Strange Magic

Strange Magic, an animated film from Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic, borrows its sensibility from another movie from the summer of 2001: "Moulin Rouge." The new film’s composer and music director, Marius De Vries, even arranged songs for Baz Luhrmann’s phantasmagorical musical.

While there are fun moments, the whole is an odd mix of grotesquerie and cutesiness.

If you close your eyes you’d think it was a commercial for a “Great Love Songs” DVD collection.

The look of the animation has limited charm. The story is primarily a string of life lessons for little ones, impossible to miss. And there is a great deal of singing. I don't think even fools will fall in love with Strange Magic.

A jaw-droppingly terrible animated musical that mismatches George Lucas’ inane story about a pair of fairy princesses to an oddball selection of the “Star Wars’’ creator’s favorite pop tunes.

A thoroughly derivative and unengaging fantasy.

Terrible character design, combined with a painful lack of laughs and a crushing plethora of ghastly songs, makes Strange Magic perhaps the worst animated feature ever to come out of Disney (which might explain why the studio is releasing the film under its now-rarely-used Touchstone label). Compared to other Lucas missteps of recent years, it’ll make you nostalgic for Jar Jar Binks.

All i can say is don't let yourself be fooled by the reviews. This movie isn't low production, or boring. This movie is insane. It's both predictable and entirely fresh. It's cringe and entirely genuine at the same time. It is funny and definitely animated with a lot of effort. You might love it or totally hate it, but in all cases you'll likely be overwhelmed by this wild, magical experience.

"Strange Magic" feels like George Lucas' attempt at recreating "Frozen" but it fails in nearly every aspect, though the songs are catchy and the animation is nice to look at, there's not much going on beneath the surface.

Strange Magic works as a harmless animated fest. But nothing else. Hollow story doesnt make up for the brilliant characters and okay voice acting. Give it a watch with your kids, for deep characters and great CGI, but everything else is hollow and boring.

Magia Estranha é um filme que tenta misturar conto de fadas, comédia e musical, mas não consegue acertar nenhum desses elementos. A história é desorganizada, os personagens não cativam e a trilha sonora só torna tudo mais bizarro. O visual impressiona, mas sozinho não carrega o **** a intenção era criar uma animação inovadora e encantadora, o resultado ficou bem longe disso. A sensação que fica é que Magia Estranha poderia ter sido um filme muito melhor se tivesse uma história mais bem desenvolvida e personagens mais envolventes. Mas, do jeito que está, é só um espetáculo visual sem alma.Nota: 3.4/10 – Fraco.

I see George Lucas tried, and as in tried, I really mean tried too hard, to make a fun movie.
