Seriosly Metacritic, you might wanna go to Rotten Tomatoes because House on Haunted Hill is indeed one of the best horror remakes of all time. Hell, it even almost this close by getting a 100% Tomatometer score. How come this only has a 25 rating? .

TV Guide Magazine
For horror fans in a forgiving mood, it's an adequate fear fix.

Chicago Tribune
Contains too little of the original's campy spirit and too many whistles, bells, explosions and screams.

Los Angeles Times
Soon enough, it becomes clear how much this movie disrespects both the audience and the genre.
10
The New York Times
All the special effects in the world cannot compensate for an inability to generate tension, establish and sustain pace or create any character whose survival is worth rooting for.

I would rather feed Jesse Helms a rancid peanut butter sandwich, and then have him slowly lick my face off, than sit through House on Haunted Hill again.

Oh, wow. 1.1, seriosly? This is the most underrated movie on metacritics. It is really not that bad! Sure it won't give you nightmares, but it has some story and humor and worth at least 7 point in my opinion.

Despite it's silly premise, laughable CGI effects, over the top ending and the shaky acting and despite the fact that it's a remake of a beloved 1950's horror movie starring the great late Vincent Price, I still think it held it's own. It was quite entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Sure it was stupid and predictable, but the bloody kills more than make up for it.

The horrors of Haunted Hill might have worked for children, but sadly the true horror here is how ridiculous, rickety and perplexing the twist is, and despite the successful, seductive performance by Janssen, this gothic B-movie is a nauseating waste of time.

House on Haunted Hill is cheesy and not very scary. Is it the worst thing ever? no but it's not very good either.

Geoffrey Rush's employers must have as deep pockets as his character to allow him to appear in this brainless dross. Gore and stupidity take front seat here, while plot, characters and even good fun are absent.
