A new wrinkle is revealed in each episode as the story falls deeper into a spiral of what is going on?! But it has to be compelling and make some kind of sense, and that’s where “Death and Other Details” excels.

While the premise of Death and Other Details may seem derivative, the series is much more than a simple imitation. It’s a keenly modern, thoughtful meditation on the simultaneously distortive and revelatory nature of the human memory.

"Death and Other Details" is a wonderful TV show. It mixes deep, thoughtful stuff about life and death with everyday moments in a way that's super engaging and easy to get into. It juggles different plot lines smoothly and keeps you hooked. The writing is good. Visually, the show is stunning, just love the vibe. Plus, the music and sound effects in the show are spot-on.

Mandy Patinkin plays the world's greatest detective, who's invited on a private cruise where he encounters his young protégé from a past crime (Violett Beane). Even though this isn't an Agatha Christie story, it has many of the elements: A lavish upscale setting, eccentric characters and murders that keep happening with typical twists and revelations. The settings are beautiful (some of it was shot on the Queen Mary). The cast is full of "characters" and they do a good job. Everything is in place for a classic murder mystery and it's sufficiently interesting. What's it's lacking is any real tension, which is degraded by continuous voiceover and constant flashbacks. As a result, fans of the genre will probably enjoy it, but, other than the style, there's not much to make it stand out.

While so many Agatha Christie-influenced murder-mysteries get bogged down in the macabre, Death And Other Details remembers that these stories should be a blast. Mandy Patinkin and his recruited assistant Imogene (Violett Bean) are utterly charming, and the show is a hoot, even if the crimes themselves aren't particularly engaging.

Through eight often interminable episodes made available for review, “Death” has occasional moments of intrigue. But there’s way too much time dedicated to buildup.

I’d have preferred five genuinely complex characters to two dozen attractive chess pieces, which is Death and Other Details in a nutshell. Maybe 75 percent homage and 25 percent revisionist, Death and Other Details consistently stands out for doing the most, but rarely stands out for doing the best.

Imagine a 10-hour version of “Knives Out” and you have some idea why “Death and Other Details” gets so frustrating, especially after the remarkably fun series premiere.

It has neither the cozy charm of Only Murders nor the ferocious wit of The White Lotus and Succession. Not even the wonderful Patinkin can justify the convoluted plot and 10-episode runtime.

After two episodes I'm done with this series. There are too many obnouxious characters that I really don't care for. The series is not a comedy, neighter a drama, possibly a mystery but very shallow. Mandy Patinkin does not belong in this show. It's painful to watch him being trashed by a rediculous script.

Couldn't even get through the first episode. The most this show has in common with a great mystery is the awful CGI it must've shared with the Death on the Nile remake. Add in some modern garbage (forced lesbian scenes, girl bosses, incompetent white dudes) and you have a broke budget show with no real reason to exist. It's no surprise this was cancelled after one season. Nothing to see here
