Pizza Movie is a refreshing delight. The simply titled Hulu comedy knows who its audience is, and it delivers plenty of gross-out gags for them to laugh at. But it also takes its genre's formula and infuses it with a real shot of originality that gives even non-stoner-comedy fans plenty to sink their teeth into.

The Film Stage
As far as dumb comedies go, Pizza Movie is a masterclass in throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. It doesn’t always land, but when it does, it really does.

This is the greatest work of art since Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa, since Now you See my 2. This reminds me of when I use a magic kit with my friend Brick, we would eat pizza all day long. Clearly some websites have biased reviewers trying to tear this movie down, saying it is abysmal. They. Are. Wrong.

I am surprised, and slightly impressed. The best way to describe this to you is that its a Disney Channel level movie but they can use curse words, blood and crude humor. I'd honestly want to watch this again sometime, you can just tell that the writers/directors really understood what needed to be done, and really didn't give a f*ck if it made sense or not. They even call it out in their own movie, imposing a level of expectation. Now there is 2 reasons why Im giving this an 8/10. Number 1 - The length ofbthe film, while it makes full use ofbthe time allocation Iit could have been a tad longer, as it rushes a bit to the end. Number 2 - There are parts of this film that really do not make any sense, im not gonna be too hard on it but still it can't be ignored. That honestly is the risk/reward you are taking. Other than that everything else is great and I highly recommend this film.

It’s fast, witty, and packed with clever punchlines, though it still finds time for several scatological gags.

Pizza Movie is a charming throwback to the stoner comedies that inspired it, an ambitious college movie that knows how to take a simple idea and turn it into something broad, wild, and expansive. While the joke might start to get a bit thin near the end, Pizza Movie is a clever bit of fun, and we definitely need more broad comedies like this in the world.

Ultimately, Pizza Movie’s title not only reveals a major plot point but also captures the film’s overall energy and weight. It’s generally enjoyable while being consumed, but afterward, it may not feel like a fully satisfying or nourishing cinematic meal.

Pizza Movie is disposable, practically by design, but it may have happened upon a comic duo worth reteaming.

There is room for vulgarity, horror, absurdity, and a whole lot of heart in Pizza Movie, though just barely, like attempting to host a rager in a 12′ x 14′ dorm room. The resulting stoner comedy is awkward, weird, and doesn’t quite work, but it just might become a core memory for those among the couchlocked who have yet to experience a proper house party.

Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone play two loser college students who happen upon a mysterious substance that takes them on a drug adventure. Along the way they encounter several gross-out encounters and outrageous confrontations. The exploding head sequence is an instant comedy classic…smartly timed and hilarious. Sarah Sherman and Caleb Hearon add some fun characters with their cameos. Since there’s so much crazy happening, some of it lands while other crashes. Co-writer/directors Nick Kocher & Brian McElhaney have kept it crammed with all types of wacky stuff, plus some original elements that make this typical stoner comedy a dizzy, wacky trip.

I had a hard time focusing on this movie, but probably for a very unique reason: the actor with the dark hair and glasses looks uncannily like my ex hubby! But that’s actually a compliment because despite the ex’s long list of personality flaws, he was in all honesty a very beautiful man. He was very handsome. That’s what made the situation even worse! That being said, this flick was alright. I think if I was a couple years younger and enjoying some of the buzzes I use to have I would have appreciated this movie a little more.
