Overboard

Writers and directors Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg don't do anything particularly clever or inspired, but they display a knack for snappy dialogue and draw solid work from the cast. It's enjoyable watching Leonardo and Kate draw closer together, and the film's emotional moments strike the right notes.

Overboard lists and wanders through the shoals of secondhand comedy and eventually, just drifts away.

First-time directors Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg start off with a movie so dull it threatens to vanish from the viewer's memory before it's even finished. Things get better midway through, with the directors' screenplay finally playing to the talents of at least one of its stars, Derbez.

It all adds up to a bicultural comedy that is good-natured if not especially or consistently well-written. The movie takes too long to get moving, stays a tad too long, and efforts to retrofit the movie as a vehicle for Derbez come at the expense of Faris, a talented comedian who has very little to do here.

As movie-going experiences go, there is nothing worse than to sit through what purports to be a comedy and never have a reason to engage your laugh reflex. Exhibit A: The gender-switch remake of the 1987 screwball farce, "Overboard."

The whole endeavor is an exercise in trying to do too many things — rehash a nostalgic property, propel Mexican film star Eugenio Derbez to mainstream stardom, revive Anna Faris' film career — but it never actually manages to be a good movie.

All of the broad physical humor in the world can't distract from the fact that the film is an endorsement of psychological exploitation.

Really funny family movie. Much to laugh about and good feeling atmosphere.

This was a cute little romp. Yes, it'd have been more appropriate as a straight-to-video release, it doesn't really rate as a theatrical release, but it was fun, especially if you like Anna Faris's silliness. The w and I enjoy watching her on "Mom" so we're biased in her favor. And yes, the plot is totally predictable but it's not a big budget action thriller, it's a quaint rom-com, so you have to like it for what it is. We did.

Very generic movie. Anything with Ana Faris is never funny or all that great. But if you want to watch something 90ish and decent this would be it.

You can spend 15 minutes starting to watch this movie -then switch to the MUCH better original with Goldie Hawn and Curt Russell.... ... better yet - DON'T watch any of this version and just watch the original... You can thank me later

I rate this 3 Since the original 1987 version I give it a 6 which is good enough so this one maybe half as good as the old one for some reasons like the main one is that this was boring also you know what’s coming plus for that Spanish language I wasn't able to understand half of the movie so if you watched the original one just stick to it and don't watch this crap if you don't then also watch the 1987 version funnier and more enjoyable if you don't like watching classic old movies then don't watch either
