With Carrey hitting a career peak, this Grinch doesn't steal Christmas; it restores the season by helping energize us enough to make it through the whole thing.

Carrey is excellent, making the most of his comic gifts even in a cumbersome Grinch outfit, and the eye-spinning color scheme is dazzling to behold.

2000 How the Grinch Stole Christmas when Jim Carrey was really good and one of my favorites I did not like the mayor of Whoville he was a bully and he was a annoying character to me I do not like him and every time I see him in that movie I just want him get a taste of karma for making The Grinch hate Christmas and taking his girl no wonder the Grinch hates Christmas and hates the Whos from Whoville except for one Cindy Lou Who who was trying to get the Grinch to change his mind and was not afraid to try to uncover the truth and try to speak up against the mayor

Leave it to Ron Howard to turn a plaintive Dr. Seuss ditty into a C-grade Tim Burton psychodrama.

The scenes involving just him (Carrey) are funny and full of life. All the other scenes are not.

I am not a mind-reader and cannot be sure, but I think a lot of children are going to look at this movie with perplexity and distaste. It's just not much fun.

The dullest, clunkiest, big-budget fantasy since Steven Spielberg flattened Peter Pan in "Hook."
20
Profoundly unnecessary -- cluttered, padded even at 90 minutes, indifferently narrated by Anthony Hopkins, and consistently misdirected by Ron Howard.

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is very weird sloppy and campy fantasy film that is elevated by Jim Carrey's performance and a very cute dog along side him but has a lot of unnecessary plot elements that aren't very interesting at all compared to its beloved source material. Seeing this in the theater for the 25th Anniversary was still a fun experience.

Fantasy comedy film made in 2000. Christmas celebrations have a bad character in the film enemies. This character Grinch's name and this character to play as best comic villains Jim Carrey gives life. But we can not see what's funny in this film because it mimics the furry creature. Although the Grinch movie funny in places, can be boring. Movies can be watched comfortably from the family.

To me this film is an ugly, moldy Christmas sweater that terrifies you every time you look at it.

This is total garbage, granted I like it as a kid, but as an adult this is ugly. They could have done it as a animated movie. There some things works better in animation than in live-action.
