An entertaining, well-made plea for tolerance told from the point of view of a 12-year-old.

A forgettable title and a barely there theatrical release don't do justice to the captivating and nostalgic coming-of-age dramedy That's What I Am.

This is a bit of a cheesy/cliched film but its quite watchable. Its entertaining and features some decent performances. Its not a brilliant film as such but its not awful either. I wouldn't especially recommend it as such but I wouldn't go out of your way to avoid it either - take that however you like.

A winning narration (read by Greg Kinnear) holds things together. And there's just enough script for a good cast to run with. Harris and Madigan lift the whole enterprise just by being who and what they are - great actors.

The writing hits the weeds on occasion, but Pavone evokes with feeling adolescence as a series of outlandish physical punishments and sweetly remembered firsts.

Benefits from sensitive, restrained thesping, most notably by Ed Harris, and leaves one feeling blandly inspired.

This well-intentioned tween-friendly message movie is earnest to a fault.

It's a dogged family entertainment determined to teach lessons about tolerance and how it should be extended to everyone, even redheads, gay people, and kids with cooties.

It is heavily suggested that the viewer should walk into this movie expecting it to bomb. While it is bad, I agree, it does still have a subtle charm to it. I also praise WWE for putting Randy Orton in this movie for only a few scenes because he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Speaking of the acting talent, my first reaction to seeing Ed Harris in this movie was: NOOOOOOO! But then I soon realized that without him, this movie would have been even worse. Although, I hope he did fire his agent for this stinker, he completely out-shines anyone from the movie. The acting from the kids are what you would expect, not so terrible. The moral of the story is one we've seen over and over again, and it's just another run-of-the-mill tolerance movies. As much as this movie is bad, it does have a strange charm to it. I would only recommend this to the extreme WWE fans who like to laugh at the movies. 6/10.

I will give it credit. That's What I Am is a huge step up in the right direction for distribution company WWE Films however the mixed story line and unclear ending leaves a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.
