Look, when Mel Brooks is both a producer and star of your film, you know it’ll have some laughs.

Visually, the movie is surprisingly inventive, with takeoffs on everything from manga to Hokusai prints. Sure, a lot of the jokes are dumb — you got a problem with that? — but “Paws” is quite smart.

I thought it was entertaining, funny, and suitable for the whole family. It takes a lot of guts to remake a movie like Blazing Saddles and while it isn't perfect, it's just the right amount of humor and spirit. I don't know what mistakes were made regarding whether it had Chinese or Japanese tones, but it's an animated movie which shouldn't be taken too seriously. Just like its predecessor, it should be watched with an open mind. If you worry too much about things like that, perhaps a documentary is more fitting.

Despite its risqué origins, “Paws of Fury” manages to dish out lighthearted fun, swashbuckling action and surface-level messaging about following your dreams, though not every joke lands.

The screenplay, credited to the five original Blazing Saddles writers as well as Ed Stone and Nate Hopper, is relentlessly silly but only intermittently funny.

“Paws of Fury” is an efficient yet underimagined animated fable that barely musters the flavor of a cliché Western comedy.

Paramount’s limp, animated remake actually triggers new stereotypes in the service of trying to expose racism for a pre-teen audience. The studio seems to have reached for legitimacy by bringing the venerated Brooks along for the bumpy ride, darkening both legacies. What emerged sits uneasily at the corner of tribute, parody, theft and laziness.

Reckless cultural insensitivities aside, Stone and Hopper’s writing is simply not smart or funny. Poop and fart jokes comprise the core of their repertoire, and if you’re curious how reliant the film is on this material, Paramount is literally handing out whoopee cushions to promote the film.

I love this movie about Japan, although the movie confuses the Japanese and Chinese. LOL. I like the character " Jimbo". It apparently came from Yojimbo played by Toshiro Mifune, many years ago. Actually, the town Kakamucho looked like the town of Yojimbo. If you are interested in Japan, please watch it!

It was not as good as some other movies about kung fu or fighting in anime like Kung fu Panda maybe, but I did enjoy it for most of it. Felt a bit cheapish at times though and like something missing from the story, but I think it was overall ok.

Not quite as bad as some of the reviews might suggest but in this over saturated genre of cg animated family movies it leaves much to be desired. The jokes fell flat, the voice casting felt off and the screenplay was dull. Overall it felt like a cheap imitation of Kung Fu Panda with a significantly weaker writing staff. Still for 85 minutes of colourful entertainment you could do worse.

THIS MOVIE IS TRASH. All of the good parts were in trailer already. (And even those were cringe or cliche.) Many Japanese and Chinese cultural insensitivities and would do better as a Nickelodeon TV movie. Don't watch this movie if you hate wastes of time, money, and resources because this movie could be one of your BIGGEST TRIGGERS. You will save money. Overall grade an F-
