Carry-On

Carry-On works because it keeps it simple, because of its no-fuss-no-muss approach and two actors who can really elevate compelling material. Sometimes that’s enough.

Dramatically satisfying with a plethora of engaging twists, 'Carry-On' sticks a firm landing with maximum turbulence.

Carry-On is a sharp, smallish thriller with some big and satisfying payoffs.

The film is not going for total plausibility, but it is grounded in the logic and physics of the real world. Carry-On is refreshingly old-fashioned in that way; it is more interested in actual human capacity than in what modern technology can fake.

A good cast and Collet-Serra’s energetic staging elevate the kind of straight-down-the-middle entertainment Hollywood has mostly, sadly stopped bankrolling. It’s not quite Die Hard, but close enough.

The set-up is grabby and effectively alarming, even if it lends itself to more nail-biting stress than actual suspense.

It’s occasionally diverting, sure, but so is killing time while you wait for your flight to board.

Fantastic movie overall. Really enjoyed it. Taron great performance. There was a few bits where you thought yeah right but it’s a movie! There to be enjoyed. Definitely recommend!

Carry-On is mixed, but mostly on the good side. The characters are basic, but they work. The dialogues would be decent if not for the overexplaining, fast exposition and the humour didn't work for me. The story is good. I could say it's predictable, but looking back at how I felt after a few deaths: I wasn't sure who would make it out alive. The ending is great. Also, I noticed some similarities with the Mission: Impossible franchise (Ethan being the protagonist's name, having a cop/CIA agent as an ally that doesn't know what side the hero's on). The directing is decent, there's enough tension, the cinematography is okay. The camera movement is great and immersive, but the lighting isn't. The editing is weird, but most of that is probably because of the blocking. The production design is reasonably boring. I love Lorne Balfe, but this score is forgettable except for a few scenes. The cast is pretty good with some fame and great fit, but not all performances are good. Carry-On is said to be an above average Netflix film, but it's only an average movie in my opinion.

Ich habe mir von diesem Film mehr erwartet und war nach dem Anschauen ziemlich enttäuscht. Ein guter Aspekt war, dass in diesem Film wirklich sehr gute Schauspieler mitgespielt haben. Aber abgesehen davon fand ich den Film insgesamt eher schlecht. Ich würde ihm 5,5 von 10 Punkten geben.

Soooo formulaic.There are some great chapters in this film that would shine in isolation like a 10 min YouTube clip. In its entirety, however, the plot seems like it was written in a hurry and without any second opinions. There are just too many examples of plot details that are logically one-in-a-million unlikely. The result is a movie that could have been—but is not— entertaining and satisfying.
