There are a couple of not-quite holes exactly, but slightly threadbare patches. More importantly, the narrative isn’t really the point; this is first and foremost a tense portrait of a toxic relationship, and a brutally compelling one at that.

This is a wonderfully messy genre flick that takes pleasure in offering the kind of startling revelations mixed with sharp barbs that will make many clap deliriously while leaving some wanting more answers.

Magpie is a brilliant film that tells the story of a man trying to turn his wife’s confinement into motherhood to his advantage, only to reveal, through a stunning twist, that the opportunity he thought he had was all a lie. The film’s focus on the imbalance of responsibility in parenting was, for me, more than enough reason to watch. But the twist at the end of the film completely changes everything, leaving not only Ben but also the audience in shock. And, of course, the truth revealed at the end shifts the meaning of everything we’ve watched throughout the film.

You can predict where the story is going throughout the film but that doesn't make it any less entertaining to see it unfold, & the ending wrapping everything up nicely makes the movie that much better, worth the watch for thriller/drama lovers out there.

Magpie is an intelligent psychological thriller who does not require any shock effects and is still exciting. Even if the script has weaknesses at one point (when capers the identity of Alicia), the film is worth seeing. Daisy Ridley in particular delivers a very solid performance.

A bit of a drag to get through the opening part of the movie, but it slowly gets better. The performances help carry it, but the plot is too predictable for my liking.
