The characters are well-defined and Rockwell holds the picture together as he conveys Mr. Wolf’s shifting emotional states: suave, vexed and morally conflicted. Kids will love The Bad Guys and there’s plenty of substance for adults as well.

One of the best animated films in recent years in a market full of cheaply written reboots and sequels, it's good to see an original idea in a movie with excellent plot twists and engaging characters. Sam Rockwell does a great job voicing Wolf and everyone else including Wolf else is well developed and poignant. The Bad Guys is a great movie.

The movie’s narrative twists are neither surprising nor interesting and the emotional weight of the story and characters is feather-light. It is, however, engaging in a disposable fashion, offering occasionally entertaining instances (such as the aforementioned Tarantino homage) and an animation style that seems less plastic than many of today’s generic offerings.

The Bad Guys will work better for kids than adults: the comedy is broad, with farting not just a major source of laughs but an entire plot device, and the characters aren’t quite as lovable as the movie thinks they are, despite a winning voice cast that also boasts Marc Maron, Zazie Beetz and Awkwafina.

had to watch that with the kids, the story is on par with what is expected for kids these days (very superficial) with an opened door to sequels, animation is to the current "standards", but there is this unhealthy dose of misandry which leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.
