Justin Bieber: Our World

One imagines his vast fan base will find this to be an immensely satisfying viewing experience.

While Beliebers may be titillated by the mundane behind-the-scenes goings-on of the pop brat’s pandemic-era concert on the roof of the Beverly Hilton, there’s little else to invite in new audiences. Still, as a piece of adoring fan service, “Our World” fulfills its function.

Those who aren’t fans of his music to begin with may respect the stagecraft of his producers more than the artist himself, or be turned off altogether by the clumsy hagiography. In other words, this is a for-the-fans endeavor—no one else will want to get near Bieber here, especially since he’s unmasked.

Alternating like clockwork between live numbers and soft insight dulls the film’s rhythm, diminishing the excitement it’s going for as it counts down the days to showtime.

The movie... keeps things surface-level when it comes to Bieber’s life and doesn’t give fans any new insight into the pop star that they haven’t been able to glean from his social media posts.

I'll admit it, I could barely make it through the trailer. And I get that I'm not its target demographic. Still, I have to say that this is the most vapid doc I can think of. This person isn't even real anymore, and that is a shame. Somewhere in there is a real person that has been beaten into a psychological corner whether they wanted that or not. Their entire life is artifice, and this mockumentary might as well be true for Justin. No amount of money would get most of us to give up who we are. I don't think he ever had a choice.
