If you’re going to explain your movie’s ending, it’s usually a good idea not to botch the explanation so badly that anyone who’s ever seen a variation on this plot is given license to shout at the screen.

Solid movie but lighter than expected on the tank combat and an unfitting ending imo.

In the film THE TIGER, five Wehrmacht soldiers are on their own in their tank on a secret mission on the Eastern Front in 1943. Dennis Gansel masterfully portrays the horrors of war, the now-commonplace confinement within the armored vehicle, and the constant, ever-present fear of death experienced by the five soldiers. Contrary to the perhaps somewhat misleading title, director Dennis Gansel focuses primarily on the characters themselves and their ambivalent attitude towards their mission. In that respect, it's a well-crafted film that culminates in a twist atypical for the genre. However, in my opinion, it lacks a critical examination of **** Germany's senseless war of aggression and its atrocities, preventing it from being understood as an anti-war film. Instead, as viewers, we follow a group of aggressors whose leader has made obedience to orders, regardless of their scope, the highest priority. Overall, it's more of a heroic tale than an anti-heroic or anti-war story. The somewhat mystical and interesting twist at the end unfortunately can't disguise that fact.

Frankly, it is dissappointing. Unrealistic combat scenes, unless you consider it justifiable by the last twist (which was badly executed). It also didn't feel like anti-war movie but more as an attempt of providing excuse for Wermacht

The original German name for this film is “The Tiger,” the nickname given the tank by designer Ferdinand Porsche. The story takes place on the Eastern Front of World War II, when a five-man crew is sent on a secret mission behind the front line. Naturally, the intensity of the tank’s close quarters creates plenty of tension, especially when they’re being bombarded. Their journey becomes more severe as they travel more deeply into enemy territory. The performances embody the fear that permeates a wartime excursion and director Dennis Gansel has added to the effect with some mildly effective sequences. There are a few scenes of brutal cruelty and some events challenge credibility, including the ending. Ultimately, fans of war stories might find it interesting, but it never culminates in an especially gripping tank trek.
