SummaryA new interpretation that takes the award-winning Broadway show into fresh and expansive cinematic realms, Chicago shifts adroitly from the reality of intrigue, rivalry and betrayal to spectacular fantasies of music and dance, offering tongue-in-cheek commentary on the cult of celebrity and the scandalous lengths to which people will go to attain... At times, Chicago has the feel of a revue, with the major characters taking turns at their own show-stopping numbers. If it's too much of a good thing, I say, bring it on.

Chicago, based on Bob Fosse's Broadway smash, kills.

"Crime is an art form"—a sticky, small-theater musical transformed into a cinematic masterpiece that feels like a live stage.241112 (5.0)Watching Chicago is like experiencing a buffet for the senses; I’ve watched it countless times since 2007. The film brilliantly blurs the lines between a gritty jail and a glamorous jazz club, using a creative "out-focusing" technique where the characters' inner psychologies are projected onto a dazzling stage. Every dark element—affairs, murders, and systemic corruption—is satirized through humorous songs and world-class performances by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, and Richard Gere. The "Cell Block Tango" remains a masterpiece of choreography with its symbolic red scarves, while "We Both Reached For The Gun" cleverly uses puppetry to mock the media's manipulation. From Roxie’s narcissistic mirror dance to the heartbreakingly metaphorical hanging scene depicted as a magic trick, the film maintains a breathless pace. The finale, "Nowadays," perfectly summarizes this era of sensationalism, ending with a literal and figurative bang. It is a stunning display of showmanship where every frame pulses with rhythm and theatrical thrill.

Far and away my favorite musical movie. It works as a story, the songs are perfect updated period-style pieces, the casting was brilliant -- like most musicals, it requires some suspension of disbelief, but this viewer is more than willing to do so in order to enter this fantasy-Chicago again and again.

Freshly transplanted from the stage, is a thrilling ode to the intertwined glories of sex, showmanship, and lying: what the film calls ''the old razzle-dazzle.''

The movie is a dazzling song and dance extravaganza, with just enough words to support the music and allow everyone to catch their breath between songs.

Chicago is that rare thing: a nutritious hard candy.

I realize that Fosse's dark sizzle might seem a bit dated today, but surely something halfway snazzy could have been devised for this movie. It's toothless.

Chicago is a failure, but that should not come as a surprise. Bob Fosse, who directed and choreographed the original 1975 Broadway production, was long baffled in making a film of the show and eventually gave up trying.

Never have I been so wowd at a movie production of such a beloved musical. Now I like musicals and musical movies. There have been some bad, mamma mia rent high school musical and a few others. Man I went into this movie so cold mr. freeze wouldn't have been able to survive in the arctic and this movie lifted me off of my feet. This movie however has no flaws and the director is brilliantly able create a bunch of fantastic flashy show stopping numbers while simultaneously pairing a duo of Oscar winning performances by the two main characters and a bunch of songs that will be stuck in your head from the begging to the moment you finish this movie makes this a perfect 10 in every way. Now i just need to see this on broadway

As far as I know, Chicago is the worst movie of the movies that have won Best Picture. It is completely overrated, more overrated than most bad best **** Frozen.

Chicago is the worst movie I have ever seen. Nothing was good about the movie. If I could I would give it 3 zeros. Disgraceful, Horrific, Disgusting, Stupid, and a total mess of a film. You couldn't pay me to watch this film. Worst movie of the year, worst movie of all time.
