There are brutal scenes with razor blades and other impromptu devices of erotic torment, but what makes the movie a trial to sit through isn't just the heroine's pain-freak tastes.

In short, this is a movie about bruised people bruising each other, and if Downloading Nancy had more of an openly pulpy sensibility, then the repugnant premise might’ve had some lasting impact.

To her credit, Bello makes a real commitment to this spiteful, self-absorbed character, though the credibility she generates through sheer force of will is no match for the gimmicky plot twist that arrives at the story’s midpoint and sends the movie spinning off into stupid-land.

On a moment to moment basis, however, picture continuously skirts very close to the ludicrous in its advanced-stage grimness and outre forms of torture foreplay.

Unpleasantly icy film based on a true story.

The Swedish video and commercial director seeks artistic adventure but winds up with pointless self-indulgence.

A nasty exploitation flick tarted up with art-house actors and psychobabble.

Those who struggle each day with dark, hidden pain will find this movie to be a sudden shock of heavenly light and mind bending hope. Jason Patrick has proved himself an actor of the highest. He bares and unleashes our daily pain, and our desperate grasping for truth, love and a life without cruelty. He tells our truth in every moment, in every act, in every reaction. The compassion he unveils is breath taking, redeeming, almost holy. He makes us look beautiful, dignified, promising, loving and most importantly lovable. Mr. Patrick is our generations finest actor.
