The cast is marvelous, the gritty, post-war set pieces are meticulously recreated and, even with all the warm-water enemas and splattered afterbirth, the story always has its eye on uplift and good cheer.

Watched every episode and read the books every single episode is emotional and I don’t want it to ever end.

Solid period drama, show follows a simaler formula each episode but overall is a happy and pleasent show with some decent characters and writing

A lot to work through there, but as ever it was all impeccably handled by Thomas and her cast. The downside of so much story is it can feel like a thread or character you might warm to gets short shrift. The upside is if you’re less enthused by a particular character or idea, another one is soon on its way.

The advice here is to forget the politics and enjoy the performances and the trip back in time.

Once again, PBS delivers the goods--and while it may be too harrowing at times to describe as a bundle of joy, the heart-tugging Call the Midwife is a delight to watch.

The first episode offers a somewhat overwhelming dose of midwifery, to the point that some viewers may wonder how Call the Midwife won't grow tiresome with repetitive birthing stories. The addition of Chummy to the cast in episode two and a broader role for the midwives--in episode three Jenny simply spends time with an elderly man--allows the series to avoid growing stale.

[Rosie] Jones's condition was also central to the plot of the returning Call the Midwife. As you would expect from a classy drama series, though, it took a rather more intelligent, humane approach than a bunch of moronic trolls.

I LOVE this program... all but using Miriam Margoyles as mother superior. She is overly dramatic and insensitive, not at all in keeping with the ladies of Nonatas house. Personally, she is such a beast of female representation, it is insulting to give her such a role, that represents womanhood and our unique gifts ... none of which this actor could possibly understand or emulate. She actally offends me as a woman... I see her on talk shows and she is so course and base that it disgusts me.

Good grief! I used to so look forward to watching "Call the Midwife." Why did it have to go and get all political? Every episode has a new issue. This is beyond informing or educating; it is very one-sided, sometimes uninformed and skewed. Has ruined the show for me and others I know.
