What The Gorge does supply is a novel science-fiction premise and some captivating bursts of suspense.

An unexpectedly romantic movie coming from the 'Sinister' and 'The Black Phone' director, but it’s also a gnarly monster flick with memorable beasties galore.

This movie is definitely going to my top movies list. It's unique, well-written, and beautifully rendered. The onscreen chemistry between the two actors made me believe that alchemy still exist. Both of them are really good. Their acting is spot on. Anna as Drasa looks like a badass anime character without even trying. Miles' character is right. She, without a shadow of doubt, collapses the night. I, too, found a woman with that kind of disarming personality. She also likes poetry and lives a thousand miles from me. **** this world. Anyways, I hope there's going to be a sequel. Calling Mr. Scott Derrickson.

I approached The Gorge with some apprehension, expecting a romantic tale set against a horror backdrop. However, watching it with my daughter, wife, and three older friends (both male and female), we were all thoroughly captivated. The film masterfully blends romance, a gripping storyline, robust character development, and intense action sequences. Unlike many movies that leave lingering questions, The Gorge provides a satisfying conclusion, addressing all plot points comprehensively. It's a cinematic experience that resonates with a diverse audience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. A solid 10 out of 10.

Action junkies, horror fiends, and romance enthusiasts have seen all of this done before and done better, sure. But it's a rare kind of gem that even attempts to pack all of these disparate elements into the same package. It's an even greater (dare I say pleasant) surprise that the last group will be the one walking away most satisfied by this, when all's said and done.

The Gorge is chaotic and fun, despite some narrative and design hiccups. It’s too bad it’s not heading for the big screen. This is the sort of thing you want to experience with a lively audience with the sound turned all the way up.

Plot is often the cruelest fate that could ever befall a cool premise, and so it goes with Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge, a high-concept genre exercise whose shallow depths are all too eager to come to the surface.

There are touches of above-average streaming craft here, distancing it from the standard Netflix equivalent – an indistinctive yet solid score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, some grand cinematography from Guillermo del Toro fave Dan Laustsen – but the film bears too much of that synthetic Apple feel, as if it was primarily made to show off the abilities of a new iPhone.

In the depths of the abyss below, The Gorge mostly turns into a high-concept action film that’s so dull, predictable and ugly to look at it’s extremely easy to tune out and have your mind go on autopilot while the otherwise charismatic Teller and Taylor-Jones are wasted.

Loved everything about it, the story, cast, music. Lots of chemistry between Levi and Drasa, had an ending that I could get behind. Have seen it twice.

The Gorge opens with an air of mystery, withholding key details in a way that effectively builds tension and intrigue. What begins as an ominous setup gradually reveals an unexpectedly tender love story at its core. While it doesn’t fully commit to the conventions of horror, the film sustains an unsettling atmosphere that lingers throughout. It’s a compelling blend of suspense and romance that’s worth watching.

The Gorge is an example of a movie in which the trailer is much more interesting than the movie. The Gorge collected a lot of hype during the release, Apple advertised it as much as possible. Before watching it, it seemed that it was an expensive, beautiful Sci-Fi action movie, and with some kind of plot twist. But first you watch a very long plot, almost a third of the movie. Logic comes out of the movie in the first 10 minutes. And when they finally explain to the viewer what's going on here, the viewer catches a cringe. Was that a plot twist? The Gorge is still one of the biggest disappointments of 2025. But it's worth giving credit that the trailer didn't cheat. There are really good action scenes here, and it's worth watching this movie for them.

What a wasted potential, and what a weird movie, not in a good way, from the very beginning, the whole concept and mission pulled me out way too early, and i was really hoping the two actors that i genuinely like, who i've already seen deliver great performances, finally met and do their things together would help carry the film, instead, i was genuinely shocked by how they have basically zero chemistry, it's still hard to believe that Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy have absolutely no spark together, it's just not there. At that point, i already knew the rest of the experience was going to be exhausting, and it was, made even worse by how painfully long and slow everything feels, the film is incredibly boring, the Sci-fi elements that happen down there actually had some potential, but because the main mission is so strange and uninteresting, combined with the complete lack of chemistry between the leads, nothing ever clicks, everything that should work ends up falling flat. The score is also distractingly weird, on top of that, the special and visual effects aren't particularly good either, it's frustrating how everything is the exact opposite of what should work, the way this story is told, and the way it's written, is honestly awful, they somehow manage to take two great actors delivers possibly their worst performances, all because of a stupid plot and bad characters development, The Gorge is truly a dread.

I made it to 33 minutes (that included some fast forwarding past predictable build up scenes). The premise is not a terrible one, however it would have been better as a Black Mirror much shorter story. Right when the cliche "mystery"notes stopped repeating "da da dee doo da..." and turned into Ana Taylor whatever her name is dancing on watch as a sniper to punk music because it was her "birthday and I'll do whatever the hell I want," I was done. Why do they insist on having scenes, like literally someone (whether male or female, but as is often the case, female characters) who are likely less than 90 lbs, doing things that only the largest of males can do? Examples include the extremely difficult task and arm strength needed to keep a sniper rifle steady (even on a tripod or bi-pod lying down), and even more absurd one scene where Ana is introduced to her male counterpart as he watches her through binoculars- using a big chainsaw to cut wood! This isn't a male / female bashing thing- if they showed a ten year old kid doing it, the entire audience would groan- and if you look at Ana's toothpick sized arms, while yes, very attractive, she just isn't going to be using that chainsaw to cut an entire tree's worth of firewood! Most men are not strong enough to be very honest- so stop trying to do the female boss girl thing- which back to my first point as to when I left- totally gets undercut because two snipers are told contact is * strictly forbidden. * Then Ana, the tiny female Russian sniper, decides "well f@ck it, my birthday is here!" and starts dancing to loud music, drinking, at night, when she is supposedly one of two highly trained snipers guarding the worst possible thing known to exist. If this was a black comedy, or an action-comedy i.e. Beverly Hills Cop- then I'm totally down with this kind of scene. Let's have everyone throw off their clothes while we're at it! But this isn't supposed to be a comedy! It is supposed to be a thriller/mystery/big-reveal-at-the-end drama, where obviously these two snipers, male and female, start up a romance through binoculars. No spoilers- remember I stopped 33 minutes in. It is just extremely obvious what is going to happen. I'm glad to see more of Ana since she was kind of out of the light for a while after Split, however this is just dumb and boring as the genre of movie it is supposed to be. Bottom Line: Don't waste your time.
