're in for one of the most dreadful games you'll ever play. The story, while entertaining, isn't much to write home about. The writing can be pretty good at times, but there's times where i felt the story dragged a bit. And some scenes felt like they were only put in there for fanservice, which is nice for Alien fans like me, but can still pad out game time. And the ending isn't all that great either. Even without knowing what really happens to Amanda Ripley in the extended version of Aliens, the game ends very abruptly, and i couldn't believe it had just ended right there. However, the ending isn't the worst aspect of Alien: Isolation- the worst part is the save system. this game doesn't auto save, and there are not that many save stations available at your disposal. On one hand, this adds to the tension, as you really don't want to start a whole section over, but at the same time, this adds frustration to the game, and can really take away from the experience. This issue aside, i can't deny that Alien Isolation is an excellent game. It has a great atmosphere, amazing A.I., great lighting and graphics, a good story, and excellent horror gameplay.

Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed is no doubt my favorite video game franchise, and this game is no exception. Well... mostly no exception. The story for this game is half and half for me. one on side, Conner's story is great. It isn't the best the series has written, but it's still nice. I found it really surprising that Haytham was actually a Templar. I think this was an awesome plot twist, and I think Ubisoft should actually do more with playing as Templars. As for Conner's ending, it's alright. I felt that it ended to abruptly, but it isn't the worst ending; i'll get to that. On the other hand, we have Desmond's story, which is the WORST in the series. Like the other Desmond stories, while it's acted well, it's completely unneeded, and doesn't make sense whatsoever. and what I said about AC's worst ending? Desmond's ending in this game has to be one of the worst endings in video game history. I won't spoil it, but I will say that it reflects how useless Desmond's story really is. Now onto the gameplay. this game adds up a lot more mechanics, but I have one problem with them: the overworld. the overworlds in this game are absolutely HUGE. I find myself constantly fast traveling, and also ignoring side objectives and little extras. Basically, my problem is that the worlds are too big: they break the flow of the game, and make the replayability matter less. heck, I barely touched view points in this game, which I always did in previous games. Though the combat still manages to stay fresh, and much better thanks to additions such as arms and muskets. Something that really surprised me was the graphics in the game. the environments are surprisingly beautiful, and even more so, this game has a surprisingly fast frame rate. I loved this, as it made the control in the game feel much more tweaked and fluent. But by far the best aspect of the game is Multiplayer. Multiplayer is addicting and fun, and the gamemodes, level system, and maps are great. Overall, ACIII is a great addition to the series. Desmond's story may be awful, and the huge worlds may take away from the game, but thanks to Conner's story, improved gameplay, and epic Multiplayer, this is a great game that I recommend you pick up.

Assassin's Creed II took a formula **** new IP and made it even better. It really did. everything about this game is great. The huge upgrades from the last game to this one are absolutely tremendous. This game focused more on adding numerous elements to gameplay, while also having one of the best stories and characters of any game I've played. The journey Ezio Auditore goes on to becoming an Assassin is a great example of how to develop a character. Throughout playing the game, you connect with Ezio in his situations, like when his father and brothers are murdered. You begin to care for him and his quest, as with all the other characters. As for Desmond... I never really liked Desmond's side of the story, but this game probably has the best story involving him, mainly because the growth between Desmond and Lucy, and his growth with the other characters, Shaun and Rebecca. The gameplay, like I mentioned, adds tremendously onto the last game, but it doesn't to the extent that it's too overwhelming, like Assassin's Creed III. Each area is big, but not too big, which adds the sense that makes each area confined. And thanks to elements such as buying armor and weapons, the combat system has improved a great amount. The control for the game is much better this time around. Ezio maneuvers much faster than Altair, and it makes the control faster and fluent. The soundtrack is great for this game. every track is beautifully composed, and fits perfectly with each area and scene. Overall, Assassin's Creed II steals the spot for my all-time favorite video game. It's perfectly written, has better control, better gameplay mechanics, more gameplay mechanics, pretty much more and better of everything.

I was hyped when I first heard about a Sonic RPG. I thought it would be pretty cool, especially since it was being made by Bioware. but I had NO IDEA it would come out in this form. the story is probably one of the worst in the Sonic series. it feels like Bioware wanted to take a really bad Sonic fan fiction and turn it into a game. Heck, I’ve read Sonic fan fictions that I thought were miles better than this plot. the gameplay is very bland in this title. you constantly have to use the stylus in the game and it feels unnatural for a Sonic game. the combat can be downright annoying at times. the way the combat In this game is handled is seriously terrible, as you can't really plan what to do. when an attack or defense command is hit, that character must do that for each remaining turn, where items and POW moves take up one slot at a time. this makes the game seriously unbalanced with gameplay. the graphics are terrible. the character models look really clustered up, and don't fit in well with a 2D environment. the soundtrack is the absolute worst in the series, and worst part about the game. each track sounds distorted and annoying, and sounds like a terrible collection of 16-bit music. Overall, what can I say about Sonic Chronicles- the story sounds like poorly written fan fiction, the gameplay is unbalanced and unnatural, and the soundtrack will want you to turn off the game.

I love the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. so when this title was announced, I was stoked. And when I got it, I played the best game in the Mystery Dungeon series, and even Pokémon overall. The story of the game is pretty lighthearted, and may have been aimed for kids, but I still found it enjoyable. this game's ending was also one of the few times where I cried at the ending. the gameplay is the same, but adds some new things to make gameplay faster. for example, instead of scrolling through menus to use moves, you can now just hold down the right trigger and press A,B,X,Y to use that respective move. it's tweaks to the gameplay like these that make the game much better. the graphics are really nice. they may just be my favorite graphics on any game. The music is really great. I found myself humming these tunes, and while some tracks are forgettable, I find this to be one of my favorite game soundtracks. but what I found to be the game's best part was, surprisingly, character development. I found myself caring for these characters, and was happy when they were, or sad when they were. I don't think I've cared much for characters like these since the Walking Dead: the game, and that's saying A LOT. Overall, Gates to Infinity is a worthy title to the 3DS library. the plot may be lighthearted, but the gameplay, while simple, is great, and combined with great music and character development, this makes it my personal favorite Pokémon title, and one you should definitely check out.

Boy, is this game addicting. I only recently got into the Harvest Moon series; this is my first game. And I can say that this is a series that I'm going to love. Since this is a simulator, the plot is non-existent. The premise is that Echo Town is failing and you have to bring it back on top. While I do think they could've worked with this plot a bit more, it seems pretty okay. But it means nothing with the gameplay. I didn't think a farming game could be so addicting. I'm always constantly working on my farm and town, and progressing and getting the town and farm bigger. I love the feeling of getting progressively stronger, and this game shines in that. Heck, this is the first game where I had to take notes just so I knew what I had to do. Other small concepts in the game I like a lot. marriage, for example, I find really cool to add. it's these little things in the game that add to the already huge replay ability. The graphics are pretty good. The 3D on the game is ok at best, but I usually prefer not putting 3D on at all. Something I found a bit irritating was the music. the music isn't the best, and it gets repetitive that it plays on loop. Something I was surprised about was caring for the characters in the game. I always felt like I should talk to them and give them gifts, because I wanted some friends in the game. I didn't think I should be alone in this game, and I think that's a huge pointer of the game. Overall, I chose right with getting into the Harvest Moon series and getting this game. the plot may be barely existent, and the music can be annoying, but the addictive gameplay, little things added to the game, and good character development make this a worthwhile title.

I really love the Splinter Cell games. and after playing through Conviction multiple times, I can say this is my favorite Splinter Cell game. The story is very well written. I found myself wanting to find out more as the story progressed, and I felt bad for Sam Fisher in emotional moments. the gameplay is as great as always, but some changes to it I'm not a big fan of that much. the way you can now move around stealthily is when the screen turns black and white. no sound meter, no HUD, just staying in darkness makes you mostly invisible. I don't see why they abandoned things like the goggles and sound meters, but this change for the game is ok at best. The game controls very nicely; possible one of the best games I've controlled. the soundtrack is pretty good. some tunes are pretty catchy, but nothing stands out, making the soundtrack very forgettable. the graphics are among the best I've seen in a video game. the character models look very impressive, and environments in the game look beautiful. the voice acting in the game is great. all the actors do excellent as usual in this game, and even some new ones do their performances very well, giving this game excellent presentation. there is also co-op in this game, but honestly, I didn't bother as much with this. the co-op is very chaotic at times, since you have to help each other, and it gets more chaotic when split screen is enabled. Overall, Splinter Cell: Conviction is a great stealth game. the story is among the best I've seen, the gameplay, while kind of a downgrade, is still tons of fun, and the presentation of the game is excellent.

PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure

May 27, 2013
I was hoping that a game starring Pikachu would be pretty good one. instead, I played a fairly decent title. The story for the game is very simple. You never get any other twists or turns in the story, it remains the same as you go throughout the game. I do like playing games with simple stories, but this one feels a little too simple, since nothing else happens. the gameplay for this game I'll say is passable. this game has a heavy focus on its mini-games, so important Pokémon aspects, like battling, become such little things. this game really wants you to make new friends in the park and then use them in mini-games. I don't feel that this is natural for a Pokémon game, but I'll let it pass, since this is the first in a spin-off series. the control isn't all that good for the game. moving Pikachu around with the Wiimote sideways gets finicky at times, and I wish the game could have supported other controller options. the soundtrack is ok at best. most tunes are easily forgettable, and even then, each tune ranges from decent to mediocre. the graphics are actually pretty good. each character looks like they've been ripped from the anime into the game, and even has its anime voice actors(who also do a good job). My complaints with the game is repetitiveness, dialogue, and its difficulty. the dialogue can be a bit confusing sometimes, and even in a few cases there are typos in the dialogue, some not even fixed yet. as for repetitiveness, I'm mainly talking about the mini-games that occur when getting new friends. you have to either play tag with them, hide and seek, or battle them. as much as I love to battle in the game, it gets repetitive very easy, as there are about 100 friends to befriend here, and to do these mini-games about 33 times each, no thanks. Lastly, I felt that the game was way too easy. Nintendo obviously wanted to appeal to casual gamers, and that's very evident I this game. Pokémon games should be able to keep their simple nature while giving challenge once in a while. Overall, PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure is a decent game. its simple nature and gameplay can be great for casual gamers, but its difficulty and repetitiveness can be a shut-off to some Pokémon fans.

I don't remember how I came across this game, but I do remember it was when I was doing something involving Dinosaurs. this game, look pretty bad just by the cover, but trust me, it actually has a lot of entertainment going for it. The story is the worst aspect of the game. it seems pretty far out there, and was probably just an excuse so you could kill dinosaurs. there are also a few plotholes in the game, like what exactly the "Time Vortex" is. but thankfully, the gameplay is great and stomps out the bad story. I usually hate it when a shooter doesn't take a risk and tries some new enemies instead of humans, and this game does well with the fact that you fight dinosaurs. I don't think I've ever had more fun in a game than killing dinosaurs. It's just simply awesome, complete with one boss soundtrack. the graphics, even for a Wii game, are ok at best: the character models look like they were made for the Play Station, but the dinosaurs actually look very well done, which I think is what this game was going for. But there are some other problems with the game. for one, the voice acting is horrendous. none of these people did a good job on voicing the characters. I also feel like the characters were very bland, with little to no development whatsoever. I'm all about focusing a game on dinosaurs, but they should have tried to develop the characters a bit more. One thing that absolutely confused me was the fact that giant scorpions were enemies in the game. How is this logical at all, for both the game and real life? If the game wanted to focus on you fighting dinosaurs, these shouldn't have been incorporated into the game. Overall, Jurassic: the Hunted is a pretty enjoyable game. The story may be a turn off to some with its plotholes, but the addicting gameplay and great soundtrack add up to make an fps on the Wii that actually works. And for the Wii, that's saying a lot.

If there's one FPS series I love, it's Medal of Honor. so when I found out about the reboot, I didn't know what to think. little did I know this reboot would actually be pretty good. the story for the game is nice. this game manages to modernize Medal of Honor while also keeping it in the past, and the writing is pretty decent. the gameplay is standard FPS gameplay. with gameplay like this, there isn't much to talk about, except the graphics make it look nice. even though single player doesn't use frostbite, the graphics look pretty good. why EA chose to use frostbite for the multiplayer only, I guess we'll never know. the music is ok at best. most tunes are forgettable, and aren't that catchy. However, the theme song, The Catalyst, sung by Linkin Park, is one of my favorite songs by the band. Something I didn't like about this game was the lighting. I usually don't complain about lighting in anything unless it's distracting or glaring. in this game, it's both. The lighting can either make things too dark or too bright in the environment, which is really bad during firefights. it may be because I haven't really figured out what brightness setting is best for the game, but I find myself going back to adjust it many times. another bland thing about the game is the multiplayer. the multiplayer has little customization for classes, and not many game modes. to charge an online pass for this is not worth it at all. Overall, Medal of Honor is an ok reboot to a great series. the single player is fun, but the multiplayer is not. the graphics are great, but the lighting is not. if you're a fan of FPS games and looking for spare time to kill, give this game a try.

May 26, 2013
I like the Kirby games. the gameplay is fun and simple, while also keeping things challenging, not to mention how awesome characters like Kirby and Meta Knight are. Epic Yarn, however, I found to be way too simple and cute. the story, like most Kirby games, is pretty simple. it is a pretty enjoyable story, and manages to be pretty funny at times. The gameplay, shortened to the point, has been butchered to be way too easy. Kirby can do things in the environment, like become a car, or use an ability meant for a certain area, like a tank. this is a pretty cool concept, but the problem with it s that you can't die in the game. beads, which determine your score at the end of the stage, are lost every time you fall into a it or get hit by an enemy, making it impossible to lose this game. I can see Nintendo making Kirby a bit easier, but here, it's way too easy. the graphics for the game are pretty nice. the environments and colors for this game shine, making it one of the nicest looking games on the Wii. the soundtrack for the game is very lighthearted. all the tracks in the game sound very cute, almost a bit too cute. tunes in Kirby could give a great beat and rhythm while also sounding cute, but here, being cute is all it sounds like. if there's one thing I cannot stand in this game, it's Prince Fluff. he's such an unneeded character in the game, and is seriously bland in general. In the End, Kirby's Epic Yarn is a good game, just probably not for Kirby fans. while it can be enjoyable with its story and dialogue, it can be a shut off for some by being too cute or too easy. if you're trying to get into the Kirby series, start with this one. just be prepared for the challenge other Kirby games will have.

I didn't entirely enjoy the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. the same can also be said for this version of the video game. the story of the game is like taking the movie plot and excluding the human characters. while it is better than the movie plot, it isn't by much. in the end, the plot is kind of bland. the gameplay acts like a blend of beat-em-up and shoot-em-up. and it's actually pretty cool. the combat is pretty good, though it can get repetitive when all you're doing is swinging the Wiimote and nunchuk like an idiot. the graphics for the game, at least for a Wii game, are passable. character models and environments are pretty well done, and are impressive for a Wii game. This game also has its share of issues, the main problem being the camera. the camera is constantly shifting and zooming in and out, and you can't do anything about it. this seriously gets in the way when in combat, especially during the boss fights. another problem is the environments. most of the time, environments are too dark, and seriously get in the way of progression sometimes. the sections where you take control of a vehicle are pretty bland. these try to go for a rail shooter kind of gameplay, but it's seriously boring in these sections. In the end, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a pretty boring game. while the gameplay is neat, it becomes hard to have fun with it thanks to dark environments, camera issues, and repetitiveness.

Sonic Colors was the game that brought me back to the series. when I played this game, I knew Sonic's reign of bad games had come to an end. The story for the game is simple. while I love this in a sonic game, I can't help but feel it's too simple. many things in the game are left unanswered, and feels like an excuse to get modern and classic sonic together. but the story means nothing with addicting gameplay like this. classic stages keep all the physics and fun of the original genesis games. sure, the control isn't exactly like the genesis days, but still feels very fluent. Modern stages are just as fun. the game takes the unleashed formula once again, and feels smoother thanks to the better frame rate. The graphics for the game are among the most beautiful I've ever seen in a game. each zone does their reincarnations very well with graphics. along with that, each stage has good level design. The soundtrack, like most Sonic games, is awesome. both original and remixed tunes are catchy, and it becomes even better when you find out you can switch the song in a stage to one of the ones unlocked. This game falls flat in 2 areas, however: boss battles and missions. the boss battles are short, both in length and numbers. I would have liked more of a variety of bosses in the game. the final boss, which I won't spoil, is the worst part of the game. you have no idea what is going on the whole time, and the controls constantly fight you here. and it doesn't help that Sonic's friends are constantly babbling. the side missions in the game add to the replay value, but are bland in the end. each one is either too easy or too difficult, and shouldn't be bothered with, except for the times when it's required in order to progress. Overall, Sonic Generations is a great game. the gameplay has twice the fun with both gameplay styles, the graphics are beautiful, and the soundtrack is the biggest one in years.

Usually I think the most important aspect **** is the gameplay. but thanks to the Walking Dead by Telltale, I now know excellent story and character development can make this a little thing. the story for the game is one of the best I've seen in any game. The optional choices and multiple pathways to choose add to the replay ability, and you will want to play it again thanks to this game's excellent character development. this game has some of the best character development in any game I've played. As you go along with the story, you'll find yourself caring about the characters more and more, as if they were real people, especially Lee, Clementine, and Kenny. the gameplay is simple. Point and click games are usually a turn off to me, but that didn't matter because I wanted to play this because of the story progressing. it may be simple, but as I said before, Telltale managed to show that gameplay doesn't always have to be the most important aspect. the graphics are very artistic in this game. everything looks like a comic book coming to life. doing graphics like this can be pretty hard, but this game manages to pull it off. the soundtrack or the game is actually my least favorite part about the game. while they do capture the emotion of a scene perfectly, the tracks are forgettable, and honestly, kind of bland. Overall, I think the Walking Dead is worthy of all the praise it's gotten. the story is the best in any video game I've played, the branching pathways lead to tons of replay value, and the character development will have you wishing these characters were real.

I really wanted to like this game. I really, REALLY wanted to like it. to play another game where your enemies are dinosaurs sounded awesome to me, but this game manages to fail at what it does. first off, the story, while interesting, is pretty bland. the Turok series has more of a sci-fi approach this time, which would be cool if this concept wasn't constantly milked in most FPS games. the gameplay isn't that good either. the control for the game makes playing the game a bit confusing, and this game has tons and tons of difficulty spikes. this is mainly because one of your enemies in Turok is military soldiers. MILITARY SOLDIERS in a TUROK game. these enemies appear more often than dinosaurs, and it really drains the fun of killing dinosaurs that Turok games should have. The music for the game isn't that good. nothing in the soundtrack stands out, and I find myself always forgetting these tunes. the graphics are passable. all environments are pretty, and the character models look nice. my only complaint is that the dinosaurs look a bit too glaring, especially raptors, which look like plastic at times. As mentioned before, this game has numerous difficulty spikes, even on the easiest difficulty. this game will kick you in the butt if you're not prepared, as numerous parts of the game involve fighting too many enemies at once, or getting shot at from all angles. If one thing is good about the game, it's the voice acting. the voice acting, while not suberb, does a decent job at this game. the voices fit for each character, especially Turok. In the end, Turok is not that great ****. its story is bland, the gameplay is a shut off thanks to there being military factions, and its difficulty spikes make Turok not an enjoyable game.

The story for the game is great. tying in the story with the create-a-bot manages to work, and is well written in general. the gameplay is pretty fun. the combat and open-world roaming is pretty cool to do, and with numerous vehicles to choose from and scan, the replay value is big in this game. the graphics are pretty cool for a ds game. each bot looks well done, though the environments clearly show that they're on the ds, as you can see where points and edges of floors are. the voice acting is surprisingly very clear, especially for a ds game, and each person's voice work fits perfectly with each character. the music is also excellent, fitting perfectly with the Decepticons. my man problem with the game is glitches. there are some ways where it is very easy to make a glitch occur, and this sometimes gets bothersome. I love the Percy Jackson books. the movie? not so good, so I wasn't expecting this game to be that good. surprisingly, I ended up playing a licensed game better than its movie. the plot, surprisingly, follows the book more than the movie does. it includes much more from the book than the movie, like the three furies at the bus stop, or Ares playing a part. it isn't exactly like the book, but still does a better job than the movie. the gameplay is... different. it blends tactical and turn-based rpg elements to make up a great gameplay mechanic. it's very fun, and I love the feeling of leveling up my team and unlocking new things. the soundtrack is pretty enjoyable. I can't remember some tracks, but for the most part, it's memorable. the graphics are probably the game's worst part. the character models and backgrounds look incredibly bland, and the fact that some older games have better graphics is just sad. another problem is sound effects. the sound effects sound distorted,, and can get pretty annoying at times. Because of Sonic's rough times in the 2000s, I thought Sonic may be over soon. but when I played Sonic Colors, I knew his reign of horror was over. The story is quite simple; probably one of the most simple in any Sonic game. but it also manages to tie things together so that it doesn't stay too simple. this is just the way I like it in a sonic game, and I'm glad this plot wasn't as involved as previous ones. The gameplay is really great. While it is much like Daytime Stages from Unleashed, this game is full of just those stages, and I love it. though I can't help but complain that the zones are adding more acts for filler. about 2 or 3 acts will be within a reasonable stage time, while others range from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. but at least the soundtrack when I play these stages is great. Color's soundtrack is the best I have ever heard in any game. each tune fits perfectly with each zone, and I could easily remember what each zone sounds like. The new voice direction is great too. I found it pretty cool that Ezio Auditore is now voicing Sonic, and Tails' new voice actor fits perfectly. Dr. Eggman has his same voice actor, who still does Eggman excellent as always. The graphics are, like the title says, colorful. I must say all the colors make it some of the best graphics on the Wii. The Wisps, while a great concept, are probably my least favorite part about the game. each one feels like it's being milked constantly so that you always need to use it, and I don't understand why sonic can't do things like the lightspeed dash or spin dash, but can do them with certain wisp powers. The only one I really like is the drill, which helps when you go underwater. I love the fact that Sonic can now swim again. after being unable to swim for years, it's great to see water stages again, and this time, they aren't as hard as previous water stages thanks to the drill. A new aspect introduced in this game is red rings, which, when collected, unlock stages in the sonic simulator. the sonic simulator itself is kind of bland, along with its multiplayer, but it's the only way to get chaos emeralds, which, when all red rings and chaos emeralds are collected, allow access to super sonic. I haven't unlocked this yet, since there are so many red rings, but the fact that super sonic can now play freely in 3D stages is really awesome. In the end, Sonic Colors is not only my favorite Sonic game, but one of the best games I have ever played. while some fans say Sonic will eventually revive, or say it has been revived, I say this game brought Sonic back on top, and I would definitely recommend it to any Sonic fan.

Not that many FPS games do that well on the Wii. But there are some exceptions, and Goldeneye 007 is one of them. The story for this game is the same as the movie, so what can I say: it's the same good story with a fresh coat of paint. I was skeptical at first on how the Wii was going to handle gameplay like this with Wiimotes and nunchuks, but somehow, it manages to work in this game. the gameplay is pretty addicting too: I like how I can choose to either take out my enemies stealthily or go into a firefight with them. The voice acting in the game is great; Daniel Craig and Judi Dench do an excellent job as Bond and M like always, and the other actors cast do very well with their performances. The multiplayer is pretty cool as well. in all honesty, the only thing I didn't like about local multilayer was that some areas would be sealed off, but open in online multiplayer. As for online multiplayer, it's does fairly well, but isn't real fun, since the friend system requires the whole "Friend Code" thing, and no voice chat supporting the game baffles me. There were some aspects, however, that I did not like as much. The graphics are ok, but sometimes look a bit glaring. I find myself lost sometimes because of really dark or really bright areas. other than that, character models and settings look very nice for a Wii game. Overall, the game is a nice remake that I believe manages to improve on single player, but not so much in multiplayer. if you're going to get this for the multiplayer, forewarning: it won't be as fun as the original N64 game. if you're looking for a better single player, I'd recommend this game.

I've had my share of bad Sonic games: Sonic 06, Shadow the Hedgehog, even Sonic Heroes wasn't that good to me. But none of them come as close as this abomination of a Sonic game. The plot for the game is very far out there: I've seen pretty crazy concepts for plots before, but nothing like Sonic going into a story book to save the Arabian Nights. The new characters in here are just as bad. Shahra is very poorly developed, and Erazor is one of the worst villains I've ever seen in a video game. the gameplay doesn't help either. It gets very repetitive when all Sonic can do is go constantly forward, and go left and right in a straight pattern, and the control use of turning the wiimote forward and sideways to move around feels extremely unnatural. The graphics, even for an early wii game, aren't that great at all. the characters look like plastic, and the environments look very bland. Another thing I absolutely hate is party mode. the party mode in this game tries so hard to be a Mario party clone, and it fails terribly at that. Even with all these things, however, there is one thing I can say is fairly decent about the game: the soundtrack. Most Sonic games have soundtracks ranging from good to amazing, and this one is no exception. I don't really like the main theme of the game, but everything else about the game is pretty catchy. But even with a good soundtrack, Sonic and the Secret Rings manages to fail terribly on story, gameplay, and control. this is by far the worst Sonic game I've ever played, and I highly recommend staying away from it.

I like kart games. I like the Madagascar films. Seemed like it was perfect to blend the two together, right? WRONG. The kart gameplay is seriously boring. I know kart games have the same kind of gameplay usually, but it seems like this one is ripping off good kart games like Mario kart. even its power-ups do this. the power-ups and the way they are used look like they've been ripped right out of Mario kart and sonic all stars racing. The controls are very finicky in this game. I find myself going way to out of control and doing constant "barrel rolls of death", or a way that seriously slows you down. The character roster isn't that good. this game is based on Madagascar, yet half of its characters are from other dreamworks movies, like shrek and monsters vs. aliens. Why was this necessary with a MADAGASCAR game? But the absolute worst part of the game is the dialogue. all the characters sound a bit distorted, and each character tries so hard to use slapstick in an attempt to make the game "funny". None of the jokes are funny. none of the dialogue sounds good, or even bland. it's just plain bad. Even the graphics are pretty bad, even for a wii game. I've seem better graphics in Mario Kart, or even Sonic All Stars racing, which was released the same year. Overall, what can I say about this game: it tries so hard to be funny, and the gameplay seemingly rips off other popular kart games. Do yourself a favor: Never touch this game. EVER.

Prince of Persia is a great series. the original games are pretty cool, and the sands of time games are my favorites in the series. But did anyone, ANYONE, ask for a reboot? I know I didn't. The story for the game is probably the best aspect of the game. It is very well written, and I found myself surprised that I cared for the characters. The gameplay actually isn't that great. most of the time, you're just climbing around areas, trying not to die(Which you cannot do, as Elika will always save the Prince.), which gets real boring, and the combat was very minimal and bland. The graphics for the game are nice. the many colors in the world make the world of this game feel alive, and you feel like you want to help a corrupted environment. the soundtrack is ok at best. Most tracks are forgettable, but some, like the main theme, will be ones that get stuck in your head. one aspect that turned me off of Prince of Persia is the orb collecting. there are so many orbs to collect, and after flag collecting in Assassin's Creed, I really didn't want to bother. The problem here, however, is that a certain number of orbs are required to continue the game. This was what shut me down on Prince of Persia for a couple months. Another poor aspect is voice acting. the main characters, The Prince and Elika, are well developed, but their voice actors, or anyone else, don't seem to fit the part for me. Overall, Prince of Persia is a reboot that wasn't needed. the story and graphics are nice, but the gameplay, a game's most important aspect, is seriously boring, the voice acting wasn't that good, and the combat is bland. If you like the Prince of Persia series, I wouldn't recommend this title.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

When Black Ops II was announced, I didn't know what to think. another sequel in CoD, and another one taking place in the future? I was skeptical at first, but when I actually played it, I realized my original thoughts on the game all turned out to be opposite. The gameplay is the same as always, but some aspects of the campaign add to the mix. The campaign is actually the best part about the game. The story is well-written, and I say it's story is up there with CoD4. I like how you can now customize a class before starting a campaign mission. the access kit perk you can get is pretty nice, as it adds the sense of nonlinear gameplay, which is something I really like. The strike force missions, however, are one of the game's worst aspects. I didn't like the fact that RTS missions were in a game like Call of Duty, but the way the Strike force missions are set up is downright confusing. Unless you're going for the best ending of the game, ignore all of these missions. Black Ops II is the first to feature multiple endings. While I wasn't anticipating this to work, especially for Call of Duty, Treyarch manages to make it work just fine. The multiplayer is just like previous titles, with a level 55 cap before reaching prestige. the new game modes add to the fun, but I usually don't play multiplayer that often. That's because of the worst aspect of the game: the Pick 10 System. The Pick 10 system is terrible; I don't understand why the classes are now limited. Sure, there are more customization options, like the wildcards, but their effect doesn't matter when you reach the limit. It should have been like previous titles, and just have one or two wildcards. the custom classes were doing just fine in Black Ops, MW3, and even this game's singleplayer, so what happened here? The zombies mode, while good, isn't as good as previous zombie modes. the transit mode didn't entertain me that much, grief mode is a mess, and survival isn't as fun anymore since new gameplay options are being added. You may call adding new modes to zombies is a positive, but I usually don't like it when more things are added to something simple, like zombies. that may just be because I had a lot more enjoyment with past games than this one. Overall, Black Ops II isn't a bad game, just a decent, kind of bland one. The campaign will have you playing it again thanks to nonlinear gameplay, the multiplayer is butchered thanks to the Pick 10 System, and the zombies, while still enjoyable, doesn't seem as fun as past zombie modes. IF you're a CoD fan, you've probably already picked this up. If CoD doesn't interest you at al, this one won't change your mind.

I usually don't like licensed video games. but the transformers games, I usually find ranging from decent to perfect. in WFC's case, it's perfect. The story is very well written for the game. I liked going back to Cybertron and seeing this incarnation of how the Transformers left Cybertron. In all honesty, I find this plot more enjoyable than any of the movies, as much as I like the movies. Usually, I don't play 3rd person shooters, but WFC's gameplay is one of those TPS games that I really enjoy. The gameplay is simple and fun, and that's how I think gameplay in a Transformers game should be, not all kinds of combat and special moves. All WFC adds is special abilities only certain characters can do, and while these are helpful, I don't find myself using them that often, with the exception of the dodge attack. The graphics are very nice for a transformers game. it adds a lot more color then previous titles, but sometimes I feel like the graphics are done TOO well. Sometimes there may be spots where too much is happening in the background, and this is hard to pay attention to when you're in combat. The multiplayer is quite fun. My only real complaint is that there wasn't much customization for bots: just recoloring other transformers. Escalation is my favorite part of the game. I like many co-op survival games, like call of duty zombies or left 4 dead. Escalation is no exception. Its gameplay is addicting, and I'm constantly trying to get more points to survive. Overall, Transformers: War for Cybertron is one of those rare licensed games that really works. The story is great, the graphics are beautiful, and escalation mode adds a lot to the fun afterwards. This is one game I recommend to anyone.

I first came across Assassin's Creed through Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed's spiritual successor. and when I played this game, I knew it took the prince of Persia formula and made it even better. The story for the game is half and half for me. The story of Altair is great. it manages to tie everything together, and the plot twist at the game actually surprised me a lot. Desmond's story, however, isn't that great. or good. This story is seriously not needed in every possible way, and why it was even created or affected the main storyline in the past will always be a mystery to me. The gameplay is pretty nice. the open-world roaming and combat are fun and addicting, and it definitely shows relation to Prince of Persia. though I sometimes thought Altair wasn't fast enough. his climbing felt very slow, and didn't seem to run that fast. the music in the game is decent, but isn't very memorable. the graphics for the game are great. for a game that came out almost 2 years in the 360's life span, the graphics are really nice, especially for the first in a series of games. I did notice a few issues with character models, like lip-syncing, but that was little. Something I found very enjoyable with the game was the voice acting. Altair's voice actor fits perfectly, along with characters like Al Mualim, Malik, and even Desmond. Side missions in the game are passable. some can be simple, like eavesdropping, and others can get repetitive, like killing certain targets to clear an assassin. this game also has replay elements. for example, all side missions must be completed to get a full sync in a memory sequence, or section of the game. unfortunately, that involves flag collecting, which is the worst part of the game. I'm all about having things in a game to add replay ability, but the flags are not a good way of showing it. There are hundreds and hundreds of flags to collect, and by the time I got 60 flags, I was shut off of flag collecting. Overall, Assassin's Creed is a great start to such an amazing series. the gameplay is awesome by taking elements from prince of Persia, the replay value is huge, and Altair's story is well-crafted. if you're a fan of action-adventure games, give Assassin's Creed a try. you may just end up loving it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

Ever since Sonic Colors, Sonic has been back on top. Lately, his games have been doing better than what he did during the 2000s decade. Sonic 4 episode 1 was a good game. Sonic Colors is my personal favorite Sonic game. Sonic Generations did great blending in classic and modern stages. next up in the line is Sonic 4 episode 2. Sonic 4 episode 1 was great, but this sequel manages to improve big aspects of the game, while others get a bit worse. The story keeps it simple like the previous games. No subplots or anything else, just a hedgehog trying to stop a doctor. I'm glad SEGA has realized that Sonic games do better with simpler stories, so it fits right in with this game. The co-op system in Episode 2 works just fine. Tails can fly and swim just well, and the spin attack, while great for getting past obstacles, seems like a bit **** breaker. The graphics are a HUGE upgrade from episode 1, and they look beautiful. Not as good as Sonic Generations, but still very well done for a downloadable **** controls are a lot smoother thanks to the improved physics engine. rolling as much more useful and Sonic won't stop immediately like he did in episode 1. The soundtrack for the game is decent. Some tunes are pretty catchy, with the exception of the pinch music that constantly plays during eggman boss fights. Some things, however, get progressively worse as you go along. the boss battles in the game aren't too impressive. While they are a lot more original bosses than episode 1, they seem very bland. The zones also aren't that original. they look like the zones from Sonic 2, with the exception of white park zone, which is somewhat original. But the absolute worst part of the game is the special stages. as if it wasn't bad enough that Sega is using the same half pipe stages AGAIN, the stages, especially the last 3 ones, take a lot of memorization. if you screw up too many times, you will have to start them all over again thanks to the numerous things that can assure you a failure. Overall, Sonic 4 Episode 2 is a decent game that should be checked out if you're a fan of platformers. if you liked episode 1, you'll probably like episode 2. if you didn't like episode 1, this episode may be the one you're looking for.

Cave Story for PC. This 2004 freeware game manages to excel in nearly every category it's in. The plot is amazing thanks to the well-crafted characters and presentation. The soundtrack is great and memorable, and the gameplay is the most unique that I have ever played. The graphics make the game a retro gamer's dream come true. The control for the game is excellent. All the keys respond well to button inputs and it feels natural for a PC platform game. The way to find health capsules, missile upgrades, new weapons, and story items feels especially great, making Cave Story feel a lot like Metroid, one of Cave Story's inspirations. As legendary as Cave Story is, I must admit it's only 99% perfect. The process of getting this can be frustrating with its logic and difficulty spike in the last area. However, it's all worth it when you get the best ending, or even the normal ending, which is just as satisfying. Another issue is backtracking. This game makes you backtrack to previous areas from time to time, and it can get repetitive at times. Best ending process and backtracking aside, Cave Story is a legendary game that should serve as inspiration for other indie games. With its legendary characters, story, gameplay, and soundtrack, I can easily say that the original Cave Story is the best game I have ever played, and I would definitely recommend it. In this review, I would also like to mention the ports of Cave Story I have played, rather than re-do an entire review on them. The Wiiware version of the game is great. the updated graphics and soundtrack are great, and the additional modes in the game make it a definitive version of Cave Story. if you liked the PC game, I highly recommend trying out the Wiiware version of the game. As for comparison to the PC, I prefer the original PC version, but that may be because it has a bit more of a nostalgic feel to me. but that's just my opinion. The 3DS E-Shop version is pretty good as well. this version meshes the additional modes from the dsiware and plus versions of the game. while I do like this, I can't help but feel the controls for the game can be a bit clunky at times. Aside from this, I think you should give this one a try. The 3DS retail version, surprisingly, is my least favorite port of the game. the way enhanced graphics are great, but I feel the game is nowhere near worth its price tag of $40. this version of the game only includes 1 additional mode, not counting the mode allowing you to turn on 2D character sprites. the game also made me really confused by adding brand new areas(no, I am not kidding). more life capsules and more missile upgrades have bee added to the game, making Cave Story in this port a lot easier. if you are looking for this port, try finding it for less than $20.
