10 Days in China is not made specifically for Wham! fans, although the gig footage showcases the band at their exuberant ‘Careless Whisper’ and ‘Freedom’-era peak. Where it really sings is in revealing the unexpected legacy of this legendary tour.

It’s a strange and riveting moment in pop and political history.

When the rushed conclusion arrives at 90 minutes, the feeling is one of crushing disappointment, minor betrayal and sadness. What do we want? More Wham! Where do we want it? In this film!

The film avoids the trap of fan service by not inflating the band’s importance but showing them as strangers in a strange land, just trying to connect.
