How to Be a Latin Lover

Marino...is equally at home directing the broader physical comedy and sweeter bonding sequences between Maximo and Hugo, even as the overlong film's two distinct personalities never manage to coalesce into a self-contained whole.

The humor is both broad and lowbrow, yet often extremely funny.

The whole enterprise is so fundamentally good-natured and fluffy that it’s sometimes hard to stay annoyed by it.

Derbez brings warmth and intermittent goofy humor to this too-broad and uneven comedy.

The difference between this film and the majority of late-period Sandler flicks—besides the fact that nobody goes on vacation and that the dialogue is partly in Spanish—is that it’s pretty funny in spots.

How to Be a Latin Lover all too quickly devolves into a nearly two-hour slog showcasing Mexican comedy superstar Eugenio Derbez’s attempt to seduce U.S. audiences with a cheesy bilingual spoof of an ethnic stereotype long past its expiration date.

This movie is so funny! Watched it last night, took my family, and will do it again! Eugenio always knows how to do it. And his chemistry with Salma is amazing

The humor should have been main focus of this movie since it was a comedy. But it doesn't do amazingly well at that. The jokes are often hit or miss and Iv'e never had a laugh out loud moment in my watch through. So that tells you something. Some scenes are very funny, but overall it's just not enough. And most of the touchy scenes are very cliche and cheesy. So overall I would call this movie a painfully average movie.

How to be a Latin Lover is a movie that is humorless and stereotypes all Hispanics, which is terrible. I am part Hispanic, so when I saw this cheesy crap, I almost threw my soda at the screen no kidding. Don't watch this.

Eugenio Derbez plays as a lazy guy who's coasted thru life with the titular vocation. After he's booted from his prosperous relationship, he moves in with his sister (Salma Hayek) and struggles to make a living… or find a new woman. Toss in his cute 10-year-old nephew and you have all the elements of a sweet little comedy. Director Ken Marino is best known for his comic acting. Even though he's directed TV, this is his first feature and it shows. There's a lively comic energy thru the film, but the actual jokes are scarce. Many of the talented comic actors are just trying too hard and never manage to be funny. Even with the Latino flair, there's nothing especially unique or very amusing.
