With expectations low, this Exorcist surprises with appealing leads, and--a big bonus point--the return to TV of Geena Davis.

The first installment of the drama does a truly impressive job of establishing a mournful atmosphere, as it sketches out an array of characters worth following on what promises to be a very challenging journey.

The TV version can’t quite go that far, at least not on a broadcast channel, but the special effects are convincing, and the script is a labyrinth of mystery and suspicion guaranteed to hold your interest.

We've seen these same tricks used to excess since then, and while they're applied competently here, they feel a bit old and lifeless.

It’s certainly got the potential, at least visually. But as long as it overcooks some horror elements and undercooks others, the only unsettling feeling it will establish in viewers is confusion.

Herrera, Davis, and Ruck are all good enough to make me want to see more, but there have been so many decades of demons since the original movie made heads spin, that the evil--or at least its special-effects-assisted manifestation--feels a little tired.

The amount of story that they try to fit in zaps the narrative of any momentum and strikes out any scene that doesn’t speak directly to an upcoming plot twist or sheer exposition.

What happens when people work within the source material, respects the franchise, takes their time and gives fans of the franchise what they want? The Exorcist (2016) is exactly what you get. This is how media, movies and TV shows should be done. The Exorcist is a continuation of the 1971 book. Now as an adult Angela finds that her family is facing the same demon that she herself batteled as a child. This TV series was amazing, it takes the classic source material, expands upon it and manages to wrap itself up nicely in a satisfying manner, while still leaving the doors open for possible more seasons in the future. We may not get a second season, but thankfully, we don't need one to make this an amazing and enjoyable outing.

A true inheritance to the original movie, this series offers everything a good horror show should have and leaves out everything it shouldn't. I just hope they renew it for a second season.

Just finished watching the season finale of "The Exorcist". I'll admit I'm a huge fan of the movie and therefore partially biased. For the most part, I really enjoyed this series. I seemed to always want to see the next episode. Sad that there were only 10. I think this show has tons of potential. It does need to get better in season 2 (if there is a season 2). I think it needs a little more suspense and possibly some surprise factors thrown in in order for me to rate this series higher. For now, it's a descent watch.... not a must watch. However, it has the potential to be a must watch in the future, if done right.

Adult, well made, well acted, elegant looking remake (based on the novel) which goes much further in scope than the classic film and unfortunately also the ludicrous. What do you want from a TV show with this title?
