Bursting with color and rippling with samba rhythms, Rio makes you wonder why animated films haven't spent more time in Brazil.

A sequence set during Carnival is equally engaging, with giant floats and throngs of people watching the parade. Several scenes are shown from the birds' points of view, which make for a dizzying, dazzling experience.

Give Saldanha's film an A-plus for visuals and a B-minus for story.

The only thing surprising about this lackluster animated production is that it attracted an A-list voice cast.

Compared to Pixar's "Up," a much more organic and heartfelt story about making friends in far-flung places, Rio simply feels rote.

There's plenty of colour and vibrancy when it comes to the animation and music, shame none was in the screenplay for this average movie.

Rio is a brightly animated adventure through the lives of countless animals (mostly, gorgeous birds) throughout Brazil. You'll fall for the blue macaws and will be humming the tunes all night.

Enough with the rapping cute animals. Enough with the talking animal cartoons in general. They can be great, but it's too much. They're starting to turn into movies with these ghetto creatures, such as birds, who will always have a certain scene where they rap. Cheap laughs. Cheap. This movie was unoriginal, and I found myself almost, never laughing. Though I won't give it a 0, because I felt that it could have been so much more. It could have been original. It could have been so much better, but I think they tried to play it safe by getting these celebrities to do the voices of these birds to make this film enjoyable. I need a good story. This was bad.

Annoying, so obnoxious, nice dance sequences and it means well, but the writing **** so bad, and it just feels exhausting. It also gets irritating because of the constant autotune crap. The characters are bland, the visuals are nice, but its just too whacky.
