Free Guy

The script by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn is hysterical, but director Shawn Levy must’ve sold his soul to the devil to secure this cast.

Intermittently witty, technically impressive, Free Guy sheds points in its second half, with pandering (Star Wars and Captain American references) and a series of numbing narrative loops, celebrating originality while practicing the opposite. And all of this with the usual alibi that none of this is meant to be serious.

Levy, holding his nerve, does cut through the chaos, delivering a fable that, if not exactly coherent, is nonetheless tinged with the very last virtue that you’d expect in a movie of this ilk. It has charm.

An enjoyable cast, including movie-stealing work from Jodie Comer, holds it all together, but one can still see just enough glitches in this matrix to wish it was better.

The result is overlong and rarely groundbreaking – there are hints of The Truman Show, Edge of Tomorrow and, visually, Inception – and suffers from some obnoxious filmmaking shorthand in its portrayal of other cultures late on.

Free Guy has moments of dizzying action and offers up some intriguing sci-fi speculation, but it is decidedly not a cool movie.

The target audience — people who waste their lives playing video games — might be amused by a movie about devices designed for the sole purpose of destroying everything in sight, but the serious audience the film industry wants to lure back to brick-and-mortar cinemas won’t find much substance here.

Una película simplemente perfecta, me encantó la historia , y la película nos da un mensaje que hay muchas injusticias en la industria de los videojuegos

la verdad que me parecio una pelicula que toca el tema de los videojuegos con la clasica premisa de hooo videojuego, son geniales, puedo hacer lo que quiera, son estupidos y es algo que se ve medio reflejado en el mismo concepto del videojuego dentro de la pelicula pero por otro lado hace referencia a algunas sagas de renombre como megaman, portal y half-life ademas de juegos como fortnite sinceramente creo que la pelicula esta dirigida a un publico mas juvenil por no decir entre 8-10 años, la trama por su parte me parece algo divertida nada seria tomando en cuenta que esta dirigida para este tipo de publico, los efectos son muy malos, nada que un niño valla a exigir mucho. en fin es una pelicula familiar dirigiada a menores, aun que hay algunos chistes suvidos de tono solo conte 2, sus hijos no lo van a notar :).

It's a fun movie but nothing all too special. Great movie to watch with friends or when you are feeling bored. A good chunk of the humor lands and the action is decent.

A film made for teens, not enjoyable for everyone at an age of 30 or above, thus the acting of the „free guy“ Ryan Reynolds was really good. Disney probably tried doing something like Ready Player One but the shoe was too big. While Ready Player One gained depth from a world behind a world (a dystopian Virtual Reality future) Free Guy kitschy idealizes AI to the maximum to build a near to trivial storyline. Here and there I had some fun watching it but overall it was a silly experience. Surely no surprise, it’s a „modern Disney“.

Well, movie is fine but meh, I preferred red notice with Dwayne Johnson lol. 3/10, could've been way better...
