Uglies

It’s all about as familiar-feeling as it sounds, but it goes down easily thanks to McG’s skillful, fast-paced direction, the imaginatively lavish CGI-enhanced visuals, and King’s impressive performance.

To say that it’s a fourth-generation knock-off of myriad similar YA sagas that have come before it would be an understatement.

Uglies winds up being yet another uninspired, forgettable entry in the deluge of YA dystopian movies that make my passionate defense of the genre such an uphill climb.

With a weak script and choppy editing, "Uglies" struggles to bring its dystopian world to life, wasting the potential of its cast and source material.

What was once considered revolutionary or sharp commentary is now so passé and outdated that it makes the film feel like an ancient relic — a bad one.

Though it supposedly argues against human beings turned into synthetic quasi-droids, Uglies feels like just another throwaway product.

A textbook example of what happens when movies are treated like content, something to fill a quota, not to be thought about or enjoyed, so that Netflix can tell their subscribers technically they have a new exclusive movie this week, quality be damned. And in this case quality was indeed damned. It was damned straight to hell.

I am a big fan of the original book. After looking at the movie reviews, I didn't expect anything good from the adaptation. I'm glad I was wrong. For me, this is almost a perfect adaptation, in general, everything I remember from the book is here, the same characters, the plot, cool action scenes were a pleasant surprise, the casting of the two main characters is excellent. The fact that the actors are not ugly enough, I don't think is a minus. I am amazed at how people gloat here in their reviews and where such hatred for this film comes from. I hope they release a sequel based on the second and third books.

This movie is almost literally 20 years too late. If this had hit theatres after the book had been released, back in 2005, it could've been the start of a brilliant new IP. As it stands now, it's just an okay-ish adaption of a slightly-dated YA trilogy. Fans of the book will be mostly entertained, but also slightly annoyed at some of the ways it's not faithful to the book.

It was an easy watch, simple no bad, decent watch. I’d say I’d recommend it for sure to some, others not so much.

This movie has wasted its animation, cinematography, and plot with a bad execution. This movie can have viewers interested, but the lack of fulfillment, reliability, and character depth ultimately does not leave a positive review of this movie.

Good idea, poor implementation. Weak plot, bad CGI, stupid characters and no plot twists.
