Police Story is one of the great 1980s action films. It’s also one of the most 1980s action films.

A brazen mix of head-through-the-glass violence and pie-in-the-face slapstick, with a dash of Capra-esque working-class comedy for good measure, Police Story is remarkably seamless in tone and execution.

Should be 100%. I swear to anyone, this is really worth it to watch, and it's the pinnacle of Hong Kong action films

The film that made Jackie Chan an international star, Police Story fully embodies the martial artist’s spirit of entertainment – equal parts endearing, goofy and packed with eye-popping kung fu action.

The likeable and graceful Chan directs, sings and performs jaw-dropping stunts. Few of his American or Austrian rivals attempt a fraction of that.

Like many of the most compelling martial-arts movies, the Police Story films more closely resembles a dance picture than any kind of action blockbuster, with meticulously choreographed fight sequences standing in for fan-baiting musical numbers.

Chan seems to do everything he can think of to ingratiate himself with viewers.

The fantastic action scenes featuring Chan in his pomp are slightly let down by comic overkill.

This is an awesome movie it has all the elements of a fast paced action film with elements of drama, mystery, comedy, and the choreography and timing is on point, along with the stunts which are incredible and I know the actors and stunt people had to have gotten hurt doing them, Jackie Chan went above and beyond to make this movie standout, and it does even today, this is among Jackie Chan's best movies, and a must watch for martial arts or action movie fans it's a classic for sure.

A 2 years old child was watching actions of this film, and did not allow me to watch any other films, that that starring Jackie Chan. Do we need a better review than this? The film was Directed by Jackie Chan himself as he was totally displeased with the previous movie "The Protector (1985)". It was a good decision by the martial arts legend and he was successful and followed by 7 films in this series. Very Interesting, Thrilling and Funny. A must watch for Jackie fans.

Amazingly entertaining and fun!it was action-packed insane ride, the stunts and fight were literally art the dedication of Jackie was amazing, the music was good, the acting was amazing, the story was simple but great, the decent police with high level skills and full of comedy seeing him was fun,the starting fight and chase scene was intense and awesome, the taking care of Selina and the prank was awesome although the fight at road was amazing, the birthday scene at house and May's small fight and all it was hilarious, although i think the women violence in movie was little extra, the Mafia thing and the police drama was engaging, the Court room Lawyer's conversations and all tricks against the police it was amazing although the tape scene was legendary and hilarious AF,the later reveal of corrupt officer and the false Murder get-away was brilliant and intense, the 4-5 Phones at a time scene and some unusual situations and comedy of JC in movie was amazingly fun and hilarious, the ending mall fight is literally pure authentic and awesome the fights were skeptical and great, the destruction of things in mall and all it was well captured, the stunts were literally Mind-blowing and awesome specially the pole scene it was ground-breaking but the repeating of same scene it felt little odd but the scene was **** cool-down moment with lawyer and Jackie loosing temper and hitting everyone before cut it was **** whole ending was insane and fun.Overall the movie is awesomely fast-paced,action-packed, hilarious and fun,it was entertaining and amazing Movie!

Plenty of great stunts from Jackie Chan, but in between it’s all a bit boring and the humour doesn’t really land.

Most prime-era Jackie Chan movies rightly file the story as a secondary concern, nothing more than a vehicle to shuttle us from one insane, prop-stuffed fighting arena to the next. That’s not really the case for Police Story, which dwells on the flat, watery plot beats, playing them for bad humor while audiences thirst for the fisticuffs. Chan plays a rookie cop who cuffs a fleeing drug lord and must then protect the villain’s personal secretary until she’s ready to testify at the ensuing trial. Wacky hijinx ensue, including a misunderstanding with the girlfriend, a comedy of errors in the courtroom and no less than five(!) instances of birthday cake to the face. Every last moment drowns in corny, overbearing music, although I don’t know if that’s such a bad thing considering the quality of acting, and after the big shanty town bust, a wildly destructive set piece that opens the film, the action is limited at best. That last factor is redeemed somewhat by the climactic fight scene in a shopping mall, where brawling gangsters are hurled through so many merchandise displays, I’m sure Hong Kong experienced a glass shortage in ensuing years. This extended slice of action is almost good enough to make the plot’s nonsense worthwhile, culminating in an epic stunt (a six-story pole slide through string lights and a gimmicked pagoda) that’s so flashy, it would find a home in every one of the star’s highlight reels from this point forward. True to form, that leap also nearly killed him: tight deadlines, a lack of rehearsals and a bad landing left Jackie with two damaged vertebrae and a dislocated pelvis. Charged with adrenaline, he still leapt straight to his feet and resumed pummeling the enemy at the bottom. It goes without saying that, if you’re watching a martial arts movie for the narrative, you’re probably doing it wrong. That there’s so much of it in Police Story, then, is a cardinal sin. Finite as they are, its fight scenes are great! Why won’t it quit goofing around and get on with them? In the future, I’ll skip the movie and just watch the mall fight on YouTube.
