They've added a new element that makes it something I can finally (I'm sorry) sink my teeth into. They've added politics as blood sport.

Silly, gross, soapy, mysterious, intriguing, exotic, erotic True Blood is fun. Even more fun this season.

Sookie remains a compelling plucky heroine, undaunted by the violent strangeness of Bill's nighttime world but still holding fast to her moral center.

The curious thing about True Blood is that, even if you’re not that interested in their relationship, there are other things to enjoy, notably the supporting performances and the mostly efficient plotting.

True Blood also sometimes seems to have a cast of thousands, despite being set in a small town, so all sorts of subplots have been simmering. The show evolves, as it has before, by starting the new season with a few more. It's a little wearing sometimes, to be honest, though it has enough narrative strength to keep hard-core fans happy.

True Blood has never been a show with a conscience, so it's awkward watching it try to get one in a hurry.

The first four episodes of Season 5 find True Blood at its most directionless and meandering.

True Blood is a series which is an adaptation of “The Souther Vampires Mysteries” book series by Charlaine Harris. They follow loosely the story arcs of the books in the first seasons but abandon them later on. I mind not for most of the changes because they create good stories, character development and archive a good but different world building. There are two changes that I think harm the overall performance. They took out the conspiracy of the Vampire Kings/Queens against each other which lead to an interesting story arc in the books that had many impacts for the characters They chose an ending which angered many fans. Out of the many options they had they chose the worst (Maybe they want to defy expectations). Characters: I think the actors are well chosen and work well together. The interaction and the development is believable. World building / setting: They took much out of the books and improved it with own ideas. No complaints from my side in this department because most of it is really good. The world from the books and the series are both interesting a well crafted. Later on they create their own stories which I appreciate. Overall it is that kind of series that you can enjoy without knowledge of the books and still appreciate when you have read all of them with the exception of the ending of the final season for both cases.

I started watching True Blood this past weekend. I am at the end of season three right now. As a TV series in general, I have been enjoying True Blood, but mostly because it's one of the few, good, super natural / horror genres that were on TV at the time. With that being said, True Blood isn't without it's fair share of problems. Most of the characters are not simply stupid, but they are also generally unlikeable. I never found myself rooting for any particular character(s), while I often found myself wishing several of them dead. One interesting thing I've noticed is that most of the conflicts in the series are almost always directly the fault of at least one of the characters. Often times due to their aforementioned stupidity. There are far too many sex scenes in the series that have no place in the show, other than to be a gratuitous sex scene. There is far too much conflict. Every season, characters hardly have more than a day to rest and relax before some other stupid, horrible thing happens to them. Do these characters seriously not get a day off once in awhile? It's a little exhasuting to go from conflict to conflict without any sort of downtime, like a nice slice of life episode. At the end of the day, I feel like this is really just a sexy, vampire "All My Children". I feel like they could have done a better job, but it isn't like they failed.

It's a show that started out good, but then what the hell happened? Every season after season 1 is a sad joke that gets ultimately sadder until the final season, which, if you've watched it up until that point, you either have nothing better to do or are desperate for blood and nudity.

The dialogue is laughable at times. The acting is subpar with unlikable characters. I can't believe they made 7 seasons of this show.
