The Greatest Film of all Time King Kong 1933 A Global Phenomenon Universal Acclaim

I thought the movie was pretty good overall. I quite enjoyed the iconic film score done by Max Steiner. The acting was done well; my only critic is that I wish Ann screamed a tiny bit less

Первый голливудский блокбастер. Обезьяна мочит людей пачками, со скоростью 10 кадров в секунду, строя при этом забавные рожи. Фэй Рэй прекрасна в своём порванном платье, но от её постоянного ора и дурацкой музыки, пухнет голова. От скуки этот постоянный экшон не спасает.

I saw this at the cinema when I was 5 years old - it was scary! Nowadays it's still good, but pretty dated. Considering it's age though, well worth a watch to see how things used to be made!

Creí que iba a ser una película buena, pero hasta ahí, y me equivoqué, porque realmente sobresale. El despliegue para lograr las tomas, tanto en la ciudad como en la selva, no solo con uno, sino con varios animales enormes en pantalla, es, sin duda, para admirar. Además, aporta un montón al género y, posteriormente, muchas películas están claramente inspiradas en esta cinta. Por nombrar solo las que se me vienen a la mente: Jurassic Park, Rampage y el mismo Godzilla. De hecho, se pelea King Kong con un T-Rex, ¡solo faltaba que lanzara fuego! Y para terminar, creo que el mensaje más claro es con respecto a cómo el humano se siente el centro del universo y no piensa en ningún tipo de especie más. Eso trae consigo que tanto animales como personas "diferentes" las saquen de sus lugares de origen y los lleven a la ciudad como trofeo y luego ser cínicos al culpar a la persona o especie por no "adaptarse", quedando los culpables absueltos incluso de su nula conciencia moral.

While it may not have been the first, King Kong is undeniably the grandfather of monster movies. Shot in the pre-code days, its cavalier attitude and abundance of eye candy probably had just as much influence on the industry’s forthcoming, self-imposed laws of decency as it did on Godzilla, Gamera and their kin. Kong was a major event in the early ‘30s, a big box office hit in the midst of the Great Depression and an indelible pop culture monument. Its magnitude, no doubt, gave the Hollywood elite much to consider. Dozens of men are violently killed on-screen. A three-story ape curiously peels off a woman’s clothes and sniffs his fingers. Should we be showing this stuff to our kids? And so, subsequent re-releases were trimmed and cut. Repeatedly. One famously gruesome scene, in which a handful of men are devoured by spiders and insects, has never been restored. Not for lack of trying, let me tell you. It’s one of film’s most famous lost relics. Suffice to say, the uncensored, old school version of King Kong is a trip. Once the first act’s setup is out of the way, it’s all about the uncompromising spectacle, all the time. Some effects hold up astonishingly well in the modern light (especially practical set pieces like the fifty-foot gate) while others, particularly the creature effects, are clunky but well-intentioned relics. This flick goes hard, pushing and experimenting at every opportunity, but always with the intent of broadening the world and deepening the immersion. So the giant ape close-ups look toothy and silly. Maybe the stop-motion action scenes stutter and jump from time to time. These pioneering filmmakers were flying without a manual, inventing skills that wouldn’t be fine-tuned for decades. I find their dedication to trailblazing, in the name of richer cinema, admirable. If nothing else, it’s fun to watch. On multiple levels.

This looks amazing considering when it was made. Like even today I enjoy looking at this film. Even the sound was good for the time. It was a bit hissy and obviously has issues but overall the sound is fine. The pace of this movie is so much better than the Peter Jackson remake. It is so much less boring. In fact this version is not boring at all, it is genuinely a good and entertaining movie. Most importantly though, Kong did not go ice skating!

To this day, the original 1933 King Kong remains the greatest giant monster movie ever made. Its timeless story holds up wonderfully, and even if its then state-of-the-art special effects don't, it still manages to be a far more exciting action/ adventure film than any of Warner Bros. and Legendary's modern day attempts.

This must of been insane to see at the time. Still holds up pretty well. Kong's big dumb goofy face offers some great unintentional comedy moments.

Great movie! I really like the acting, the atmosphere, and every about it!

A beginning of a amazing franchise AND probably had the best effect back then.

This version of King Kong is a classic, it may be a monster movie but it has something that most of the other versions of the story don't have- heart. The story is basically a take on the timeless story of Beauty and the Beast but it is a powerful, beautiful, tragic and beguiling one. The cinematography is beautiful and crisp, and the scenery is convincing enough, plus the score is a gem. In terms of acting, Faye Wray is stunning as Ann Darrow and Robert Armstrong does well with a role that is admittedly on the corny side but hey I can live with that. But what made the film was King Kong himself, he is absolutely amazing to look at, he looks and acts very convincingly. Maybe scary to start with but as the film progresses (like the Beast in the fairytale Beauty and the Beast) you feel for him. The climax on top of the Empire State Building is one of cinema's greatest climaxes, and this is the only film version of King Kong where I had to stop the video to go and sort myself out from crying at the end. Overall, a beautiful timeless film. As said already, while essentially a monster movie, it is that with a lot of heart. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Ok, the dialogue is dated. The view of minorities is dated. However, when it came to the killing spree of Kong I could imagine how audiences were scared **** at those scenes. It works.

beauty killed the beast.. King Kong A new or 'out of the box' idea isn't everything, there are lots of inputs before the film hits the screen and this movie is the perfect example of it; it has a new concept, it offers enough range to the characters and the actors, its gripping and it unfolds in each level into something vivid and beautiful. King Kong is one of those rare masterpiece that it works even; literally, after a century too for the premise is something that is ahead of its time and even now too, it still is fresh; hats off to the writers. It brings out different creatures alive that one have only encountered in nightmares and it feeds enough gravity to even these creatures for it dread the characters and even the audience despite of being short on the vfx technology. King Kong isn't to the point, on the contrary it takes the long route which is filled with gripping and exhilarating sequences with a sense of enough emotion for all of it to glue this project together.
