The surprise is that it's one of the most exciting and enjoyable disaster epics to come out of Hollywood in some time.

The Core is unabashed Hollywood spectacle, but with a cast of up-from-indie actors that makes the cataclysmic kitsch all the more fun to behold.

This was a great concept, and it was a great movie i enjoyed in my younger years and i still do, i wish they would make a remake. #MovieThirst

I have such an unreasonable affection for this movie, indeed, that it is only by slapping myself alongside the head and drinking black coffee that I can restrain myself from recommending it.

If The Core finally has to be classified as a mess, it is an enjoyable one if you're in a throwback mood. After all, a film that comes up with a rare metal called Unobtainium can't be dismissed out of hand.

The real obstacle here is a lack of filmmaking imagination.

Only Stanley Tucci seems aware of the drop-dead stupidity of the plot, and acts up a storm of high camp as the narcissistic scientist.

The cast of The Core deserve Oscar nominations just for being able to speak most of the lines without succumbing to the chortles.

The rhythmic hum of a predictable catastrophe: A 3.0-star voyage into stagnant spectacle.2012 (3.0)I watched "The Core" in 2012, and it remains a quintessential 3.0-star record in my archive—a film that manages to be entertaining without ever being truly "sensational." While the premise of drilling to the center of the Earth offers a certain high-tension curiosity, the execution often felt "stagnant," relying on pseudo-scientific tropes that failed to shatter the fourth wall of my disbelief. Compared to the "1.0-star traumas" of the same year, this 2003 disaster flick possessed a "chewy" B-movie charm that kept it from becoming an ordeal of "silent frustration." The characters were just "pathetic" enough to be likable, yet they lacked the "raw" complexity found in my 5.0-star masterpieces like "Save the Green Planet!." The 95% preservation of my memory suggests that while the visual effects and the rhythmic pacing of the mission were sufficient for a casual viewing, it lacked the visceral "revelation" or psychological depth needed to leave a permanent mark on my soul. It occupies a safe middle ground—not as hollow as a corporate blockbuster, but not nearly as "vivid" or daring as the cult classics I truly admire. It stands as a functional, nostalgic journey that provided a decent emotional payoff without ever reaching the heights of a "sensational" cinematic breakthrough.

An enjoyable and exciting action movie with silly science. Not quite "so bad it's good" but certainly a guilty pleasure. A good cast though they are largely wasted. As long as you don't get too worked up by the bad science you might find that you are enjoying yourself.
