The World’s a Little Blurry is an honest depiction of what it’s like to be a teenage girl. What makes that successful portrayal even more moving is that this particular teenage girl’s life is so untypical to begin with. Although the film runs long, it’s hard to point out any scene that could be cut, because every moment adds to the collage that is Billie Eilish’s world.

The emotional rawness of that super-real encounter is typical of what viewers will find scattered across Cutler’s film, an 135-minute opus — complete with intermission! — that indulges Eilish fans without alienating casual passersby.

I’d call it a deftly sincere and canny portrait, one that works precisely because it takes the time to sweat the small stuff.

In spite of its roughly chronological timeline, The World’s A Little Blurry is formless, less a slickly crafted come-up story and more a long compilation of vignettes, many of which don’t linger long enough. It’s like scrolling through someone’s smartphone to get a sense of what their year was like: some of the discoveries are amazing, and the rest leaves questions behind.

Whether you’re a fan of her music or not — and for as many die-hard fans as there are, there’s plenty of dissenters — it’s fascinating to watch a singer come into her own, establishing her still-forming identity in a rapidly shifting industry. Hopefully, Cutler will stick around, watch the development and, see what more can emerge in the future.

140 minutes of “fly on the wall” filmmaking, mostly of Eilish performing, songwriting (or avoiding it, as her brother complains), doing photo shoots and radio interviews and peaking at Coachella is a bit much.

Here and elsewhere, you sense the film knows more than it’s prepared to share, which gives it the queasy sheen of a PR exercise.

Regardless of what opinion I may have about her music, the existence of this documentary is understandable. After all, as it tries so hard to demonstrate in its excessive 140 minutes, the story of Billie Eilish is one of inordinate success and an increase of frenzied fame. However, and I'm sorry, because there is a big but, that is why the documentary exhibits the weakness of its own theme and subject. What I mean by this? Quite simple: her story could be an excellent subject for a coming-of-age movie. A 16-old girl creating and producing music with her older brother in her bedroom and then becoming a superstar. Who wouldn't like that story? But being a real person who has only released one album, which while it has been enormously successful, that does not mean transcendental. The true test of Billie Eilish, and which by the way would've been a better documentary, is the challenge of her sophomore album, because that's where she will show whether she was just a momentary hit, or an artist who's here to stay.

So many fake, bot reviews giving 10's that it's mind blowing they haven't been removed yet. The movie was just "ok". The typical upbringing of the emo teen years that she hasn't let go of yet. She's nothing special and the movie sort of proves that. If she didn't have her 'unique" looks for the rap/hip-hop era that we are stuck in she would have been just another emo kid with no record label as she's not a good singer either.
