Zombieland: Double Tap

Zombieland: Double Tap is a riot, and a lot of that is due to Zoey Deutch and her character, Madison. While it doesn’t quite achieve classic status in its own right, when it comes to sequels that do the original film justice, it is up there. It’s worth the wait, your time and your money.

For all the flying intestines and skulls that split open like past-due melons, Double Tap has another squishy organ at its center: a big, goofball heart.

Double Tap tries to emulate the exact feelings of its predecessor, but the stakes aren’t anywhere close to high enough to warrant any real touching moments.

Heroically, Double Tap’s new actors, rare though they are, save it from being completely brain-dead.

As sequels go, Double Tap delivers the goods, but exists in a realm that feels more like a second serving than a new taste treat. It still tastes good, but nothing ever replicates the joy of the first bite. Just ask a zombie.

The sequel is a string of callbacks and remember-this moments that ask an awful lot of something whose charms and cultural impact were modest at best — a feature-length effort at congratulating the audience for having shown up for the original film a decade ago.

Double Tap isn’t a worthwhile sequel, especially after a decade, but it’s certainly a number two.

Zombieland Double Tap: 10 years in the making was a success. Yes it was a huge success this was such a fun ride, the cast is all back and they are all better than ever. Of course the standout is Woody Harrelson he is amazing in this movie. It’s also weird seeing Emma Stone in a comedy movie when all I have seen her mostly in now a days are serious films it’s cool to seeing her do something different. The supporting cast are also great from the copies of the original cast, one of the best parts is when Columbus is having a argument with his copy about there rules. But I have to complement the special effects work the zombies look great and so does the gore they all look fantastic. But this is a huge spoiler if you haven’t seen this movie stop reading now. Ok ready, this movie has to have the best mid credit scenes Bill Murray cameos and kicks so much ass and is so amazing it shows off the beginning of the Zombieland virus. I usually never give a spoiler heads up but I need to for that because of how amazing it was and I can’t give this movie enough praise it turned a great performance with amazing action and comedy that will make you teary eyed.

Zombieland: Double Tap is still fun, but it's also less well-made than the first one. The characters are still the same, maybe a bit too much the same. I hoped they changed a little from the first one. The new characters are a mixed bag. While Nevada is a character who I think was needed and she organically fit into the story, I did not enjoy Madison. The story is stupid and I don't mean it as a bad thing, but the dialogues aren't always good. The look of this film is a lot more sterile and digital, which I expected this franchise to be, but surprisingly the first one looked great. The cinematography is mixed, because apart from one amazing shot, it doesn't offer anything. But that one shot is beyond incredible. The pacing is great, this movie is also far from boring. The visual effects are more CGI heavy, but those shots do look better, but that's what I expect from a 2019 movie. The cast is great and the acting performances are convincing enough. Zombieland: Double Tap is a fun sequel to a funnier and more well-crafted film.

It's a sequel to the original with quality that's almost identical. If you liked that one, you'll like this one. Mostly generic zombie movie with a couple cool scenes.

Comedy is subjective. The theater I was at was having a ball laughing at the jokes in this movie but they just didn't land for me or Lauren. 90% of this film is comedy, so it being outside of my sense of humor didn't leave much for me to like. Aside from the comedy though, there were no memorable action set pieces in my opinion. People went through walls a few times and there was one scene at the end that had a premise I liked, but the execution of all action in this film just felt pretty uninspired and that's something I remember differently about Zombieland 1. I also didn't feel the same comradery between the characters in this one. That might just be because I've come to dislike characters like 'Columbus' (played by Jesse Eisenberg), though. I don't think the sympathetic bumbling nerdy nice guy character type really works for me anymore. Emma Stone was the only character I didn't find myself willing off the screen whenever they had a line. The new characters being a stereotypical dumb blonde and a stoner didn't do much for me either. I went into this excited to see it and ready to like it. Lauren commented after that she was surprised at how excited I was to see it. That's probably because I remember really liking the first one. I'm going to revisit the first one soon (possibly today) because I feel very uneasy about how much I didn't like this one. One other note: a lot of scenes seemed quite blurry and one drone shot in particular seemed very low quality. The effects weren't anything to write home about either.
