I have yet to see a show like this. Incredible in every aspect and exciting in every second. The season finale is one of the greatest episodes of all time.

By 1:20 p.m. the series's third season is already as tightly coiled, clever and suspenseful as the first two. [28 Oct 2003]

It sure looks like '24' executive producers Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran are ready to give America more anxiety-amped razzle dazzle with one of television's most original and compelling drama series. [28 Oct 2003]

This is now the problem with '24': The first season was a giddy novelty; the second season was a guaranteed tune-in to see if the producers could pull off the same trick twice. But now we know the rhythm of the series, and so its anything-can-happen energy has dissipated into a how-can-we-bring-back-fan-favorites waiting game.

In other words, same old '24,' for better in the initially intriguing plot and worse in the way much of the story seems to derive from other shows, including 'The West Wing' and the narcotics mini-series 'Kingpin.' [28 Oct 2003]

'24' continues to roar forward at a breakneck pace, and it does tantalize by dropping clues that keep viewers hooked ... But with the minutiae of love affairs gumming up the works, it's more difficult than ever for viewers -- and the show's characters -- to keep their eyes on the big picture threat that's supposed to drive the series. After three years away Jack Bauer is back at CTU, and when a corpse infected with a deadly virus is dropped off at the CDC, he must work to prevent the virus from being released on the public. Even during these early seasons 24 was hardly know for it’s realism, and plot lines such as Jack Bauer gets over a heroin addiction in a couple of hours, or the convoluted sting operation conceived by Bauer and Tony Almeida are pretty ludicrous. Despite this, 24 was a brilliant watch thanks to it’s ever twisting storyline and edge of your seat action, and I remember burning through three or episodes a night back when I picked up the DVD box set.

Nothing is as it seems in Day 3, which provides a torrent of wild twists and turns without ever sacrificing the high stakes action viewers have come to expect.

The third season is better yet from season two, thankfully for the adition of an more interesting villain than the other two seasons, and the situations of this season are really better.

Early seasons set a high bar, and this one did not disappoint -- for about 20 episodes. After a compelling set-up (albeit with the usual amount of characters set on fire by Mexicans at 9 pm and leading an assault upon criminal mercenary strongholds in LA at 5 am), the plot begins to spring more leaks than a Burundian submarine. Disappointing finish with multiple characters behaving in a way that beggars belief even by 24 rules.

I like the fact that bauer does crazy things like breaking a guy out of prison to find out where the chemical weapon is.
