Mouse-Sized Heroes, Big-Sized Feelings The Rescuers is a strange, scruffy gem in the Disney catalog. It’s got two adorable mice, one kidnapped orphan, and a villain who looks like she smells like expired hairspray and poor decisions. Bernard and Miss Bianca are the perfect odd couple. He’s nervous, she’s fabulous, and together they take on swamp monsters, crocodiles, and a woman who really shouldn't be near children. The animation is rougher than most Disney films, but it suits the eerie Bayou vibe. It’s heartfelt, weird, and oddly moving. Somehow, a mouse in a trench coat made me emotional. 8/10. Equal parts charm, chaos, and rodent-based heroism.

A kidnapped orphan, an arrogant pawn shop owner, a band of friendly, inquisitive small animals and a fabled pirate's treasure come together in a nameless bog, somewhere off the Atlantic coast. General chaos ensues, with frequent breaks for soft musical interlude. As Disney features go, The Rescuers is kind of a drag. Sluggish in pace, dark and drained in appearance, spiritually down-tempo, it's a bit of a black sheep for the studio. I'm generally a fan of the expressive Don Bluth animation style, and his fingerprints are all over this one, but the budget seems unusually tight and the plot often dwells on long scenes of expository dialogue. Not the most visually-fertile subject matter, in other words; it put my kids to sleep. The animation team does its best to overcome these defects, flooding the background with quaint little details and going for broke in their rendition of the spastic, reckless villainess, Madame Medusa, but it's a struggle. One Bluth evidently despised, as he bristled under the experience and soon left Disney to form his own competing studio.

One of Disney's greatest, the Rescuers is a smart and engaging film that makes for a heartfelt story about the adventures of two mice.

I can't fault this movie at all, other than to say the video I have is a bit grainy. The film is undeniably charming, based on the books by Margery Sharp, which I haven't read. The animation was just wonderful, right from minute one. It was dark and fluid, and reminded me of the masterpieces of Don Bluth like American Tail and Secret of NIMH. It matched the music perfectly, and none of the characters were drawn stereotypically. I loved the fact they made the protagonists mice, which shows a lot of originality. I was laughing so much at the swamp animals scene, as it looked so ridiculous. Another funny scene was the one with the crocs playing the pipe organ, and then Medussa starts shooting the place down. The songs were outstanding, and beautifully sung by Shelby Flint. I've heard criticisms that the songs were lifeless and slow, but I strongly disagree. The song at the beginning "The Journey" was beautiful beyond words, as was "Someone's Waiting For You", the one with Penny crying on the boat deck. They were truly emotional and haunting, and often misunderstood by people. The characters were really funny and engaging, especially the two crocodiles, and Orville(especially when he cries "Mayday, Mayday!")Bernard was brilliantly voiced by Bob Newhart, likewise Bianca by beautiful Hungarian actress Eva Gabor. Penny was really sweet, but the scene-stealer was Geraldine Page as Madam Medussa, who was such a convincing villainess, very sinister yet absolutely hilarious. She reminds me of Ursula from the Little Mermaid. The script was both touching and funny, with the dialogue between Madame Medussa and Snoops sparkling like bubbles on top of a champagne glass and the story is compelling and beautifully told. All in all, I recommend this and the sequel (which isn't quite as good). 10/10.Bethany Cox

Bernardo y Bianca hacen un dúo muy bueno, su química es instantánea y se desenvuelven muy bien en sus acciones, la película en general es muy bella, emotiva y melancólica, pero Madame Medusa es una pésima villana, es ruin y malvada por razones muy simplonas.

Bernardo y Bianca es una película animada, que, para lo que ofrece, quiere ser eso y poco mas. La trama es bastante simple (aunque no comete fallos de guion ni nada), la animación es buena, y los personajes si bien les falta algo de desarrollo, dentro de todo son buenos y algunos son destacables como Bianca o Medusa por ejemplo. No aspira a mucho mas, pero es entretenida dentro de todo y tiene momentos graciosos.

Fun It’s most definitely what I call a “Moderate Disney”, But The Rescuers is still worth watching.

The only thing I have with The Rescuers is the animation because the animation still carrying on using recycled animation from The Jungle Book and Bambi. The setting from Devil's Bayou surely looks like a jungle. The story is questionable to say the least like all Bernard and Bianca had is rescue Penny the little girl from Madame Medusa and her crocs. The characters are kinda forgettable, I don't know it's just that I really love the disney characters that my friends and I know and loved but it's okay. However I still this movie is good for whatever reason, I just love for my friends from the old school.
