The Con Is On takes off like a shot: a stylish caper with enjoyably wry, martini-soaked dialogue and a terrific comedic turn by Uma Thurman as a glamorous British scam artist. Then there's the film's second half — which sinks like a stone.

The comedy thriller The Con is On is a Who's Who of 1990s indie film character actors, but the movie ends up delivering a lot of cliches from that brief but extremely specific era of filmmaking, and not necessarily the ones you might want.

I feels like it could have been based on a 1990s book by James Hawes and like his books, they don't translate to film. The cast is totally wasted here and while the set up and premise is good, it just gets more tiresome and dull as it goes on.

As a huge fan of "Hustle" and "Leverage," I was very excited when I saw this film on one of my streaming services, even more so when I noticed who was starring in it. But my excitement quickly faded as bad jokes, overacting, and parodic substance abuse took the place of the wit and verve of cinematic con artistry. I lasted 17 minutes and wrote this review to help this awful film earn the low score it so richly deserves. My 1 point is for Uma Thurman's hair, more magnificent than ever.

The cast is strong but unfortunately the movie is quite awful. Intended black comedy falls completely flat, the characters are terribly unlikable and they're either hurling expletives or under the influence in nearly every scene. Save yourself the pain.

This movie is insultingly horrible. It seemed like they were making it up as they went along. It was sophomoric.
