Nobody is more violent lark than probing satire, but between Bob Odenkirk’s smartly underplayed performance, the surprises in the screenplay by Derek Kolstad (the “John Wick” series) and the puckishly brutal direction of Ilya Naishuller (“Hardcore Henry”), it’s a wonderfully paced and consistently clever action movie that ups the ante of a genre that’s been dominated by Liam Neeson clones.

Taking itself much less seriously than the Taken series and its predecessors, it's a wish-fulfillment romp just as ludicrous as any of them but more fun than most.

In the Taken movies, the hilarity of mild-mannered Neeson going on a family vacation with hand grenades in his suitcase was never acknowledged, but it was there and part of the fun. Here, the comedy is closer to the surface, thanks to the wit of Kolstad’s screenplay and of Ilya Naishuller’s direction.

This stylish, superficial lark is perhaps too pleased with its central conceit, but director Ilya Naishuller keeps the mayhem and dark laughs rolling at a steady clip.

There is so much dead space between the death-defying set pieces that you can feel things grinding to a halt long before the next adrenaline spike hits.

It’s a shame: Odenkirk begins the movie with a rep as a smart and slippery performer, but by the end of Nobody, he could be anybody.

The film offers chaos by the yard with no real stakes or emotional reverberations.

"Nobody" feels loosely modeled after the John Wick formula, but without the identity or polish that makes that concept memorable. The short runtime makes the film feel thin rather than tight, with underdeveloped ideas and a plot that functions mechanically. The action is the strongest element, featuring solid choreography and satisfying weapon handling, but it is not remarkable enough to carry the film on its own. Bob Odenkirk delivers a serviceable performance, though he does not elevate the material, and most characters remain forgettable. Aside from a small highlight in Christopher Lloyd’s appearance, "Nobody" is a harmless but empty experience that leaves little to discuss once it ends, a film so forgettable it effectively becomes Nobody, the movie.

Nobody (2021) – DecentThe screenwriter behind John Wick also worked on this **** storyline is quite thin — it basically feels like if John Wick had a family and was living a quiet, simple life. Then one night, two thieves break into his house, and what happens next is the movie. It’s somewhat **** Odenkirk’s performance felt so natural — that’s what really connected me to the film. The action sequences were **** music was very good, and the cinematography was neat and clean.I’m definitely waiting for Nobody 2.

It's a new version of A History of Violence for no reason at all. There's hardly plot, character development, or reason for it to exist. Just nothing for nothing's sake. Stupid.

This movie isn’t that good. It’s performances are stale and every character we are supposed to care about is invincible taking away any stakes it could potentially have. I know it is intentionally supposed to be bad, (at least I hope it is) but it’s not good at being funny while it’s intentionally bad. A lot of the lines are just dumb and not in a funny way.
