I've not watched the anime or read the manga, so this was my first encounter with this franchise. As someone who isn't tied to the brand or has any previous knowledge of what's supposed to happens in the anime/manga, I can say that it's a pretty good introduction to the series. Sure like all anime adaption films it does feel rushed and could have done with an extra 20 minutes to flesh out some of the plot and character development. I'm also pretty sure they fell into the same pitfall other adaptions did and tried to convert a whole season of the anime into 2 hours. But overall it's good, you can easily follow the plot, the action is pretty good, the CGI is ok and the casting is spot on. The English dub is also handled well. I'm hoping this gets a follow up film or a tv series to adapt the next part of the story.
