The tightrope-walking of the final season--one that feels both deeply satisfying and yet totally true to its characters--is a thing of masterful beauty. As a whole, the season is funny, smart, and--sorry Jimmy & Gretchen--moving.

The bomb detonated at the end of Season 3 is still spraying shrapnel at all four parties, and what’s left if or when it’s done inflicting harm makes for an enticing, unpredictable adventure.

Not all of this season’s ideas are as successful. ... That’s not a fatal flaw in this kind of high-concept comedy, however, as long as the writing is imaginative and the performances snap. And 13 weeks from now, the landing is indeed stuck, in a finale that answers the questions and satisfies the emotions without short-selling the serious issues.

It all works. Jimmy and Gretchen are horrible people, but they are endearing in their congenital terribleness. They are unlovable, which makes them inherently lovable.

Watching the show's noxious and damaged narcissists slowly, credibly get over themselves remains an entertaining, worth project. But the start of season 3 isn't You're the Worst at its best. [2 Sept 2016, p.51]

You're the Worst exudes some charm (Cash is rich indeed) but can't keep from overstepping, either. It's saved by relationship detail and human vulnerability that "Married" utterly misses.

You're the worst, is simply the worst. The main characters are broken. The friends are codependent. "The people" are intolerable, and don't get me started on "the runners". This comedy-drama is a rom-com for the mentally ill and f-ed up people so naturally, it has a place in my heart. The character development, even in what were minor characters in the first few seasons is amazing to watch. Those you hate, you learn about and learn to love. As with most shows of a certain length, it gets mundane for a little while but luckily, it's not drained for all it's credit and the final season comes right as you want to tune out. The final season was great and the final episode a masterpiece making the whole journey worth it. It's ending has so far remained one of my favorite ends to a show ever, the monologue by Jimmy gives a send-off that is so fitting to the characters and the show that nothing further could have topped it.
