Get past the wince-inducing premise of Helicopter Mom...and you're still stuck with a forced comedy that mines uneasy humor from stale stereotypes.

It is impossible to overstate how grating Nia Vardalos is as the title character in Helicopter Mom. Throughout her career, her default setting has been something like "Jack Russell terrier after an amphetamine bender." No surprise that she's exhausting here.

I really enjoyed this movie. Not sure why so much negativity :-) just got out of high school and have been dealing with things like this for a long time plus moms are always annoying. I thought Jason Dolley was really cute. Also Kate Flannery from the office is super fun

What should have been a nice little comedy is overwhelmed by Nia Vardalos who doesn't come across as overly involved - she just seems psychotic. It's evident that the director simply lost control when Vardalos signed on. The tone is way off. Vardalos was clearly beyond taking any direction. The other actors are fine - and there is a nice relationship between the boy and his father. But Vandals is just unwatchable.
